    Thanks for posting this video, I did my alternator this weekend. The only thing I would suggest to your viewers, is if you are doing this replacement on the ground with jacks, don't lower the sway bar until your ready for the alternator to come out. Hang the new alt then bolt up the sway bar. That thing really gets in the way when you are on the ground. Thanks again.

    Nice job again Brian. This is your second GX470 alternator replacement vid. The only difference I noticed is that in the first one you didn't take off the last skid plate. You unplugged the alternator connectors from the side of the car. Always good to have another option. I replaced mine a few months ago thanks to you first video. If I had to do it again I could probably get it done in about an hour and a half.

    Excellent! Good work and thank you. Just as a side note you can access the alt power and plug from the wheel well. No need to drop the pan. Might save a few minutes.

    First, this video was a massive help for me. Thank you very much! One tip I'd like to add though, for people struggling with removing the PS pulley(like me). The service manual suggests removing the whole pulley assembly, 2 14mm bolts and a 14mm nut, all accessible through the access holes in the pulley. Once you do that, the whole assembly slides forward and gives you enough space to slide the alternator off without having to remove the pulley at all! I hope this helps somebody.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick glad the video helped. I think there’s two different style pumps and when you do it the way you mentioned it the other you takeoff the pulley.

    Thank you so much, followed this every step. The hardest part was either the top alternator bolt or the nut on the pulley, just so hard to break loose with so little room for leverage!

    The PS pulley tip was awesome, saved me some headache. Also, put some penetrant on that 12mm nut, mine was stripped out and required heat to remove too. Heading to the store to get a replacement so it doesn't slow me down next time.

    Thanks a ton! Mine went out while driving. Fortunately I was a few blocks from an auto parts store and found this video on my phone. Watched it and banged it out on the side of the road in about two hours. Probably could have shaved a ton of time off if I actually was able to jack it off the ground a bit!

    I found it much easier to remove the power steering pump pulley nut from above inside the engine bay after removing the air intake hose. Also, keep the alternator wires connected until it’s completely removed.

    Excellent video. Working on an 05' took about 90 minutes to get it out. Now I sit waiting for the Amazon driver to drop off the replacement. If I order toilet paper it gets here at 7am. Parts they get here at 9:59 PM.
    FYI the power steering nut is standard threads not reverse

  • @traviscampbell7455
    @traviscampbell7455 ปีที่แล้ว

    Verry good info but for those of you trying this, be careful with wedging the pulley because it can get wedged wrong and bend the pulley. The center pulley nut is quite often very tight and the force required can bend the pulley. The service manual suggests taking the pump loose from the bracket and sliding forward. The power steering pump bolts can be accessed through the front of pulley.
