You should only use motorcycle oil especially on a system like ours where the engine transmission and clutch all share the same fluid. Regular car oil has friction modifiers which are detrimental to both the clutches performance and life expectancy. There exists very limited brands of car oil that satisfy JASO and other criteria suitable for motorcycle oil such as hey specific Shell Rotella oil. However if you don't know what you're looking for play it safe and just buy motorcycle oil.

Have you had any issues with the transmission making an intermittent knocking noise, just wanted to see if it was something simple before I took it in and spent a lot of $$

Hi i wanna start doing my own oil changes instead of taking to the over-priced dealership. I have the 1300 is it the same location as the 950?

i wish you had shown us the 3 hours trying to get these filters off....zero filter access on these bikes drives me nuts

+Gardner Hamilton Use K&N filters. They have a nut on the end so you can use a normal wrench to get it off

    - I live in Vegas and there 0 humidity and super dry, will the 10/40 work here too. Like I said, I don't know anything about mechanics.
    - Lastly, those monkey bars look bas ass on you V-star, was that difficult to do? I asked for estimates and they go over $800 with the extended cables.
Thanks for posting bro, you have a great looking XV950.
