I’m in Western Canada and I really enjoyed watching televised home game of the North Stars. This was due to a higher camera level which gave you a larger view of the ice surface. I felt real bad when the Met Centre was demolished. I’d definitely love to see a video on this arena as well.

I saw several Twins games there and have silent 8mm home movies. Also saw a few Viking games there, including the dreaded "Hail Mary" game against the Cowboys. We were at the other end zone (3rd base side) waiting by the exit to run to the bus to take us to the train station. Most don't remember but there were actually TWO attempts by the Cowboys to get the winning touchdown. The first one (obviously) failed and I THINK there may have been a penalty to allow them to try again. I remember seeing something flying thru the air after the catch was made and thinking it was yet another penalty, then I saw the referee go down to the ground and another signaling touchdown. We were stunned to see it was a touchdown for the Cowboys so we hurried to the bus to get warm and wait for the ride to the train station. We found out later about the whiskey bottle that hit the ref.

A promotion later would give 50,000 dollars to any player that could duplicate the feat. Killerbrew shot is considered the longest by a right-handed batter.

The 2nd deck was added for the 1965 All Star Game. The Minneapolis Miller's were a AAA team for the NY Baseball Giants. (at that time) They almost moved here before the Senators did. The stadium was also built in that location because it was equal distance between Mpls & St.Paul. Twin Cities.

I think something died in Vikings when they moved indoors. The same could be said about Detroit Lions. Lions were fairly good when they played outdoors in Tiger stadium. I'm from Chicago, and I hope the Bears NEVER move indoors. They've made noise about moving to suburban Arlington Heights which would be OK for me, provided it was OUTDOORS. I heard one time a few years ago the Buffalo Bills played a late season home game in nearby Toronto, Canada against Miami Dolphins. What a waste of home field advantage against a southern team! The Toronto stadium had a retractable dome, and I think it was closed, and I think Miami won. I could be incorrect on a few of these details, so feel free to correct me.

One year, I think 1977, but I could be off about a year, the LA Rams were able to host a playoff game in LA against Vikings. Wouldn't you know it, it poured rain the whole game and was an absolute slopfest. I think if you watched game on an old black and white TV, you may have had trouble telling one team from another, and a lot of people still had black and white TV's back then. The Vikings won. So much for home field advantage!

The sick part was why the "Old" Senators moved. District of Columbia Stadium (renamed "RFK" in 1968) was opened in 1961. It was owned and operated by the National Parks Service. President Kennedy put enormous pressure on the Redskins to sign black players as a condition of renting the stadium. They did so. Kennedy also informed the Senators that they could not have segregated seating. (Clark Griffith wanted blacks restricted to the upper deck bleachers, the worst seats for baseball.) Griffith objected vehemently. The original plan was that Minnesota would get an expansion team; instead, Griffith decided to move the Senators there, and Washington got the expansion team (the "New" Senators). Griffith's motive: "You have fewer blacks in Minnesota."
The saddest part is that the "Old" Senators were actually building a good team. But they moved to Minnesota, where they won the pennant (1965) and two division titles (1969, 1970). The 1965 World Series should have been played in Washington, and the "Old" Senators could have competed with Baltimore in the A.L. East. The Griffith ownership was pond scum.
