When this was released on VHS originally I remember going to a mates house to see his copy we watched it over and over again to try and understand how to play the songs on our guitars, it was an amazing time in my younger life and whenever I see U2’s early footage it gives me goosebumps, I can’t believe this song came out 37 years ago..
It would surprise me if it had came out last year! Best songs are from 70’s, 80’. I hate when new generations assume old people were naive or less advanced than now.
Same! This is the song. Still remember the moment. I was 16. Sitting on my parent’s bed watching Countdown (Aussie thing) and being instantly in love with U2. Electrified.
These kids were really giant at that time and they didn't have a clue what they were building. Epic times . Just a couple of kids. Instruments and music. Magnificent
I was in my young adulthood when a Christian band from Ireland wrote a song about MLK Jr. Out it went, all over the world. A deathless paean to nonviolent resistance to tyranny. We need to listen. We need to listen!
I danced in that room. I was very emotional at the time. My friends and family were puzzled at the time. I told them about this & the significance of the song, the band, that place and time... I sent a link to this video to those who were... quizzical about my emotional state that day. I don't know if I was able to satisfy their curiosity about my behaviour that day, but this is the best response I could provide.
I am one of your biggest fans and what I have to tell you is that I owe you immense respect for you and your career. All my encouragement continues Bono😀😃😄😁😆❤❤
1983. Christmas. I was 15 years old and was given a new boom box along with several hand made cassettes courtesy of my sisters boyfriend. Two of which were War and The Unforgettable Fire. My musical journey had just begun.
Let's hear it for (1) each band member's hard work in pursuit of excellence; (2) their commitment to work together til they got the sounds just right and then play these masterpieces over and over and over . . . and (3) audiences along the way who encouraged and rewarded the band so they kept it up and (4) the videographers and archivists and sound engineers etc. who created these recordings that we enjoy today on U2! That task could not have been easy all these years, working with evolving technology. All is MUCH APPRECIATED BY MILLIONS OF PEOPLE!
The Unforgettable Fire will always be my favorite U2 album. If I were dying, I’d play this on my way out. I have this on VHS somewhere in my basement. I’ve always been fascinated by how music is made. I play piano, but I couldn’t compose if my life depended on it. 😂💚
I remember being a kid in the 80’s and hear my father brag about the new stereo Hi Fi he was going to buy. I didn’t understand what a stereo dolby sorround was until he brought it home and my older brother played this. Still pulls my hairs up today!
the song of my youth, perhaps one of many, but definitely one of the best that the 80s had to offer growing up then!! such a magical time and U2 you fucking rock eternal!! I hope in 1,000, 2,000, 3,000+ years from now that future humans will find these songs such as these and send out a beacon of hope ...because HERE, in the now of 2023, most everything sucks..not just music...but people too...we've lost ourselves along the way, to selfish politics, and money, and materialism and shit like that.. if fucking Tekashi69 is a role model for kids these days, then I'm jumping off the goddamned planet soon as it stops spinning!! To be 12 in 1984, was just a fucking awesome time, U2 were/are definitive role models!!.. then and now and forever!! what the fuck happened to empathy, and humility, and compassion, and...LOVE...one word, one message.. and pride in that message of love.. whether it's MLK Jr., JFK, Gandhi, ..whoever ANYONE who stands up to hate and pushes against it, only to be shot down by murderous thugs!! all for nothing but certainly not!!! signed... high school days of 1984, somewhere, in some town, in some classroom, in some headphones on a boy and a girl, and who the fuck ever rocks it in the name of Love, and fuck all the haters!! Bono and the good ol boys of Ireland dearly, our hearts and minds will always sing praises.. for one thing...LOVE.. it's not even about U2.. or Bono... these gents aren't stupid enough to push a cult of personality... this song was and is forevermore ...GENIUS!!! SIMPLY BRILLIANT and shall never be another song so poignant and generational such as this!!
I remember the first time I listened to this song, I was in the workshop of an older friend who worked and bought a stereo with headphones, I had not yet tried a stereo with headphones I was eleven or eleven years old, so I put the headphones play and wax this beautiful song, for me it was like a vision I was fine while I was listening and I continued to listen to it to feel that emotion, my friend lent me the stereo and until the batteries ran out I continued to listen, today after more than thirty years I still feel that emotion when I listen to this song.
This was a convergence of talents similar to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". PF was an amazing band but when they got together with Alan Parsons it resulted in a classic that still resonates. With U2 it was the inclusion of Eno and Lanois that transformed this band into the stratosphere.
Something I really like about this video is that it presents the 6 members of U2 almost as equal. God bless Brian and Dani for their contributions. Without them U2 would not be the same.
When I was introduced to this band in 2007 by co-workers at the store I was working on, my life changed completely, thank you Luciano and Sussy. I was freed from the bondage of religiosity.
"Free at last, they took your life, they could not take your pride"...(MLK),The first single from TUF,A Killer track!😍 love this recording at Slane Castle.. ♥️♥️🎵🎶🎙🥁🔝
Song for Martin Luther King💓 If you can t fly then run If you can t run then walk if you can t walk that crawel but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.MLK U2 Amazinggg U2
For sure some of these clips are not from the actual tracks. Guitar isn't even plugged in sometimes. Vocals don't match the video. Only one mic on the drums. Change of clothes and time of day. It's a stretch to call this live. Kind of sad. It would be nice if they had filmed a real session of them all playing this song together at this location.
I can't imagine why anyone would "dislike" this? It is such a powerful song, and I love the raw footage of their musical process in such a gorgeous space as Slane Castle! A shout out to Canadian producer Daniel Lanois! Such an amazing time in popular music!
Love U2 sooooo much we named our SON JOSHUA AFTER THE JOSHUA TREE!... LOVE, LOVE THE WHOLE ALBUM , I believe most of their music can be loved AT any age & ANY GENERATION!... ciao Bella!.. Bono!🤌🏼😂❣️
I'm 54 and I still love that sound after all these years.
Good
You spoke my heart out. (I'm 54 too.)
I'm 45, and discovered this song from the rattle and hum live version, and blew my mind completely being 13
Im 30 and really fpr obvious reasons only listen to old music.. there are a lot of great artist today but nothing like yesteryear..
Me too
Bono hits those high notes so satisfyingly
GOLD!!!

✌
Hear ya. Likewise but drums :-)
I hear ya. And for me, sometimes it seems like yesterday and other times it seems like a lifetime ago.
And they still play it live at every show. At least every one I’ve been to. 9 times.
And sadly 37 years later, the only 3 music genres I'm familiar with are … Shit, Crap, Bollox
Great songs are timeless. This is one of the greatest songs of all time.
Like, I just remembered what it's like to be sixteen again :-)
Bono's vocal is brilliant!
Maybe the best he's done.
This is the song that made me a super-fan of U2. It's hard to believe this came out 36 years ago.
Same here! It's absolutely the best and the most powerful song ever! And I was born the same year this song came out, I'm so glad!
It would surprise me if it had came out last year! Best songs are from 70’s, 80’. I hate when new generations assume old people were naive or less advanced than now.

Pena que demorei ganhar uma fita pra passar a amar😅

From The Movie Soundtrack All That & Roundhouse (1992).
Being 53 of age, this is still astonishing good energy. Thanks U2, for helping me through the hardest periods in my life.
My first cassette❤
U2❤
Mr eno working his magic
This version is super cool, I remember watching the documentary when I bought the U2 Go Home DVD.
I saw it too.
@funko freddie & co I had no idea about this, glad we have it on the dvd
Me too.
@funko freddie & co it’s The U2 Blue Room
Amazing 😍
one man betrayed with a kiss-This song is about Jesus.
bro maybe as well about M.L.King... shut rings out in the Memphis sky
@@rapanui641, correct on that per the band.
This will never gets old. U2 definitely were beyond their time. Edge is such a talented guitarist.
let's not forget Larry Mullen, the amazing drummer and founder of U2! th-cam.com/video/3isbbRnbxW0/w-d-xo.html
U2 are stale bread and Levene got ripped off
Brian Eno is a hell of producer. Their combination can’t be beat.
And Danny!
I was in my young adulthood when a Christian band from Ireland wrote a song about MLK Jr. Out it went, all over the world. A deathless paean to nonviolent resistance to tyranny. We need to listen. We need to listen!
Back when Bono had no glasses and a mullet and the Edge had hair and no cap
Yeah, the good old days
Oh, is THAT why Edge always wears that damn beanie??
@@coraggio93 yup
When 8 hours gets you 14000 views, years after the song was released, you *know* you've made _great music_
I love u2❤
They took your life … they could not take your pride

Brian Eno♥︎

Playin' in the castle in '84 y'all 😄😄😄
Ty. That looks way earlier than 2001.
Ahh fresh comments, thanks you all. The last 2 video's had the same comments in the same order for each video. so there are real people out there!
I am one of your biggest fans and what I have to tell you is that I owe you immense respect for you and your career. All my encouragement continues Bono😀😃😄😁😆❤❤
Brian Eno was a master!
This song is overplayed on rock radio...but with it's message, that's no shame - especially NOW.
Bono's voice 😍
What. A. song. 37 years later and still What. A. song
COOL COOL COOL‼︎
and there is Brian Eno‼︎
2:17 What the hell was that?

What more? I need a U2 concert after all this mess.

Same here. There aren't a lot of bands that I listened to in High School that are still around and I still enjoy all these years later.
How apt on MLK Jr's birthday! The best U2 song! Awesome! ❤🎶
Yeah, I'm sure that was not a coincidence.
I'm listening on April 4th. How poignant that Easter falls on that date in 2021...
Dr. King + U2 = ❤

Purchased that Unforgettable fire doc VHS in 1992 when i became a U2 fan at 14. Still have that vhs.

La mejor manera de comenzar 2025 escuchando a los U2. Pura caña. Pure energy.

Watching Bono absolutely straining at 3:12 to get that final "What more in the name of love" line-- just tremendous.

U2
U2 were a great band in their prime. "Beautiful Day", "Desire" and "Hold Me Kiss Me" are my all time favorites.
I think this will be the original studio version in slane castle and not live as the title suggests.
Agreed. The thumbnail gives it away. Plus they just released the remastered in 4K of the original the other day.
defo. that is 1984 larry not 2001 larry 😁
It's the performance from the Unforgettable Fire documentary
For sure some of these clips are not from the actual tracks. Guitar isn't even plugged in sometimes. Vocals don't match the video. Only one mic on the drums. Change of clothes and time of day. there's something really wonderful in seeing the Edge and Brian Eno in the same shot together.

On this, a studio track, the drummer is very competent.
We the people of color thank you for all you did Dr. King. May you rest in peace.

Hell yeah! Best song ever! Made me first fall in love with U2. Blew me away in concert too! Hail to U2 forever a fan!💕💕💕💕

They were kids!!! So young! Now they're tall little old men. :)
