Viktor, this video is 6 years old and is still the only one I found to help hide the bands for my prints. And the bonus is that I prefer it with noise. Thanks so much!
I've had a lot of trouble trying to fix a gradient in a 3D render that wouldn't go away no matter what I tried. Adding some slight noise made it much more bearable without impacting the look, so thank you for the tip!
This is super helpful and this method translates well to video in Davinci Resolve as well. Make sure the Fusion Composition is set to 16bit and then go to the Color page, add 35mm grain effect and turn it up to 0.5. Thank you!
My question is how do you minimize or remove LED banding when shooting electronic shutter? I shot a low light event that was using cheap LEDS for their stage and some of my photos have banding. Luckily most of my photos are good it's just a few that would be nice to save. I was able to reduce banding in camera at the event but I was hitting my limits. I was shooting with the electronic shutter at F2.8, shutter ranged 1/100, 1/125, 1/150, iso 1600. I was able to get minimal banding at 1/100 but it's still there in some of the images. I couldn't lower the shutter speed without getting motion blur and sacrificing focus I tried and it and the images are out of focus due to talent movement. Rising my iso introduced noise. I also know mechanical shutter would of been probably better but I shot in electronic shutter because I didn't want to disturb the live event. I've shot with electronic shutter before and never had this issue before. I'm editing in Affinity Photo.
Unfortunately, LED banding can probably only be removed by careful manual dodging and burning. Unless, there is a plugin specifically design for it -- but even then there would be at least edge cases. However, I've never retouched images that had LED banding so I'm quite far from an expert on this.
Do you think that if I have banding on illustrator or photoshop, I will have the same banding when I will print it (business card in this case)? My color is CMJN (French).
Viktor - thanks for this very useful tip. I have a couple of twilight shots taken in the 'blue hour' where the blue night sky had significant banding. I have been struggling for ages trying to figure out what was causing it. Now i know and thanks to you have a solution to deal with it. Thanks!
Well, Frequency Separation is a technique and as that does not make the skin soft and smooth "out of the box." Unfortunately, there are no great methods that would help you achieve soft skin without putting in the work.
Yea, it was a quick recording while my wife was asleep. I did not notice at the time I was whispering, but you are totally right. :D :D Will have to rerecord this.

The noise, for me, actually gives a surprisingly nice touch of style to it. Thanks!

Deeply appreciated Victor!

Unfortunately, the IMAGE tab is not in my menu on top. It's really weird. I don't know where it is gone. Any idea?
Thanks for the tip, by the way, do you know of it.works.on Illustrator too???
Hi. I know it's an old movie but I have this problem only on Photoshop CC. On Photoshop CS6 gradient works fine. Why???

Thank you SO much, super helpful and worked amazingly.
I am setting up files for print, and tried both with and without noise in .psd and .ai
how does this work in illustrator CC

Hey Viktor, what is the fastest way to do frequency separation for close-up portraits ?
+Mukesh Maharjan what do you mean?
Viktor Fejes i mean to make look skin very soft, smooth and without all blemishes.

Can't we somehow use dithering to get rid of banding?
Thank you... this bothered me so much
thanks! worked like a charm!
why are be whispering?. lol. great video

@@ViktorFejes I'm watching at night, it's perfect ^)
When I choose black to blend it turns out black?
If you choose black then you can put it in "screen" blending mode instead of overlay.
The grain trick worked for me thank you!
Awesome!
Thanks for the tips
thank you
