- Doctor Who fans have been creating their own Dalek designs for years now, ranging from simple repaints to completely new designs. In this video, we are going to be taking a look at five fan-made Dalek designs from across the Doctor Who fandom, ranging from fan animations, fan-made renders, and even fan-made props.

A DW animated series would be a great way to explore concepts the budget wouldn't allow. The 8th Doctor's audios getting getting adapted would be really cool.
@@Coroplocs-Chameleon I've always thought that the Sixth Doctor would be a great choice for an animated series. Colin Baker is a great voice actor, and the Sixth Doctor's colourful coat would be ideal for a Saturday morning cartoon. They could even put Frobisher in there, or create a brand new companion
One of the other cool aspects I like about the Doctor Who Anime fan video is how Davros can transform between his usual life support chair and Dalek Emperor casing. There's also a cliffhanger tease with the Renegade Supreme reactivating after being long abandoned at the end.
Paul Johnson, known as Otaking Animations online, also did work as the lead animator for the Tenth Planet animated reconstruction for the missing episodes of that story. He's also done brilliant animations like a Star Wars one about Tie Fighters and I'm generally a big fan of his work. His latest fan work is Alien : Monday which I highly recommend checking out.
The Dalek General gave me Death Star weapons technician helmet lol.
The anime daleks are literally my favourite dalek design, i also think they're one of the best depictions of daleks with their robotic echoey voices and their extremely powerful weaponry, even down to their superiority complex, ignorance and how they treat other life "human creatures" 🤣
They're just cool
I remember seeing a vid from 2013 where Storm was attending an event. One guy goes "uh oh. The dreadnaught. Maybe we could hitch a ride". The dalek Storm then stopped dead, turned around and said: HITCHING A RIDE? RIDERS GET EXTERMINATED" and blasted him and his camera with its water guns. I presume you've seen that video too, Bumps, but I thought I'd bring it up anyway.
The short story I submitted to the Paul Spragg Memorial New Writers competition featured a concept not dissimilar to the Dalek Ambassador actually! I called it the Dalek Headhunter, and it was a Time War Dalek commander tasked with recruiting other species into joining the Daleks in the Time War in case the Daleks were desperate and needed allies. It had a simple drone body with more rounded dome lights reminiscent of classic Daleks, a silver dome, and orange sense globes, as it was trying to look a little less threatening and more rounded. It was essentially a Dalek Recruitment Official.
These are some slick designs here. The fans are creative to say the least.
While it’s official canon, I think ThePrydonian Paradigm Dalek redesign is also phenomenal, taking everything that worked about the original 2010 design and making a design that’s much sleeker and more intimidating.

Oh that Paradigm redesign is *lovely* it fixes the proportion issues while keeping all the good bits, and it's the only attempt I've seen that actually looks good, most others just feel worse to me
Dalek Ambassadors... No matter what they try, The Doctor wouldn't buy any of their "sweet words". Daleks will be always be Daleks.
The Dalek Ambassador design is really cool. I love the Prydonian's designs, the Purified Daleks are my favourite, modernised movie Daleks. They're the design I'd choose if the TV series redesigned the Daleks.
I could imagine for the Ambassadors, intel salvaged from the Cult of Skaro during their time in New York gave the Daleks knowledge of the art deco movement which was adapted for the Ambassador casing to make them more striking and aesthetically pleasing.
I want to say that the Field Commander was based on a concept for the 2008 Supreme I've seen in a Book (possibly the Dalek handbook?) I remember seeing it a few years after The Dalek That Time Forgot and doing the DeCaprio point for a minute.

My fan made Dalek Design was a concept for a “perfect” Dalek drone, as I call it. Essentially taking the overall silhouette of the Bronze Daleks, but with a dark Gunmetal and black color scheme reminiscent of the classic Genesis/Renegade Daleks. Still having the blue eyestalk, but with optional colors for other functions. An all-black executioner with a red eye, a white and black commander with an orange eye, etc. The Supreme would be the only variant to have any gold on its casing, denoting its rank.
I'm not quit as creative or talented as theses fans, but I do enjoy model kit building. I have Dalek kits from Airfix (Daleks Take Manhattan) and Comet (classic Daleks). I wish there were more. I'm in Davros mode when building and painting these (hey, I'm only 69, still just a kid).

2005 design with imperial dalek color scheme is the absolute best of all time
4:50 iirc part of the gimmick of that special was that the designs of the daleks/cybermen etc would be made more 'extreme' becsuse they're from an alternate, darker future. I'd always believed this design was supposed to be what all Daleks looked like in the Dark Dimension.
A personal favourite of mine from The Prydonian is his Special Weapon variants. The Renegade variant is awesome, and I love that his NuWho variant was brought forth into Big Finish.

The perpetuity daleks from infiltration of the daleks were a simple but great design

To answer the question of whether or not I made my own Dalek design, yes. I made the dome lamps into square based pyramids, added a guard around the neck section that would slide over the neck while the limbs and eye sunk into the casing, effectively creating a siege mode for the Dalek when pesky humans start to overwhelm it by somehow defeating its brothers. I also combined aspects of Classic Daleks, Bronze Daleks, and Paradigm Daleks concerning the eyestalk. There are fins around the eye itself, which glows blue and has a single pupil. The bumper on the skirt section is also more rounded. I even made a heirarchy for the various classes of Dalek. Normal drones are divided into the basic bog standard Dalek in gray, scout Daleks in silver, scientist Daleks in blue, and strategists in red. Their respective command classes, the Commanders, Spies, Surgeons, and Operators, are all identified with black domes and are considered Elite Daleks. Naturally, Elites, have superiors in the Dalek Supreme Council, consisting of the Black Supreme, the Purple Time Controller (a new one that isn't so free thinking as the one in Big Finish), the orange Psy Controller, and the green Special Weapons Dalek. They then report to the black and gold Emperor's Guards, leaving the white and gold Emperor at the top of the Dalek Heirarchy (either Davros or a specially-bred Dalek).
The fact Dalek Storm hasn’t been made canon despite that beautiful prop is a sin
My favourite fan design has got to be ThePrydonian’s Kammerjäger Daleks, I think the lore is that the Germans managed to steal Bracewell’s Ironside blueprints and made their own variants. The designs are amazing, having a great WW2 tank kind of aesthetic
Dalek Storm also appeared in the Second Empire fan comic as part of a prototype force of experimental Daleks alongside its comrades: Tempest, Monsoon, Blizzard and Drizzul

The Minecraft mod The Dalek Mod had some very interesting designs as well!

I actually have created some of my own.
TLDR: Abandoned prototype and Time Strategist variant.
The first I made while I was in elementary school and updated relatively recently, both designwise and lorewise. It was a prototype abandoned by Davros, before the brainwashing became a part of the equation. Because of this, it still believed itself to be a Kaled, despite having a Dalek-esque shell. Its head had strips missing from it with no head lamps, and its skirt had more of an Imperial shape to it with windows instead of hemispheres, with all of the gaps filled in with a foil material similar to what's seen on the original lunar lander module. It also had a similar gunstick design to the New Paradigm, just shrunk down to fit the older design. Instead of ball joints, it had fabric accordion-style joints. Little me called it Dalek Serpentine because of its green and silver coloration, but I now call him Designation Δ413K.
The second came waaaay later and is based on the Time Strategist. It basically IS the Time Strategist from a story standpoint, just with a new casing. The casing itself is dark metallic grey and black, with a short eyestalk with a white lens. Structurally it combines the head and shoulder sections of the Supreme from The Stolen Earth with the general vibe of the Emperor from Evil Of The Daleks. It also has a ring around it that starts at the front of its base and ends at the back of its shoulders, which contains its hemispheres. I built this one using a 3 inch Supreme figure that I dismembered (I used some of the remaining components to build my Overseer figure), added some bits and bobs I had lying around, and painted. This guy is what I call The Aegis, and is the backbone of my Survivors concept.
Nice to know you like the Dr who anime too. Probably the nearest thing we'll get to 2D animated daleks as in reconstructions of lost dalek stories the daleks are 3D animated. And even if there ever was an official dr who anime or cartoon the daleks would likely be CG too -_-

A bit sad, Daleks! wasn't as good animation wise to otherwise, but I can't wait until the next big one.
I have a lot of time for the 'Daleks!' animated series, granted the animation isn't great by modern standards but it was made on a shoe-string budget as a web series aimed at Dalek fans, and I thought the voice work from Nick Briggs and Anjli Mohindra was fantastic. I feel as though the series was designed to be a spiritual successor to the TV21 Dalek comics, as a lot of the tone and imagery of the series seems to be inspired by those comics. On a personal note, although I recognise that the animation quality was quite shoddy in places, it did give me a sense of nostalgia as it reminded me of cutscenes from late '90s and early 2000s games that I used to play as a kid, and from time to time the quality of the direction would shine through despite the limitations of the animation, as whoever directed the episodes definitely knew how to frame Daleks to make them look intimidating. The Dalek Prime Strategist is a standout character in the series for me, I'd love to see it show up in the TV series in the future.

In vrchat theres also some other fan made daleks like the encaged daleks the celestial daleks, the chill daleks, and the fancy daleks

Dalek storm looks cool I would like that one in a tv show.
And some times yes, I did some of my own dalek designs
I often visualize the Dalek Storm in a 3rd-prson shooter like in Dice's Battlefront II.
It could be like a specialist unit you can play as when you're ready to respawn among other Dalek designs depending on the faction you're in.
I know it's a big ask, because game development is hard and ideas are cheap, but a guy can dream, can't he? Also, also, the Doctor Who anime Dalek scenes are what I listen to when I do my cardio. It's all just so exciting, so it ramps me up.
I like the Ambassador design.
I would suggest my crusader Daleks as my fan made dalek designs which has the key character trait of using colour schemes from their past.
Though I would say the main big fan made Dalek I got is my strategist supreme who has a blue and black casing and is wired into the computer systems of his command ship so he has larger storage systems in order to not have to delete anything. His whole skill is analyzing the tactics of enemies looking at their strengths and weaknesses then adapting the Dalek strategy around it. Essentially anyone the Daleks are attacking can't use the same strategy twice against the Strategist supreme.
Other Fan Daleks I have in the crusader empire are the Dalek advisors which have purple casings and work with the Dalek emperor and oversee the Supreme council as the Emperor's representative.
Dalek attack commander which has the same casing as the Dalek drones but have higher autonomy though are still below the Red Daleks.
Then Dalek wardens which oversee the labour camps and have blue bottoms with a black dome.
The rest are already seen casings from throughout their history used by different variants of their empires. (its probably easy to guess where the casing colour inspiration comes from)
Drone, Special Weapons Daleks, and Spider Daleks have grey casings.
the Red Dalek lieutenants have red casings (of course)
The Dalek source commanders have red and black casings.
The Dalek strategists have blue casings.
The lower ranking Dalek Supremes have black casings.
The upper class Dalek Supremes have black and gold casings.
Dalek council have full gold casings.
The Dalek Emperor has a full gold casing.
Dalek scientists have orange casings.
Dalek Geneticists have green casings.
I think Dalek Storm just El-E-Vates the concept of a Dalek and looks unstoppable really. Now I don't want to annoy any Whovian fans but I started out as a 4th and 5th Doctor fan then fell out of watching Who, becoming a Star Wars fan. Anyhow I later got into 3D designing lazer swords and have modelled a Dalek themed lightsaber (sorry) and more recently I took the plunge and modelled a basic Dalek which I'm kind of proud of as I did it without using plans. I was surprised how it turned out...but mine still pales in comparison to these in your video. Thanks for sharing.
If I'm remembering it correctly, the Dalek General looks to be based on early concept art for the Supreme Dalek in Journey's End

Any fans here of Mechmasters Second Empire Dalek web comic? There are countless amazing dalek designs in that. Including Storm himself who features. Darkraven on youtube has even made an animated series of it. Its worth your time for any dalek fan. The voices can take a little getting used to, but thats because the daleks in their "universe" have indivuduality and names and its about one Daleks struggle to fight for the Daleks to stop becoming a nameless tyranical race and keep their individuality as a species.

Dalek general was a concept design for the supreme dalek. Not his design.
