Actually it’s much easier to breathe if the tempo is fast. But yeah, i must agree. Mitch is really amazing
They seem tired here, but what I can NOT understand is how they were able to harmonize in a whole other key!? I struggle keeping my own part in 1 key, and they can just shift up and still sound great together!
maxibloba Once you have the melody down, it's not hard to transpose it into another key

it's actually because his voice, when not amplified, is not as loud compared to when singing with a mic because hitting those low notes are really difficult.
@@colinkim727 It would actually be the Camera tho, because in person Avi would be a lot more loud. Cameras are known to struggle to pick up low notes in their original, there’s a whole science to it. Especially with Avi here, who has already projected a C2.
@@FernyBass although that's true, many people would agree with me on this topic as it is mainly Avi who can't sing those notes loud enough. You can look up numerous videos of him singing stuff live and it isn't very loud.
@@colinkim727 Yes and no, he’s pretty much able to sing those notes because a lot of the times, when he sings a low note that we may not hear through the camera, we can tell that it had volume because of the reactions at a certain distance, like the B1 that he did with a choir that got the attention of everyone far away even if we didn’t hear as much. @@FernyBass Yes. He is able to sing low notes with a good enough volume. But singing a F2, D2, and C#2 are very simple for a basso profundo. This is the best live performance of this song that I've heard from them.
Now that's what seperates the baritone's from the bass. I am a bass 1.5 so this makes my heart. The female is a bad to the bone alto. Wonderful!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Pentatonix!!! They're soooo much better than a bunch of musicians with complete band nowadays.
Very gifted singers. Not since Rockapella has there been such a group. Rockapella is the gold standard for me. This group makes more versatile choices with their members than Rockapella did, making them fresh and new.
Avi must have been exhausted! He wasn't grooving out half as much as he usually does.

Well yeah. They've been on tour for a while, finished and put out their Christmas album WHILE on tour, and I seem to recall them saying in one of the many interviews they've been giving that they're working on ANOTHER album right now. Their singing abilities may be inhumanly awesome, but they ARE still human.

I'm saying... I'm a good beatboxer and I've been trying to imitate him for nearly every single song they've done, and I have to take some little breath more than he ever does. God he's great.
It's a pretty tough arrangement but I felt a bit of a disconnect between the group in this performance. Regardless I bought ptmas and am in love with it! I'm looking forward to more live Xmas music !! :)

When you consider that this was probably recorded with one microphone and no studio tricks (autotune included), this is an impressive display of talent.
(Even so, a close-up mic would have helped us hear percussion vocal subtleties.)

First time I've EVER heard Mitch go flat on anything. They all look tired beyond belief, and they have to sing something that is really built more for 6 people than it is for 5. Getting past that, it's still a great performance. I don't think I've ever seen PTX have a bad day, and it just goes to show what kind of skill these 5 have.
at what part does he go flat?
Rhiannnooonnn During bits and pieces of the beginning half of the song, particularly noticeable during the verse where he's the only one singing (also during the 16 bars leading into the verse) It's not a lot, but his pitch is usually jaw-droppingly perfect, so it's actually quite shocking.
The trio were sick during the filming of this video, which explains the "flatness" of the 3 of them. Kevin and Avi were fine health-wise, though.
Avi started in a different key
Jumping Shadowfaxx Yeah, they did the song in B minor instead of C minor, but that's also the key they always perform it in, and it should make it easier to sing for everyone but Avi (which is likely why they did it).

Acoustics may have been bad, but love it anyway. The official video is terrific, but it's clear the producer used a number of studio tricks to prettify things. Ex: editing out Mitch's need to breathe, or pumping up Avi & Kevin's "rhythm section." This sounds like how it would be if they were singing for you in your living room. Cool.

You can hear the fatigue in their voices too. Barely noticeable, but that's what you hear when you're a vocal music student ;)

this is not the best representation of what they can do. Perezhilton is a media source not a music source - so the audio balance from their surroundings through the camera to our youtube video is not. good. they're not even in flattering light! their awesome version isn't easy to sing live either so.. yeah they look tired (as another viewer said). if you're entertained by this - check out PTXOfficial - because that's AMAZING =]
