It’s called a wolf eared cap. It’s a copy of the original style worn by trappers of the fur trade. Allowed the trappers to get close to buffalo while hunting. The fur caps with the animals face’s on them sold at modern rendezvous are a “Hollywood” version taken from old sketches and paintings. These are simple rectangles sewn together made of wool, or leather, that look like ears when worn.
Oh I've been there alright I mis my Rockies everyday day. Live in Wyoming for 30 years some of it on the blacks fork just down river from bridgers crossing and a few of them near fort William (the first fort Laramie) guess I did there too. Mountain man
My Greatx4 Grandfather was Uncle Jack Robertson,never missed a one back in the day of the real ones....Buried at Carter Cemetery inside Ft Bridger,so he is still going to this one
