Thank you for your awesome videos which I keep! Was working on a project that called for the alternating half hitch and knowing it, gave it no concern. Well my brain fumbled it up with many versions of wrong 😂. Finally used my brain and thought “Gray Wonders! 💡 “. Looked it up and in 5 seconds I was back at it! The easiest knot there is 😆. The point is the value of what you give us in these tutorials. It doesn’t matter how easy or hard a knot is, you have it clearly stated and shown so there is immediate understanding! I’m sure I’ve thanked you a thousand times, but thank you for the entirety of what this gift really is for all of us 💝💝

Very nice and great tutorial. How do we calculate the length of the strands, any approximate formula? Thank you!

Thank you! It depends on what you are making, how tight/loose you want the knots to be, and the size rope you are using. However, there is no perfect way to know how much you will need, just estimations:
Thicker cord = more cord, Thinner cord = less cord
Tight weave (lots of knots) = more cord, Open weave (gaps between knots) = less cord
If you are using a lark's head knot to start your work, you will need to take into account that you are folding the ropes in half - double your length
If you are making a wall hanging with a looser net, a good rule of thumb is to measure each rope 4x the desired length. So lets say you want the wall hanging to be 3 feet, multiple that by 4. Each rope would be 12 feet long.
If you are making something more detailed, tightly knotted, or with little negative space, it is recommended to measure 6x the length.
Remember to leave extra length for fringes or extra decorative ends.
**For this particular video the white rope is 6mm braided cord (fairly thick), and in total were 60 inches (then folded in half from larks's head), and I could comfortably make 10 knots.
Wow, I typed a lot, sorry! haha. But I hope that made some sense and is helpful. It is very trial and error when you are first starting, and sometimes it is best to just wing it :)

Gray Wonders I couldn’t have asked for more. Such a great help. Calculating the length is still a struggle and very frustrating when I run out of cord, but this is surely familiar to everyone.
Thank you very much for your precious tips!
