Having previously seen a manefestation of his ptsd from his neighbour, Nicky rapidly settles into his old house, dozing off to sleep. The rest of act 3 is Nicky coming to terms with his trauma and accepting his circumstances. The end is basically Nicky waking up and unpacking hiss stuff from his city apartment, fresh and enlightened. Any questions? To be fair, yeah, the ending was pretty anti-climatic, especially after such a great build up in act 1 and 2. I was honestly hoping for a brand new secret to be revealed instead of the two "boss fights" we got instead.

Ok, so uh, this is how I sum it up. The Neighbor (Theodore Peterson), his wife, and his two kids, Aaron and Mya, were living their life. The kids were playing hide and seek. One day, Peterson and his wife were driving. He soon ended up in a car crash, and his wife died. His kids suddenly saw Peterson come home just to learn that his wife died. Aaron, who was their son, was sad and got angrier and angrier. Eventually, Mya finds her doll on the top of the roof, and Aaron accidentally pushes her off the roof with her doll. Peterson was sad, so he put up missing posters, and he was broken inside. Nicky (the player), finds the Neighbor locking his son in the basement, and gets locked in too while trying to save his son. Nick escapes the basement and tries to get out of the house. A couple years later, Nick got evicted from his apartment. He finds a new house and the Neighbor’s house torn down and destroyed. He still has PTSD of the past events, and Fear creates Act 3. (Act 3 is just a nightmare.) Through Act 3, he overcomes all of his fears. In Act Finale, he overcomes his fear of the Neighbor. He gets bigger and bigger as he saves his younger self from Fear. Once that happens, he’s already overcome them.
In the end when the Neighbor is in the house, he is looking surprised to see the protagonist right? He wants to come out to us but he can't because of the shadow man
the shadow teleported us to show us how the shadow (son of neighbor) was deadin the battle with he giant neighbor... later we show the shadow we are the light and the shadow was fade in the final ... in the scene of the shadow knocking the door we see why the house of the neighbor is destroyed ... the neighbor die... and the shadow stay in the destroyed house waiting for us and let he go with her father the neighbor for this the shadow disappear in the final scene :/ that was my theory sorry but my english is bad for im a hispanic speak
I was thought that the first act of hello neighbor was like a continuation of hello neighbor: hide and seek, because i think that after the son accidentally pushed her sister (killing her) the neighbor must have been really mad at his son and he locked him in the basement (like a grounding)

It wasn't just a dream, it was trauma. Act 1 and 2 are basically the prologue of Act 3 and Act Finale.
