  • I've been reflecting on this discourse of the Buddha (Majjhima Nikaya 8), where Ven. Mahacunda asked the Buddha how someone who is beginning to practice lets go of all the views regarding the self and the cosmos. The Buddha started with how different meditators can come up with different perceptions of the self through practicing stillness, but meditation really only brings bliss and not total liberation without understanding (wisdom).
However, true self-effacement comes from not neglecting one's body, speech, and mind in the day. It also suggests (from my understanding) that the nature of our mind has the quality of loving-kindness and unselfishness as he also stressed strongly on not attaching to any views. Let me know your thoughts if you would like to share your reflection on this sutta.
