Absolutely the GREATEST Datsun 510 video - EVER!! You're obviously "out motored" by the six cylinder cars - but you handed them all a BIG plate of "GIT SUM" by using the 510's brake pedal, steering wheel and driving like a 510 SHOULD be driven!! The bellow of the WEBER's, the whine of the mid-close gearbox .... I can even remember what that smells like, dood! Love this! I hope you have many, many more races to let the rest of see what the BACK END of the 510 looks like!
Well if you are asking if I feel a gust occasionally move the car from time to time, the answer is, "of course". Normally the right turn down to the apex of 9 require a little more concentration then normal when its really blowing. As far as through turn two, I think it helps the mid and exiting understeer and can allow more RPM to be carried through the turn.
Nikko, I would however I don’t think it's fair to the engine builder. He makes his living doing this and I would hate to hurt him by taking food off his table. I will tell you that we sparred little expense when it came to quality. We race with other great cars that are faster and one thing we definitely get here is reliability. This motor has been abused and just keep ticking. PM me if you want the builder info.
Thank you. I believe most 510's run a similar setup for the track. DP Products for front and rear with Koni shocks. The steering is stock/original box but with the beefier front tie rods.
Thank you for your reply. Seems the steering looks rock solid. Mine reacts bit sloppy so good to know that it can be done with the original steering box :)
I believe its a combination of making sure the box gears are not worn as well as the after market gear box bracket which stiffens the box and keeps it responsive. R
Not a whole lot. Bigger Cam of course , 48 Webers, Ross Pistons, I'll have to look for the valve/spring brand, however very high quality everything other than stock block and head (not aluminum). Every component balanced. At the time of that race that motor was on its 20th+ race and still in car today.
This is my favorite video on the entire interwebs.
You sir, have excellent taste in videos!
@paulnorwalk The trans is a Quaife 5 spd. The motor is an L18 with about 6 years of R&D into it.
Awesome video mate. Excellent bit of driving. Datto 1600 one of all time faves
love the exitement at 8:37 great driving

What engine? Stroked L18? Anyway, nice vid!
Car was built my Mickey Cohen Motorsports in Orange County. This is the slower 510.
A lean mean machine with a killer driver! =D
+Dak Leonardo His helmet is already too tight, with the bigger head from your comment, this will make it impossible to put on :-)
Hahaha XD
Sooooo insanely sick! (it's too bad bricks aren't aerodynamic!)
Good race!!!
The 510 (at least in stock form) has an inline 4, whereas the z has an inline 6.
Hey Ross, whats been done to your 510? seems to have quite a bit of motor.

Sweet, seems it runs very well.
