@@sahilprusty Welp! So, long story short, OJ Simpson murdered his ex-wife and her lover. Khloe's father, Robert Kardashian, was good friends with OJ, and acted as his defense attorney on the case where he was acquitted. It was a major story in the 90s.
@@sahilprusty The slightly longer explanation, and additional context, is that OJ pretty much definitively did commit the murders. He was known to have a very very bad temper, and there was a mountain of evidence against him along with his suspicious behavior. OJ even wrote a book about it years later called "If I Did It, Here's How" with details of the crime, knowing he couldn't be tried again due to Double Jeopardy laws.
He was able to get away with it for a number of reasons, primarily that the prosecutors badly fumbled the case, but also due to his own considerable resources and star appeal. The DA also pointed to the (INCREDIBLY VALID, I SHOULD ADD!!!) racial disparities in law enforcement and implied LAPD could have planted evidence (which they have 100% been known to do). There's a Netflix miniseries on the trials that's pretty interesting, with Cuba Gooding Jr as OJ. I definitely recommend it, I don't follow the Kardashians either lmao (or sports for that matter) but the OJ trial is a massive part of American cultural history for many reasons (aside from the racial drama, it was the first major media circus around a televised trial, and jury selection was another MAJOR problem). Even decades later, references to it are very common - any time you hear a comment about a white Bronco chase, a missing glove (or a glove not fitting), Marcia changing her hair, it's an OJ reference.
