I vividly remember the time I fought Takane without any lives remaining. I think I was on "Reimu-mode", which is just my instincts kicking into overdrive. I also had Raiko's card which made things a little easier. It was pretty terrifying.
It's kinda interesting that the final boss of this game is a stage 2 boss from the previous game. It's also really funny that she didn't even want to fight at all but Marisa basically bullied her into having to defend herself.

I still remember when I finished Touhou 18 and it felt like it'd been weirdly inconsequential, like nothing bad would've happened at all if the protagonists hadn't gotten involved (it has probably my favorite gimmick in Touhou though, to the point that I feel like the series as a whole will be better off if Zun just keeps the ability card mechanics for future games).
Fun fact, back when the game first released, non-Japanese-speaking players were kinda stuck and had no idea what to do after Chimata. This is all simply because they were blocked by the language barrier and couldn't actually read the dialogue... That sure was funny... You know what, I give in this time, yeah the Junko card just works for End of Market and Nitori, since they are _actually balanced around having your starting set._ Anyway, hell yeah, we're messing around with some fun cards. Irresistible Feathered Fan is the ultimate card for money scoring in this game. I also like the challenge it provides. Though, if I'm not mistaken, it also affects enemy HP. Going in the tutorial stage with no cards other than this one makes the enemies literally unkillable with how they pass by. Capitalist's Dilemma is also hilarious. On very rare occasions, a card can actually go into the negative prices, meaning you actually get Bullet Money alongside that card. 100th Black Market just made me go on a beeline to getting Doremy's card whenever possible. (And again, as I repeat, I kinda just 100%ed this game in like 8 hours after getting it.) Kinda sad to see Life Explosion Elixir go unused though. I got not much to say on final thoughts, I kinda said everything on the 1st Market video. entered takane with 423/69 we were this close to greatness

On the plus side, that gives me more time to finish the game myself. It released right when I had final exams, after which I went on a big vacation so I had barely any time to play. But I will be back home in four weeks.
I definitely feel like BPoHC had some abilities that could work well in HBM. Jun's umbrellas, cursed enemies that can't attack, sanra's crosshair shots. Or things like tenkai's lasers that swap orientation when focused. So yeah, so close to greatness, I do think there could exist a 100th black market that is actively great, even if it isn't this one.
It also comes to mind that BPoHC has a number of mechanics which aren't bullet hell genre standard (flash bombs, movement based route selection, barriers, and damage) which upgrades affect. I think this helps the upgrades and skills feel varied.
Next up is UDoALG (is that right? The acronym is so convoluted that I keep forgetting) It... it's a try, I'll give it that Phantasmagoria games make a return, and it is... something I'll leave my thoughts on the full game for later, but for now... that first episode will definitely be one of the easiest to complete, and the rest (particularly Nazrin) will be... bad
It is better than PoDD and certainly has much more friendly controls than PoFV i'd say. Honestly pattern wise i wasn't expecting anything grandiose considering neither touhou 03 or 09 shined on bullet pattern, as they quickly turn into hell on earth thanks to randomized patterns. Oh yea, nazrin is pure pain sadly
in terms of acronyms it's a bit strange that they went for calling it "Unfinished Dream" instead of just calling it another Phantasmagoria game like we already have Phantasmagoria of Dimensional Dream and Phantasmagoria of Flower View Phantasmagoria of All Living Ghost would help it fit in more (and have the slightly shorter acronym of PoALG)
I am 99% sure that the purpose of Joon's card is to maximise earnings, given that Shion's card minimizes difficulty but with the payoff of you getting basically no money because of that.

Having more footage of it on TH-cam that isnt just the Youmu and Koishi show would be nice! (Unless Koishi hijacks the game again and forces her team to be played lol)

Holy shit the overdrive 6th market is nuts, a bad combination and you're dealing with something no better than some mainline lunatic patterns. something about Takane getting Black Market Keidoscope despite that pattern very much looking like one stolen straight from Tenkyuu is odd, but I guess it's nice to have some symmetry to the Michigan Roll spell that Tenkyuu actually uses. On that note, since Jo'on's card makes the stages go overdrive, I'm surprised there isn't a pair of cards where one makes the boss easier (for those that can't beat certain bosses) and another that makes them berserk. I can see some spells being hard to balance, but it would be the final finishing touch to the game and it'd let ZUN get away with actually not using Easy mode patterns. Given bosses *are* the ones you aim to beat with the arsenal of cards you built up throughout the waves, giving them easy patterns and simply making them bulky (and hell aren't they bulky, Legitimate Bullet Market took forever with just the laser and default shot in the video) can very much feel like a cop out at times.
Was curious if Takane's card was the third card in the combo of cards that started with Utsuho's and Junko's cards, but I think that might have been intended to be Suika's card, actually. IDK.
I think the points you made for accessibility are valid, but I also feel the danmaku in this game is largely uninspired and not very fun to watch even compared to the other sceneoffs

Yeah, if you just googled Michigan Roll normally, I think you'd just get food. A Michigan Roll is an old slang term for disguising a roll of money that's mostly all small denominations, or counterfeit bills, by wrapping it with a few genuine bills around the outside. So say, having a roll of money that's mostly counterfeit 20s, but having a few genuine 20s on the outside so the whole thing looks legit from a first glance.
Stage sections were definetely the best part due to the variety of patterns. Despite me liking the idea of a rogue like touhou game....yea the bosses are a joke. Like not even reused spells (looking at you chimata and tenshi...) some bosses are missing stuffs, like sakuya and youmu not having their special gimmicks or clownpiece's spell bg being buggy as shit.
I agree the game's difficulty curve is all over the place, but I don't really agree that the bosses were a victory lap. Differences in skill level of me vs you I guess, but to me I thought it varied a lot based on the cards I got and the boss I rolled. I also felt like the stages were even more all over the place, both within the stage pool and stage vs stage. To an extent that's the nature of this type of game but I feel a better balance could be possible. That said I was fine with the final 3 bosses basically being jokes. It's fitting for what's ultimately a goofy joke plot.
The card design and sales pitch were designed by Megumu and Tsukasa, but what ultimately makes the cards properly function is Chimata's magic inbued into the magatama that makes up the card. It's been mentioned that if you just took the card from someone's hand or otherwise obtain it without "buying" it first, then the card loses its effect and essentially becomes useless, so there has to be divine intervention involved
While I know it's not exactly part of the same series, I'm essentially treating that as part of the "CAVE series" on my poll. I have DonPachi on the poll currently. If that wins, I'll replace it with DoDonPachi, then ESP Ra.De., etc. Basically, I'll be working through all of CAVE's library chronologically, with Mushihimesama being one of them.
Man, compared to the previous market, the final lineup on the thumbnail looks far less threatening. I mean, we went from a fighting game final boss and THREE EXTRA BOSSES to...one final boss (from the same game as one of the Extra Bosses of the previous market), a Stage 3 boss and a Stage 2 boss.
