Enjoyed this podcast working on my second Nature's Walk blanket. This first one was in the Wild Hedgerow colorway and I made it for myself. The second one is in the Open Fields colorway to give to a friend. Now that I know what I'm doing and able to read the charts more easily, the second one seems to be zipping along. I've gotten 10 blocks done already. Who-hoo!
Thanks for sharing all your lovely crafts! I enjoyed it so much. Your ideas are amazing 🤩 I'm always impressed 👍😁 Bertie is so cute 😊 ...camera shy little doggie ❤️
The shawl stitches look like broomstick lace. Broomstick you loop many loops of yarn around a fat knitting needle, then attach them together with a crochet stitch or so , so if you used a very fine yarn such as the one of the vintage shawl, it would look like the stitches on your shawl. It's lovely!
Yes, it's very like that, except the loops aren't all gathered together. It's like the fat knitting needle was used, but for individual stitches instead... as far as I can make out!
Hi Sandra, I just popped back to watch this one from nearly a year ago... loved it!! Just happens i have started making the squares from your Nature's Walk CAL which i downloaded way before Christmas, only time allowing now all the hustle and bustle is over. The squares are coming out beautifully!! I am using a really lovely premium acrylic here, by Fiddlesticks( Australia) .. seems very much like SSDK🤗..with a pleasing combo of colours. Anyhow, I wanted to let you know how grateful i am you provided such a fabulous pattern, thank you!! (Edit: now watching the actual podcast on this blanket😄!!) On a side note, I have been distracted way too much lately, trying to knit continental style ....oh dear! I must be too set in my English style ways🤣 learnt in childhood. Inspite of hours of practise (not enough obviously), I still take longer with the C- style and my stitch tension is all over the place! I have noticed when you knit, you use English/ US style knitting, and your needles move so swiftly and smoothly. Knitting goals 2021!!! I hope you and your family are staying safe and well! Best wishes Lin.💖
Oh thank you so much, I’m so glad you are enjoying it. Fiddlesticks is a great name too! I think I’m a bit like you, I did try continental but didn’t get the the stage where is was easy or comfortable. Maybe I should have given it more time I guess! ❤️
@@CherryHeart Thankyou for your reply ☺️ . I feel the same re time , not impossible to achieve if it were my super number one goal. But I'm sure I could whip up several items in ES, in the same time it takes to do half of one thing using the continental method. And I would feel a tad more 'hygge' about it too! Oh well..never say never though!😉x
Oh Sandra, the blanket is gorgeous! I'd be interested in working up a sample piece, I have crocheted nearly all of my life, I don't find much that is difficult to make at this stage in the craft. I like to thrift old doilies and such, to make them over again or use the pattern and make throws and rugs. I reversed engineered an old table cloth of my grandmother's that her sister had made for her, to repair a few damaged motifs so I could use it, for I remember she always had it on a table in her living room. As always it's lovely to catch up with you and see all the lovely makes.
Oh that's so kind of you, thank you! Could I please ask you to email me using the address on this page? Then I can get some details for over to you! ❤️ sandra-cherryheart.blogspot.com/p/loading.html
I was just rewatching your episode when I thought how wonderful it would be if you wrote a pattern for the floral lace pattern you are recreating from the hairpin lace shawl. I would purchase your pattern to make new curtains for my craft room. Your attempt at the pattern is simply beautiful Sandra! What an inspiration you are 🥰!
I’m loving how the blanket is coming along! Can’t wait for the pattern. How lovely it is to have those things from your nan. I love the vintage stuff ❤️
Thank you so much, that's so lovely of you to say! As for the wrap, that's my Ziggy Interrupted Scarf, you can find the link to it in my show notes (near the top) ☺️❤️
The white blanket you are working on is just stunning --- you are so very talented! When you come up with a pattern for sale, I'd love to buy it and give it a try! So lovely...
Thank you so much, I'm really happy with how it's coming on. It's nice to just have the fun of working on it now, after all the brain exercise trying to work out the numbers! 😂
That reproduction of the antique (assuming) from the magazine is gorgeous! I have a piece of lace knitted on hat pins!!! from early 1920's, it was the edging on a small round table cloth (long gone) knitted by my husband's grandmother. I can't imagine knitting on needles no bigger than hat pins. I love your videos, such lovely things to see. I'm crocheting little balls as I watch this, will make into a valentine garland and extras will be toys for kitty. I don't know when was your birthday, but belated good wishes for it.
Yes I'm assuming too! I did manage to track down the lady from the magazine and she said that she had found it at a antique dealer flea market in France but couldn't be sure of the age. Judging by the construction I don't think it can be very recent though. It's absolutely amazing the intricacy of some of these older pieces isn't it? The time and skill they took! ❤️❤️
I'd be interested in testing sample of your filet pattern. I was thinking that it would make a lovely throw for my summer room. Regarding the shawls and doilies from your Nan, I understand that there is a Pattern Detectives group on Ravelry that may be able to identify the patterns.
Patty Crochets oh that would be fabulous, thank you! Could I ask you to send me an email using the address on my blog: sandra-cherryheart.blogspot.com/p/loading.html So I can email you some info? Or send me a message on insta if that’s easier. ❤️ That group sounds amazing! Thanks for letting me know, I shall definitely be checking that out. 👍
Oh and I love your arm warmers...they do look very squishy and soft! Your Grandmother's shawl is beautiful! Looks very delicate. Your pattern recreation in white is well-done - maybe an off-white 'antique white' bedspread...?
I hope that you had a wonderful birthday! Sorry I must have missed it. I would love to to test your blanket. It is going to be beautiful! I so enjoy all of your videos. Even though I’m sure that I’ve missed some because, of my WiFi. Have a wonderful day . XX
So excited about the Heartspun yarn. I am familiar with tencel from garment making. I am sensitive to wool but love the warmth when arthritis flares. Definitely will look into this.😊
Hi Sandra, I’m so happy to see you’re ready for testers for the sample. The sample you have looks great. I sent you an email. Thank you for the update on your projects. Such beautiful work!
I have inherited lots of doilies from grandmother and great grandmothers. Some are very fine and others are less so. I’d don’t know what to do with them, so please share any of your ideas for repurposing yours.
And I'm fully caught up! Oh no.....😕 No more Sandra to binge watch! Lovely arm warmers! Did you say whether or not you intend to release a pattern for those? I could do with making some for wearing in my draughty office! A belated happy birthday to you xx ✨
Ahh that's good to know. I'd pretty much convinced myself that must be what happened with this one, so it's good to know that is indeed a traditional way to construct a blanket and would be expected then, as it would be so unusual now. Thanks! ❤️
Oh yes, I think it's going to be brilliant for those of us who are willing but just can't wear wool. I'm crossing my fingers she gets what she needs to make it happen! ❤️

Sandra I am no expert by any means no children but I have heard another mother say she makes bibs out of wool cause the slobbers and drool runs off and not soaking making the under clothes wet. It makes sense when I heard that but never tried it. Might be a good one to put the test to.
That's interesting and I do remember some bibs did get a bit soggy actually now you say that... humm I'll have to get some feedback from my sister's in law and see what works best!
Hi Sandra - you made a sweater without a front and back? Is that it? You made sleeves, right. And ohhh one day I will make hexagons. Maybe on my road trip. That's a good idea. And as for the white blanket... what a project you choose. Watching all the way... and it's all quite fabulous. Hugs. . Jackie

Yes definitely, it could be so versatile couldn't it? As long as you didn't want to add the border and match the numbers up anyway! 😂
