You forgot to mention Eddie Grant, who played for the Phillies, Reds, and Giants before the war, and was killed in action during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in 1918. There was a monument to him in center field at the Polo Grounds, home of the New York Giants. Something I find really interesting about Ruth is his peculiar sociability. He would pick and chose who he would make friends with based on how he felt about their personality. During the Great Depression, while he was traveling to Boston from New York for a meeting, one such friend friend he picked up along his way was my great, great, great, grandfather, Jack Casey. Ruth was "Intrigued by a sign that read 'let no hungry man walk past these doors'"

The Great War also had an effect on the 1919 Black Sox Series. Due to the shortened season, the owners prorated players' salaries. Brooklyn's All-American first baseman, "Gentleman" Jake Daubert, sued Charlie Ebbets to recover the $2,150 he was owed, as the contracts of the time were per season and made no mention of the number of games to be played during that season. He won the suit, and Ebbets promptly had him traded to Cincinnati, where Daubert was made the team captain until his death in 1924, including the 1919 World Series campaign.
If I recall correctly, a lot of ball players went to work in wartime industry to avoid getting drafted. The owners resented this, particularly when the players started playing in industrial leagues instead of for their professional teams.
Having watched a few of your videos from your baseball series this was pretty neat. I always loved playing the game but never really got into the history very much.
