  • Replacing Cadillac’s best-selling model with an entirely new nameplate is risky business, but that’s exactly what the American automaker did with its first-ever XT5 crossover.

    I just got a 2018 Xt5 Premium Luxury trim which is 1 step down from the top of the line Platinum trim, for $48k. I am surprisingly happy with the mpg @ 25-29+ in the first week of driving. The start/stop feature is mostly in-noticeable especially when restarting. Tons better than my BMW was. Driving it feels much larger than it looks from outside. Overall, I am a happy camper!

    My family had one as a loaner a month or so ago and I must say the FWD version does killer burnouts. The Bose 14 speaker sound system is pretty damn good too (though the door subs were blown on our loaner at just 1,500 miles. :/) but it's pretty fun to drive for a crossover and cue was actually not shit for once. The 8 speed auto is great too, shifts quick and smooth.

    • @BeesonsCars
      @BeesonsCars 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yoshiaki K. My family had a 2014 Escalade Platinum and both differentials went out at 15k miles. We had the XT5 loaner for about two weeks. (From the Cadillac dealer) we ended up trading the Escalade once it was fixed for a 2017 Lexus GS350. Which is a WAY better vehicle.

      The way to go man, smart choice. Had the Buick, then Caddy as loaner, traded in for Lexus. I see what happened there.

      Wow. Toyota fans up in here lol. Get a real luxury car atleast a 3 series BMW or Mercedes. Don’t get a brand that shares same looks. But I do like the 2017 Camry I don’t really like the 2018 that much. I only like it because of the engine, wheel, and JBL.

    • @vegasbab.y3740
      @vegasbab.y3740 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyler Beeson you must’ve did something wrong to it. Or someone who test drove it, drove the shit out of it because there would be no way that it would mess up for no reason only at 15k miles.

    • @vegasbab.y3740
      @vegasbab.y3740 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rongbo Yang I have a Buick in the family. It’s nice. Runs a bit smooth. Idling is perfect. Can’t even feel a thing but a car going passed you at 55 at a light. And has enough power to pull ahead before someone gets on the side of you. It’s actually my grandpa Buick which I love the Verano nothing has happened to his car. I would say he has 50k miles maybe. Or more. But it’s a good car. I like it, the radio sounds amazingly good. Just like the 2013 Malibu but the Malibu actually sounded better.

    Once again please state what sort of adaptive cruise the car has. Does it have partial (turns off under X MPH), 0mph (will bring you to a stop then you hit go or gas to get going again), or traffic jam assist (stop and go traffic).
    It isn't enough to just check mark adaptive cruise anymore.

  • @ironsaber2

    people completely miss the point of auto stop/start. its their to save fuel so if you can turn it off everyone would end up doing so. if you don't want a "jarring" start then go easy on the gas pedal when it kicks in. you have to let the engine come back on so just give it half a second between taking your foot off the brake and accelerating . i have it in my malibu and traffic is not as annoying as it used to be because i don't just sit there idling and burning extra gas

    You note that the XT5's starting price of $40,000 is the lowest in the segment. What about the $38,000 Lincoln MKX? I am biased because I think Lincoln has come a long way from its stodgy image (although it still has some work to do). I rented a 2016 MKX recently and found it to be a great crossover. I'm curious to see you review the 2017.

    Low starting price is good, but Cadillac current pricing strategy for what is still a '2nd-class' luxury brand (along with Acura, Infiniti and Lexus) who's price when optioned up matches it up alongside '1st-class' European offerings isn't going to expand the brand when a X3 & GLC300 would cost about the same. The fact I see a ratio of about 10 NX200t to 1 XT5 kind of proves this.

    While it looks good, I don't like the black plastic cladding. That alone makes it undeserving of being more than $45,000. If you were to get the base model, then I it would compete quite well with the RX and MKX base models , but to equip them similarly after that, the Cadillac becomes outrageously expensive compared to the others and I think that's where it ultimately falls. While the latest Cadillacs are great vehicles [I do like the ATS and CTS], they're just not ready to be asking for that much money just yet, when a few years ago they were making garbage.

    • @mscongeniality8205
      @mscongeniality8205 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      banstaman This comment makes no sense. What the company was producing a few years ago has absolutely NOTHING to do with the price of their vehicles today. Cadillac is NOT producing the same quality vehicles they were 10 years ago, they’re actually worth every dollar of MSRP these days. If you actually drove one and compared it the competition you’d know this to be true unless you’re biased.

    Wait. The base model doesn't include leather? Hope it's leatherette and not cloth, but knowing GM it's probably cloth. And a stop start system you can't turn off? Come on GM...they almost always disappoint for me. The only thing they really excel in is sports cars, and even that isn't going too well for them sales wise. I try to get into it but I just can't.

    • @banstaman
      @banstaman 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The base model offers leatherette, but so does the base level RX and MKX, a lot of luxury manufacturers are making leather optional and leatherette standard. As far as the auto start stop, I'm sure you can go to the dealer to have it turned off, but of course that'd cost money.

      Blake Swan You have to see and drive it in the real world it'll blow you away. Cadillac is making excellent vehicles. Don't let the automotive press fool you.

    I liked the old RWD Cadillac SRX from 2004 - 2009. Cadillac figured out people buying crossover vehicles don't care about driving dynamics and decided to copy the Lexus RX and sales took off. I think I would rather have a fully loaded Chevrolet Equinox than this new Cadillac XT5. $67,000 is out of this world for a small luxury crossover. Cadillac has the most ambitious delusional pricing on their cars like this and the now discontinued ELR.

      Yudha Bagaskara Not even in the same class of vehicle. This XT5 competes with the likes of the Lexus RX, Acura MDX, etc, etc..

      Those are smaller and a lot more expensive when similarly speced.

      They're pretty much the same. XT5 is GLC and Q5's competitor.

    No longer the class leader and with the name change sales reflect the stupid thinking at Cadillac.

    2019 Cadillac XT5 worst car I've ever owned!!! Stuck in cruise control accelerated to 105 MPH, Had to shut the car off to get it to stop! BUYER BEWARE!!!

    Very disappointing to drive. The ride is rough, unyielding and jarring over rough pavement. The controls in the digital information centre between the tach and speedometer are overly complex and the design is mediocre. The Mercedes GLC blows this out of the water
