I’m South African and there we learnt Afrikaans, I’ve now realized how similar Dutch and Afrikaans are (Afrikaans is actually just a modified Dutch so yeah lol) but it’s interesting to see how many words are the same of similar and how much I can understand 0-0

Actually in English we have 2 words for dog. These are dog and hound. Hound originates from old English's Germanic roots. English has lots of words for the same thing because it's a mixture of so many languages. The Germanic root of Dutch and old English is also why Dutch and English have quite a lot of similar sounding words.

In some languages you can say learn when saying teach. For example, "teach" in Dutch is "onderwijzen" and "learn" in Dutch is "leren" but "Ik ga je Nederlands leren" means "I'm going to teach you Dutch".

I'm just amazed by the way she writes. Then again, I have to write big letters with a marker often to mark big coils at work, and I don't have a fixed way to write letters/numbers either I noticed. And that while I used to have competitions with friends in primary school to get the best grade in handwriting, and we used to be good at it. Now my handwriting requires a learned decipherer to read it. Luckily I can just type my useless messages on a keyboard now, so that I can bother you guys with it in a language understood across the world.
so one of my dreams in life is to live in Belgium and i decided that i'd do one thing a day to help achieve that goal and this is a fantastic way to help me get used to the language \, hearing it and pronouncing certain words, i cannot thank you enough Nanou you really are fantastic.
