From Wikipedia:
Reading (/ˈrɛdɪŋ/ RED-ing; Pennsylvania Dutch: Reddin) is a city in and the county seat of Berks County, Pennsylvania. With a population of 95,112 as of the 2020 census, it is the fourth-largest city in Pennsylvania after Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Allentown. Located in the southeastern part of the state, it is the principal city of the Greater Reading Area, home to 420,152 residents. The city is part of the Delaware Valley.
Reading is part of the Delaware Valley metropolitan statistical area, which also includes Philadelphia, Camden, and other urban areas. With a 2020 population of 6,228,601, the Delaware Valley is the seventh largest metropolitan region in the nation as of 2020.
Reading is situated roughly halfway between the state's most populous city, Philadelphia, and the state capital, Harrisburg. It lies along a major transportation route from Central to Eastern Pennsylvania, and lent its name to the now-defunct Reading Company (popularly the "Reading Railroad"), which transported anthracite coal from the Pennsylvania Coal Region to the eastern United States via the Port of Philadelphia. Reading Railroad is one of the four railroad properties in the classic United States version of the Monopoly board game. Reading was one of the first localities where outlet shopping became a tourist industry. It has been known as "The Pretzel City", because of numerous local pretzel bakeries; currently, Bachman, Dieffenbach, Tom Sturgis, and Unique Pretzel bakeries call the Reading area home. In recent years, the Reading area has become a destination for cyclists. With more than 125 miles of trails in five major preserves, it is an International Mountain Bicycling Association Ride Center.
According to 2010 U.S. Census data, Reading had the highest share of citizens living in poverty in the nation for cities with populations of more than 65,000. Reading's poverty rate fell over the next decade. Reading's poverty rate in the 2018 five-year American Community Survey showed that 35.4% of the city's residents were below the poverty line, or less "than the infamous 41.3% from 2011, when Reading was declared the poorest small city in the nation."
Reading is located 38.8 miles (62.4 km) southwest of Allentown and 62.9 miles (101.2 km) northwest of Philadelphia.
Nice drive, a larger city than I thought, quite a picturesque area.
An impressive drive through an unimpressive Reading, Pa. I haven't been to that town for many years.
Have you ever seen the famous PAGODA though? Also what about the famous VANITY FAIR OUTLET MALL which sadly is gone now? And what about the READING PUBLIC MUSEUM which has fine art and ancient artifacts?
@@trentpettit6336 yes I have been up in the pagoda and some of the clothing outlets. I've never been to the Reading Museum, yet.
The Reading Museum is an embarrassment. They haven't changed or added diddly-squat for the past 30 years of my life and will kick you out without a refund once one of their daily weddings start.
Old home town. Grew up there in the 50s and 60s. Brings back lots of memories. Very different from Seattle where I live now. Not much physical change. Big cultural change to a largely Latino city. You can tell from some of the corner stores. A little disappointed you didn’t drive up Mt. Penn on Duryea Drive, named after Charles who tested some of the first internal combustion cars in the US there, to the Pagoda. But otherwise a trip down memory lane.
Wow thanks for the footage. My grandmother was born there and I wanted to check how it was the city where she grew up. Yet I must say during the video I felt some very bad vibes in that place... seems like it had its golden days and now its just another crack hole in the Easten Side of the country. Thanks anyway for the good drive. Cheers.
“Very bad vibes” you just hate Spanish people lol
Thank you for posting. I recognized all of your drive. I walked most all of your route at various times, some of it frequently, if not daily, growing up in Reading. Like many other have posted, I grew up in Reading, but have long since moved away 3 plus decades ago. I feel lucky to have gotten a decent enough education in the Reading School District to get on to college and get an education that got me out of there. As kids, we didn't know it at the time, but Reading was well on its way into decline, but my God, how it has really become bad these days. The few that I'm still in touch with, family (who are still alive) and friends have all moved away from the city of Reading. The scenes show so many properties in decay and needing work, much more they they're worth, is sad. I don't understand how it is folks don't try a little by cleaning up the trash and pulling weeds that are gowning up through the sidewalks and around their properties, even if they rent. If I had one wish for Reading, it would be for some industry to come back. Something substantial that would provide jobs. But its just a wish. 😞
I was born and raised in Reading but moved away 25 years ago. Its interesting to see how it changed. I can still smell Berks Hot Dogs!
I used to work in the hot dog room there!
I was born there too. I get back there 2-3 times a year.
Awesome drive through Downtown Reading PA
Watched it all! Thanks for sharing!
Gracias por el Tour, Dios por delante ahí viviré en unos meses.
didnt hear any shots fired. lucky you
Nice pictures, some good equipment you using it looks even better than real life, although then potholes are no joke pa doesn’t care for its roads
Believe me, it's not this pretty when you can look to the side. This person avoided all the most dangerous areas of town.
I lived in Reading over 45 yrs.ago on Lancaster Ave, my cousin owned Dixie Take Out Food, the best chicken and jo jo potatoes in Reading, Pa❤
Monopoly card: Take a ride on the Reading Railroad
Resident: If it gets me off these roads, I’m up for it 😂
Occasionally I will see a show at the Santander Arena but that's the only reason I go into town. If there's something I need and it's in the city I either don't really need it or I'll find it somewhere else.
You don't realize how unique a city this is until you leave it.
Nice toilet!
The Reading Railroad is now called Reading & Northern.
Looks, like a quite nice town
It's not. It's a shithole. Used to be a nice place.
It's not!
Nope!! Looks are deceiving my dear!! 😉
I live here, and it’s not really _that bad._
I wouldn’t recommend living downtown though 😅
@@ahort My parents live in a nice section of Reading out in Exeter....in a very nice home with a little bit of land....it's beautiful there!! As for me, I'm by 10th and Oley.... definitely a big difference lol
I was born in reading like 9 years but not all tuesdays and thursdays stay in in reading since i moved to tamaqua in the first day of setember
Honestly pa 12 and us 222 needs expansions towards Allentown with 4 lane express way but the state rather build circles then fix traffic issues
Theres a lot of mennonites in the area so they either eminent the farms and piss them off or demolish quite a few towns built around current 222. I think Maxatawny is the worst offender.
They also just built the Jaindl highway like 2 decades ago. Its a stroad rather than limited access and considering how much the area around it is now building up its basically impossible to regrade.
@@LrdZanny yah its hard to say but i would say they could do a dig a fill method similar to how NYC subways where built but with roads to then have a deck for farm land over the road way.
I think something like that would be a compromise for the locals. Im still drawing up plans for it
@@MetroHam I’d agree, but the cost and time it would take for such project just isn’t worth it. There’s not enough people to warrant such a project.
@@kingcarlos4348 well pa 12 is just traffic hell towards price town I only suggest connecting it up to a future 222 expressway to make like a loop but in reality it just needs a 4 lane towards price town mainly for the work traffic out that way. tho mainly 222 needs it more
Gotta go now busy ❤❤
Larger than I thought too. Cool older buildings. Far, far worse places that you could be living in.
Nice ride in Reading PA
Reading is incredibly depressing.
how 🤡
Every time I ride along to help my friend DoorDash in Reading is like entering the DMZ in Call of Duty.
Hey guys thinking to move to PA 🌧️from Inland CA🌄 any cool ideas ✌️
I have been there I wonder who else has been there 😁😏
I live in Berks county and want to leave!
Left there years ago and what a relief. You will feel the same after leaving.
I have never seen your channel before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Nice drive but for people that are unfamiliar with the area they might be interested in the Goggle Works or the Theater near it or the convention center where they bring in anything from rock music/Theresa Caputo/Cirque du Soleil/to sports. Plus the Hilton Double Tree, etc. So I now assume this is not a travel channel but a drive channel?
What county 😳 in Pennsylvania is Reading?
It called Taco Town USA
Berks
@@brucesmith9144 Berks Taco Town
@@JarrodLampwhy is it called that?
@@pressureflipin1992 If you love loud trashy Spanish music, ATV dirt bike that try to run you down, junkies that ask you for money. Reading is Taco town USA next to NYC.
home sickness is wishing you could turn left off the 422 exit ramp onto 222 business.
I live here and it’s bummy lol
I have been there years ago I made a video about it ❤❤
Ug that ride !!
They dove next to me house
Donde está la gente?
Probably hiding out. Certain parts of that city are like a combat zone 😂
Dead city
Taylor Swift's birthplace
Kinda she grew up In a suburb like 15 min outside reading
FOH she wasn’t born here and doesn’t come here. She was born in this county. Trust me. WE DON’T claim her.
She might have been born in West Reading, but lived in Wyomissing before moving.
Reading is a crap hole
The Reading Phils do claim Taylor. She credits them with launching her singing career. Sang national anthem, and they sponsored first public performance. Mural wall at the stadium celebrates this. She visited to be a bridesmaid at friends’ wedding in 2015. Actually lived in Cumru Township when really young. Song “Christmas Tree Farm” is about that. And then moved to Wyomissing until she got her family to move her down to Nashville at 14 to pursue her career. My niece was actually in the Brownies with her.
