    Nuova Elettronica (Italian for "New Electronics") was a very popular magazine which published several schematics and projects for all sorts of electronic devices, including lots of music-related stuff such as amplifiers, guitar effects and the "Generatore di Ritmi" you played here.
    The kits could be ordered by mail and assembled following the instructions in each article, and of course if you were tech-savvy enough you could make your own modifications to the circuits provided.
    The entire archive of Nuova Elettronica is available online in pdf form, so if anybody wants to build a clone of the Generatore di Ritmi, the schematics and parts list are out there :-)

    the samples on the digital machines are too great!!! the sound of italo-disco and eurobeat! the clap on the viscount machines is truly awesome. the snare on the gisman rhythm machine has so much snap to it!

      @SisterRose 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, they're great. I love the sounds of early digital drum machines in general. Oberheim is usually my favourite but this stacks up.

      It’s crazy how good both the digital and analog ones sound in their ways. You can hear all the love of music these designers had. I wish i could meet the Italian music nerds who made these in like 1977-1984, crack a couple Peronis and hear them talk.

    I wonder how aware they were of what was going on in the US and particularly in Japan, because some of these sounds are _so_ familiar when you've used Korg and Roland rhythm machines from the 60s and 70s or Wurlitzer stuff. But then there's all the other unique machines too.
    Those digital boxes are about as crunchy as it gets too! Fascinating, can't wait to visit!

      I'm pretty sure the Italian companies did as most other companies: Buying the other manufacturer's products and doing something similar. : ) Hence why most of them not only shares the sound design but also product design.

    • @The-word-I-does-not-exist
      @The-word-I-does-not-exist 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I think Korg and Wurlitzer were the pioneers of this type of drum circuitry, and later others went on to expand on it. Roland took it up a level with CR and more significantly with TR models, changing from noise based cymbals/hats to square wave clusters. Love all these old drum boxes, the way the sounds interact and in many cases use shared elements.

    • @momtnz
      @momtnz ปีที่แล้ว

      There was nothing special going on in the USA, just more rhythm boxes from organ manufacturers - just like Italy. Two different markets and the price of exporting at the time was pretty high. Hence the Italians did well in Europe.

    This is how I use my Volca Drum. I make 15 presets (I always leave 1 the same) and then play the touch strip while in preset loading mode. You can change presets 30 times within 1 bar, if you want to. It's great! To hear the effect, slowed down so it's more obvious, it's used on an older track I uploaded called "Friendly Fire", and also on a more recent upload called "Haken Continuum and Volca Drum". The drums and bass were made on the Volca Drum using the technique I described, and then I overdubbed the Continuum part afterwards. The Volca touchstrip makes switching presets much more fluid than on these old machines, plus obviously you can program your own beats, unlike with these machines. But I started that technique because all I had was a preset machine (way back when).

      @@RiccardoPietroni VST's are unarguably the best way to bring your passion of collecting rare instruments to the fingertips to musicians around the world, but perhaps more importantly earn a profit in doing so.
      Any relevant collector who wants to profit off their passion aught to consider it. The intitial work is hell, as I'm well aware, but musicians will easily pay a fair amount for a well-marketed instrument that they feel a connection to.
      Not to mention you're doing your part in preserving and distributing access to such beautiful instruments.
      Ask Hainbach & AudioThing how well Wires did. Or other independent VST producers like Felt Instruments. Might be worth the effort 😉

    Your videos are awesome!! I completely enjoy them and they are informative. Can you make a video on musique concrete? If not with real audiomagnetic tape then virtually with an audio editor? Cut up audio recordings and piece a composition together, composed or random? Splicing audio magtape can take forever like composing on a Roland MC-4 Microcomposer, what they mean by painstaking, so the virtual version is not a bad idea.
    Also, maybe an explanation and comparison of modular and semimodular synthesizers? Like a modular Moog or Polyfusion versus an Arp 2500 or Korg PS-3300?
    And what about a PPG Waveform 2.3, Synclavier, General Development System (GDS), E-mu Drumulator, Korg KR-55 and Korg Trident, if you can find any of them?
    Awesome show!!
