As somebody without a service dog or even pet dog it drives me nuts too. Honestly I'd love to see animals banned from places and it strictly enforced, with the obvious exception being legitimate service dogs. I personally know several people who just drag their pets out in public and get all offended when people give them looks (which they should give them negative looks). Sorry your pet doesn't "need" to be everywhere with you, and I think these so called emotional support dogs are really just dogs with separation anxiety that the owners don't want to leave at home.
Well said. I would like to add and point out that the ADA is also at fault a for not taking this issue seriously, and not addressing the root problem of fake sercive animals. But limiting what animals people can use as service animals and calling it good, vs soloving the real problem and excluding people like me who could use a service animal but for verious reasons can't do dogs or mini-horses, when they changed the definition of what a sevice animal can be. And they completely ignored whether or not other species could be trainned to perform the same service tasks and pubic access training to the same standereds as dogs, and just went with what was eseast, which was what was most used (aka dogs) and what was the most famous examples (dogs and a sercive mini-horse who had widely featured in the news) vs actual study, or even a way to potentially add new speices upon there viability to be used as service animals. This has hurt alot of disabled people and is broderline discrimination against disabled people by the ADA it's self, and in the end only made a bigger problem out of things, without sovling anything just moving more of the problem over to ESAs. ESAs were hardly even knowen about before then definition, and instead of helping all it did was add the problem of fake ESAs on top of the fake serivce animal problem and effectively alienate a portion of the people that should have been pertected by the law. This isn't to say there wasn't a problem that needed addessing, there was and still is, but that the change in policy was complete bull c***, and needs to be reworked with disabled people inmind. There needs to be a discussion on actually effforceing the laws as they should've been and had they been doing so the change of policy and definition wouldn't have had to happen in the frist place, and if enforment of claiming a pet as a service animal law isn't enough then maybe it's time to discusse harsher punishments for braking them. And the needs to be some level regulation on ESAs, (as non really exist at the moment) to give someway to differentiate them a bit from pets and to protect owners of housing and travel industries, from fake and untrained/missbehaving ESAs.
