- L'abbaye Des Morts is a modern indie game for the Sega Genesis / MegaDrive which launched in 2017.
This game is interesting because it lets you switch between 7 different versions in one console: Mega Drive, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad PCW, Gameboy and CGA.

Yeah, I love Locomalito stuff :) So awesome! Never reviewed this one, but already covered Maldita Castilla EX (aka Cursed Castilla) and Super Hydorah.

LOVED the game, and honestly i never even played Maldita Castilla, and i KNEW the same people who made L'Abbaye Des Morts made it! Thats just how their designs stick together so well. I think both games are great, now though.
I really enjoy the game, but I do feel it's very niche even by modern mega drive standards.
I got this game like you via emailing them years ago. The boxart is ok. You should've seen the Megacat studios version. That boxart is a joke :-) and completely misses the story of the game.
Haha I just checked the box art, it's the main character holding the chalice! It SO completely misses the point.

In this case, I'm guessing it was a call back to that era of gaming. As to why it was so common in euro games back then... I have no idea lol

Man, that's a pretty nice collector's edition. The wax was a nice touch. Really the whole package looks really good, especially for a indie game. I have no idea how you were able to pronounce this game's name lol.
I actually really like the graphics and the ability to choose between different versions of graphical modes but the fact it changes up the gameplay itself is really cool imo. Anyway, great review. The CD-I version of this will be the definitive edition.
Haha. Everyone knows the CD-I will be an FMV game starring Hulk Hogan.
I don't know if the game is still available from the place you got it, but being that Mega Cat is selling their own cartridges of this, I am honestly considering getting this because it looked neat from the other videos that you mentioned this in. But after seeing the time duration for TH-cam longplays when I went to sample it to get an idea of how to play it, I'm worried I will get bored with it quickly seeing as it can be beaten in under 12 minutes.
I love some of Locomalito's other games. Hydorah for instance is a fantastic shmup. Would be great to see that game ported to the Genesis or SNES! Good review too, and the fact that they give you all the different styles on one cart is impressive. Although the game itself doesn't really appeal to me. Which reminds me...

I have actually never played a Locomalito game before. I'll have to check out their other stuff.
As for Xenocrisis, I sadly haven't gotten the game yet. The devs told me they'll be sending me the game, but until then I can't do much lol

If this game was trying to replicate a ZX Spectrum game, shouldn't it have asked you to input a code upon booting up?

The edition itself is nice and all but... I’m finding a weird pattern here between fugly boxart and amateurish mistakes such as misspelling and other small errors. 😆 As for the game, not really my cup of tea.

The md version is solid but my personal love is the c64 one and imho it beats all the other ports.

4:32 quite impressive the very first word of copy has a typo. "Scaping from Crusaders..." E-Scaping, should that be?
Yep! The developers aren't native English speakers so I think that typo got past them
@@st1kaNever mind. I used to do publishing design so I can spot typos like nobody's business. You mentioned it one second after I made my comment as I paused the video, d'oh.

I've often wondered if some of the old-school gamers in Europe learned english just to be able to play more games. Did that happen St1ka?
I did learn some with King's Quest on the Apple II and more. Had to learn it at school anyway :)
Yep! I'd say Dune and Legend of Kyrandia 2 were the games that taught me English

Fun fact: I've found out you can escape the crusaders at the beginning of the game. On the first screen, walk right then crouch next to the first upper platform that you normally jump over.

OK then, here goes:
The war had been raging for years and thousands of people had died. In came St1ka, the new top diplomat of the United Nations, who was tasked to bring peace. At a top secret meeting of the two presidents of the opposing sides, he opened with: "I am not a big fan of you killing each other." The presidents agreed and the war was over.
