I know some one in the UK with a tank and to make it road worthy, he actually made new treads out of rubber and steel plated Oak. It is a hell of a lot cheaper than fully vulcanised rubber tracks. Steel on the inside to protect the wood from the steel components and rubber on the outside to protect it from the road. When the rubber wears thin he just glues new bits of rubber on.
Hey just curious, are you implying that deboss has an offroad channel I don't know about? Or a different channel altogether? Did a search for that but couldn't find anything.

This thing is so damn cool and I'm definitely subscribing to see what you do with it. It looks like it's an M40's chassis, which was built on an elongated and widened HVSS Sherman tank, with the idler wheels and sprockets at the front and rear being lowered as well. This was all to accommodate the heavy artillery gun it was supposed to carry and fire. Considering these things were open tops already, it seems pretty economical to just chop off what's there and stick a truck on it - if it was even finished at all. The war ended before more than a few hundred of these were produced, and production was stopped cold.
@@max16 300-400 isn't many, but the ones not scrapped still had to end up somewhere over the decades. The wider spacing between the bogeys suggests a longer hull. M40 is very unlikely, but one can hope for the cool factor if it doesn't look like a normal HVSS Sherman.

There's a lot you could do with this, if you wanted to. An unholy union with the chassis from Optimus Brine might even have enough gears to run the tracks. Three of my favorite TH-cam people are Deboss, Peg, and The Chieftain, and this is like a mashup of all three. You don't need to worry about the engine oil.
The radial would be a cool idea, but I feel like it would violently over heat. Would be sweet to see a 12v71 or 16v71 dropped in it and keep it somewhat true to its roots
@@Alliethebooklover maybe so. But it would have been modified for some kind of cooling system. If that engine is configured for a airplane. Then it's air cooled. So he would have to fashion some kind of blowers to cool it.
It was common - as somebody else has said - to use repurposed airplane engines into tanks. The Sherman and tank destroyers had radials with cooling fans. The British used a repurposed Merlin engine in their tanks (called the Meteor). The American tanks were not very popular with the troops during cold weather, it was like riding around in a walk in freezer. The British were smart enough to add in a small quiet engine to heat the tank and to run electrical systems without having to start the main engine. It also made hot water for tea, which made it much more popular with the British crews during the winter.

Rich, those small wheels aren't idlers, they're return rollers for the tracks, your idler wheels are in the back of the track assembly where you adjust track tension, and those four wheels per axle are road wheels, and HVSS stands for Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension. I'm sure Kevin probably told you all this already, and if so, disregard. Cheers. P.S. The Canadian made Shermans were called Grizzlies.
When radial engines was put into tanks, alot of other modifications was done for cooling, etc. Only reason they was used to begin with, was a shortage of powerful enough engines at low price. We bought the twin 671's and gearbox and donated it to the Museum. They will put it to good use. We can throw any engine in there. It only works with Detroits because one engine needs to spin backwards
So when designed the M4 series was intended to use a Continental radial engine, only a single bank 9-cyl iirc, however the only real size difference between the original radial and the double wasp is length, and with no turret basket in the way the radial should fit fine. One concern about the radial however is that they were only designed to run at a narrow rpm range where tanks need larger ranges, and so drivers had to always be aware not to over-rev the radials or they would end up chucking rods left right and center, and aside from height is one of the reasons they went to the twin detroits or the ford V8, or if height wasnt your concern the chrystler A57 multibank. Radials were also a bit of a crew nightmare because you always had to cycle them by hand to prevent hydro-locking on all the oil that sank its way to the bottom of the engine overnight

What it needs now is an awesome set of hubcaps.
Get it to run 50 mph so I can come up there and we can drive it to a drive through for dinner🤣. Totally badaaasss!
I wonder how that conversation went with the wife, all I can picture is Rich getting chased like Benny Hill by his frying pan wielding wife.
See my comment below...i want to call it divorced. Because I would be if i brought that home. Lol
I will tell you honey I bought a square body chevy don't got much rust was a good deal by love you
I was thinking that as he unloaded it lol.
I think Rich needs to change his Coffee, holy shit balls!!!
Thought holy shit balls was proposed name at first glance lol!
@@mikecrontchensary9770 never thought of that till now 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'd Call it the " IRON KNIGHT " or " APOCALYPSE " I don't think! I've seen Rich smile so much in my life. He's in heaven. LOL
You should get that guy's dual motor setup he said he had and put in twin 6BTs or something like that
We bought the twin 671's and gearbox and donated it to the Museum. They will put it to good use. We can throw any engine in there. It only works with Detroits because one engine needs to spin backwards
We're does one find such badassery? I'm gonna love this series
I've never played World of Tank but I want them to add this into it
Dude, same
would be so killer!
I'm waiting for Peg to see this and ask to haul it on a Kenworth lol
👌 minty
If he's got the twin engine gears you could put twin cummins 6bts in

It’s slow, rusty, and huge. I love everything about this. It’s amazing, and I want one.
Yeah if it wasn't numbers matching I would of walked away.
I dont remember the M43s having the cast transmission cover though, maybe the M40s did though?
@@TheKing1cobra That was good.
@@Dancing_Alone_wRentals ignore that, YT mobile had me reply to the wrong comment it seems...
@@TheKing1cobra It still sounded funny when you added your line to what he said in the video. Have a great weekend! I'm off to make more videos.
Bet you Rich Rebuilds will want one😂
The body is on backwards
The drive gears are on the rear end of a tank
So it will go faster in reverse

B.C. license plate. I wonder how it made it to Manitoba or Ontario? I’m not sure which province you’re located.
