    I absolutely love your 'number one songs per decade' videos for different countries, and this one is no exception! So many fantastic songs went to number one, including Europe's 'Superstitious' which I just re-discovered through your video. 😉

    WOW! LOVE your videos. This is really fascinating! Sweden, regarded by many as the home of pop music (think: Max Martin, Abba, Ace of Base etc.). And yet, no number 1 for Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Prince, George Michael (as a solo artist). Only one number 1 each for Madonna and Whitney. I also thought Sweden might have liked Bon Jovi? A big "thank you" from London UK

    • @PennyAfNorberg
      @PennyAfNorberg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But the 80ies was more of less between Abba and ace of base, you had roxette however then.

      Of course Sweden liked Bon Jovi lol
      This is for number one singles, not hits in Sweden in general that got in the top 40 lol
      I'm from the UK as well, in Kent.
      So very confused by your comment lol

    0:43 Swedish entry to the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest.
    0:50 Irish entry to, and winner of, the 1980 Eurovision.
    2:13 Sounds veeery similar to the 1983 Yugoslav entry to the Eurovision ("Julie"/"Džuli", performed by Danijel Popović). 😊😂
    2:19 German entry to, and winner of, the 1982 Eurovision, and Germany's first victory since their debut in 1956. In this excerpt, Nicole is singing the Dutch version, though.
    6:10 One of the entries to the 1986 Melodifestivalen*. Although the song "only" finished 3rd, it remains a classic to this day.
    _*annual televised Swedish competition in which Sweden's entry to the Eurovision is selected._
    8:18 Her surname is correctly spelt _Salomonsen._ 😊

    I love your videos, would have thought Sweden had some better taste though, too many 8/10/7 weeks on number 1 for very mediocre or even BAD songs... I think their number 2 songs are a way more interesting and good. Good to see ALL of Alphaville songs made it to number 1 though!

    I love these videos. Some long runners at the Swedish summit isn't there? I actually like 'Vill ha dig". Cheeky little pop song. Glad they appreciate Kim Wilde's 'Cambodia' there. Aside from solo Agnetha no ABBA Number ones. They were like Gods almost here in the UK. 'Dover-Calais' is cheesy as hell, but not bad. That came third in the Swedish heats for Eurovision. Shame 'Karleken ar evig' wasn't a big hit the runner-up or 'Dansa I Neon'. They love Sam Fox over there. To be fair those songs of hers are pretty good - even if she isn't the best singer. 'Oh Mama' - the Madonna song that never was in my eyes. Very catchy pop and fresh for it's time. Interesting towards the end, they became more local. 'Buffalo Stance' is a classic. I love 'Licence to Kill or Kilt' rather. A good list. Very few stinkers on there. 👍

      Roxette had 8 really big hit singles in Sweden but no No1 but couple of No2 though 😁

    • @stefanzantes8818
      @stefanzantes8818 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, The Winner Takes it All wenn to #2!
      But the singles market was not so important for ABBA in Sweden because each new ABBA Album broke sales records from the previous Album, the peopke directly bought the Albums anyway...

    Why were the Swedes singing about Dover and Calais in 1986?

    • @wasen_aeon
      @wasen_aeon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If I recall right. The group Style (who was a big pop group back then) had that year decided to compete in the Swedish Melodifestival (The Swedish selection for Eurovision) and the fact is that they had no song and needed a name for a song before the deadline. Tommy Ekman (one of the band members) saw in the papers about a new tunnel being built between Dover and Calais and just threw it out there. Then he of course had to write a song with that name :P The end result was a 3rd place in the competetition in a year with many memorable songs of that year :)

    Yeah, that's exactly what your fanbase wanted! 80's Swedish charts: unprecedent average staying atop, 6 - 8 weeks by one song was nothing special.....No Abba (really? "Super Trouper" "The Winner Takes It All" stormed UK charts), but you can count on samples by Edelweiss 8:53......No Roxette ( big shock!) but you will find young Per at 1:18. And Housemartins 7:01 alongside Pretenders 0:37, well deserved no.1 spots!
