I just want y’all to know that I named my cat “Ben” so that I could yell BEYYYYYN several times a day. He now responds to it and comes when called. However...he does not bring the tea 🙁
I love how often Ben admits he just has a huge crush on his girlfriend still, in these podcasts. I dont think I've seen a podcast yet where he doesnt express admiration for Cristine.
Well, wow... After watching this podcast I realised that our ginger male cat (Svaras) is definitely so annoying just becouse he is a ginger cat :D we have two cats. Sagutė has black furr and she is so simple to handle. She just wants to eat, sleep and hide. But Svaras is just from another dimention 🙈🤣 he jums into cupboard if you turn away for a second and you cant take him out of it. He scratches the door when you are in another room. Sits in front of a TV if you watch a movie and dont pay attention to him. And my oh my, you cant cut his nails becouse it looks like his soul hurts when you try to do it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My fiancé is allergic to cats and I already had two when we met...it was like if you want me, you gotta get used to sneezing! He loves my cats and had grown up with cats so was more used to the allergy and ways to prevent it, but yes I agree! Any person who puts up with that to have cats and date someone is such a keeper!
There are drastically different levels of allergic. Some ppl can't "just deal with it". But animal priority level is definitely something you need to have figured out before cohabitating.
When my parents started dating my mom had two cats, one male and one female. The male cat hated my dad and one night he pooped on my dad’s chest while he was sleeping.
I can relate to the story about the maintenance guy who "rescued" a random orange cat thinking it was Zyler. When I was just about 18 yrs old my mom and I rented a house in a cul-de-sac and our neighbor right next door had a black Labrador retriever. We knew them just well enough that we were allowed to pet the dog and even go into their backyard to play with him while the owner was at work during the day. Well one day my mom was driving home and came across a black Lab who looked EXACTLY like our neighbor's dog. When she stopped, the dog was super friendly and happily jumped right into her back seat, so she figured it HAD to be their dog! She opened the gate and put the dog in the backyard. The next day the owner asked us if we knew how some random dog got into her backyard... Turns out her ACTUAL dog had been at the vet's all day, so we just coincidentally came across someone else's black Lab who happened to be friendly and allowed us to "abduct" him... Oops!!! Don't worry, we found the correct owner soon afterwards and we all had a good laugh over it, but man it was pretty embarrassing haha
Okay, but that story of the worker grabbing the orange cat and putting it in your house because he thought he accidentally let Zyler out is actually kind of sweet that he showed that much concern about it
Re: Menchie and her attraction to Ben's ears and licking her bed. She may have been taken away from her mother at too early an age and didn't get weaned properly, or was weaned by force. If they don't get enough time with Mom cat and enough nursing time, they can develop some compensatory behaviors later in life. I have three cats from a litter where the mom cat had to go the vet when the kittens were still nursing. I bottle fed them for the week she was gone. They went back to nursing when she came home but one of them still wanted "mom" time well after she was weaned and the mother was no longer producing milk. It's a psychological bonding thing that gets disrupted when they're taken away too soon. 10/30/2020: Since writing this some five months ago, I've adopted a 4-week old kitten we call Zoey who was abandoned by her mom. Zoey sucks on my earlobes. I think of Ben every time she does this. (That sounds odd). Zoey was weaned but should have spent at least another two weeks with her mother and litter mates. I try to redirect her to something other than my ear and she'll move off and "bond" with the corner of my pillow. It's happening less and less so I assume she's growing out of this behavior. It's endearing in a way but also a little annoying at 2:00 am. :)
I've actually had this like trying-to-nurse or recreate that feeling thing with my cat, to the point where he bit my nipple once while I was just loving on him and changing.
My cat is a rescue and until I got another cat he would always lick my thumbs and then slide his face across them! I realized he was trying to get me to “groom” him and that it was more of a nurturing need he had. It decreases a lot when I got another cat, and she literally never does it but he’ll come and do it to me every once and awhile still!
Idk if this applies to dogs, but my rottweiler (who is currently 15) has sucked on a blanket ever since we adopted her, I wonder if she was also weaned to early, but this is really interesting!!
Thank you so much for telling the "we accidentally shut Menchie in the fridge" story. I recently adopted a kitten and did the same thing. I felt so bad, and guilty. Now I realize that it could have happened to anybody. He's fine btw, I named him Phantom.
I feel lke that's a thing a lot of cat owners go through at least once, or even closing the fridge door and accidentally getting the baby's paw in between. When I was younger my baby cat ALSO went inside the fridge and ALSO felt so bad about it 😭
My 2 kittens are so nosy around the fridge. I haven't shut either in yet and I try to be mindful but it may happen someday. Mistakes happen and it's okay, kitty wasn't hurt you learned to keep an eye out, so it's okay!
I've never accidentally got mine in the fridge, but he used to love sleeping in the clothes drawers and linen closet. Occasionally he'd get shut in the drawer but he's very loud so we'd pretty much instantly notice.
Cristine’s smile when she spoke about how their tabs fed 700 healthcare workers almost brought me to tears. You can tell that she has such a loving heart. ❤️
I remember one time when I had a really bad anxiety attack, I sat on the floor hyperventilating, crying and yelling. One of my cats came running and was really worried and started licking my tears like Menchie did with Cristine 😭❤️
my cat is so smart. if i'm upset (not even crying) or having a panic/anxiety attack my cat will walk all over me and not leave me alone until i pet her enough to calm me down
Title: talking about our cats for a hour straight Me: now that sounds like something I want to watch! Edit: Thank you so much for 950+ likes it's the most I've ever got!! ❤️
Yeah! My sister jokingly sent me a picture of a house but half of it is just transformed into a giant bird cage but little does she know, that's my dream house!
I can't recommend enough: go to an allergologist , I used to have severe allergies - as in 100x the normal value - to both pollen and dust mites. I took a vaccine especially made for me for 3 years and now I have almost no allergies. The relief of not constantly have difficulties breathing and eczema in my hands is priceless.
We inherited my grandma's cat when she moved in with us and eventually passed away. He's the sweetest cat I've ever met. When I was still living with my parents and would come home from work he would always be at the door shaking his tail and meowing for me to pet him. Which was a weird quirk haha, but cats do show affection sometimes.
Cats can be super affectionate! Both are lovely and in my experience I have had to earn the love of my rescue dog. Even though dogs are typically more outwardly affectionate, the love that allows them to trust you when they are afraid or feeling unwell comes with time. They do feel more inclined to be with you to begin with, because they are pack animals and have a strong family structure in their nature. Love from a pet is always earned, even though that love is expressed differently than affection. Its kinda funny though my dog is much more aloof towards me now compared to when she was a puppy, but I can tell that she loves me more and trusts me.
I love how y'all pointed out how Menchie knows when y'all are in pain and actually cares. A lot of the time cats get a bad rep as being heartless and not caring about their owners, but honestly, that's not the case. I used to get really bad stomach aches when I was younger that I would just lay down, curl up in a ball and cry, my old cat would curl up in the little space in between my chest and my legs and just start purring because she knew something was wrong. When I start crying around my dogs, which I love to death, they just go "sooo... you wanna play??"
My current cats couldn’t care less when I’m in pain, but the cat I had when I was a kid would hear me crying from whatever reason and be concerned and try to comfort me
I think cats have the same understanding of us talking like we have with their meowing. Sometimes you know they want food or cuddling or go outside depending on the way/tone they meow and I think it's the same with us speaking to them.
ugh my husband is allergic to cats. Unfortunately he's so allergic to them that we agreed that my two cats that I already had were going to be our last. And then I got hit with a double whammy of both of them dying within 2 months of each other. One of them was my childhood cat who lived to be 19. I rescued him when he was 2 weeks old. I had to bottle feed him, ween him, and clean him. He was my baby. He lived a big full life and I feel super fulfilled that I gave that good boy a good life. However... My other boy was only 13 when he died. It was very unexpected (cancer) and I'm still super sad about it. We weren't expecting him to die so young because he was so healthy all the way up to about a week or 2 before he died. I mourn the loss of having cats every day :(
I can't imagine losing cats you've had for so long. Mine died 2 weeks ago at 5 years old and I still find it so hard to cope. I think it's self-torture to watch this podcast. :( I hope you're doing okay now.
@@claudettecledera9927 I'm so sorry for your loss. It's hard losing animals. It's such an unconditional love. I'm doing alright. We are able to have dogs. It's not the same, but they are good companions. I've gotten into house plants too. That also helps.
That's great to know! I find it amazing how total strangers on the internet can bond over their love for animals in Cristine's videos. ❤ Now that I've finished watching and reading comments I feel comforted. A friend told me that our pets who passed away would've wanted us to give our love and attention to other animals who need us too.
I’m sorry for your loss😞😢 We lost 3 dogs in one yr a few yrs back and it was really rough. One was our 14yr old Golden retriever/lab mix who was also my self trained service dog. She was healthy until the last 2 months of her life when the cancer appeared. She had just got to the point we were having to consider ending her suffering when she passed in her sleep the next night. I miss her so much.😞 As far as the other two(both Pomeranians)one died from a seizure disorder they had developed in the last year which was apparently genetic (she was 9yrs old). And the other had a heart attack at age 11. Which after an autopsy the vet found he had a serious birth defect in his heart. We knew he had a murmur but as he had no other symptoms we didn’t investigate it further. 😕😞 We have a 14yr old Pomeranian right now and I dread the day he passes so much. But at least we will know he lived a full happy spoiled life. We also have an 4yr old Shepard mix(who I’m training to do the same tasks as my previous dog) & 2 tiny (5lbs & 7lbs) 3yr old terrier mixes who know some tricks but are mainly just little furry lap warmers😂. Hopefully they will all live long healthy lives...but you never know. Just like with people..cancer & other illnesses can appear suddenly without warning. I just wish our pets could tell us how they felt so we could catch & try to treat things sooner. 😕 They instinctively hide any sign of weakness as showing such signs in the wild would attract predators. Well...most do. My 14yr old Pom is so dramatic about nearly ANY discomfort he is feeling that once we thought he had something seriously wrong & rushes him to the vet and...the ONLY thing they could find wrong with him was mild irritation in his throat! (Likely from barking so much) Sprayed some numbing spray down his throat & within minutes he was back to his bouncy self. 🙄🙄🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ Thankfully the vet found it hilarious & didn’t charge us for the visit. Damn drama king😒😒But we love him
My mom is in the middle of divorcing my abusive father and my sister took in my mom’s cat, TuxedoCat (yes, that is her name) because there are no pets allowed at her new apartment. My sister and my mom were meeting at a predetermined location for a job but my mom was about to leave and saw Tux on her porch! She thought it was strange, why would my sister come to her apartment, why did she bring her cat, why did she just let it out of the car to roam. So my mom opened the door and the cat just walked in like she owned the place. But then my mom looked around outside and my sister was no where to be found. Tux starting drinking out of the toilet so my mom rushed to grab her and realized it was in fact NOT Tuxy. So my mom opened the door and the cat trotted out the door and down the sidewalk😂 she was so confused.
@@leahbelieva What an emotional rollercoaster. Send your mother and sister my respects, it takes some strong ass women to get themselves out of that kind of situation!
I made a “catio” for one of my cats. He is adopted and I think he was a street cat before then bc he used to dart for the door every time we would open it to get out. Since I made the catio he is happier inside and doesn’t try to escape the house.
Cat fact: Cats are known to crepescula. That means they are most often active at dawn and again at dusk. Sleeping for the most part throughout the day to conserve energy. You’ll have to ask cats to explain the 3am zoomies though
This is off topic but if you read this cristine, I would like you to know that I did the workout you did yesterday. I saw it in your snapchat story, just pure gold!
CW: actually giving up on a sick kitten Something similar to what happened with Menchie happened to my mom and the kitten she'd adopted last July. I don't live with them anymore thankfully, but it means I wasn't there, so I don't know exactly how it went down that my mom realized she wasn't ok, but it was this January or February. She told me she was taking the kitten to the vet, and the vet did some basic tests, and said that further care would be like 800$ or something, (she's texting me all the updates as it's happening), and before I can tell her about ways to come up with the money (I was going to tell her how easily the story of a sick 9 month old kitten would gather support on gofundme, because let's face it, it totally would), she told me she just told them to euthanize her. She didn't even try to think of a way to come up with the money. I mean, once I told her about what she COULD'VE done, she regretted it, and regretted not taking the kitten for physicals, taking any of the animals for physicals, not having pet insurance, all the things I brought up after the fact, but it still hurt so much to think how quickly she just gave up on the life of that 9 month old kitten. I never even met the kitten, but just thinking about how much life she had ahead of her, how she was just a baby, it makes me so sad to think about. RIP baby Tosca :( I'm so glad that you didn't give up on Menchie and figured out how to get her to the life she deserves
I saw this on a t-shirt once and always remembered it "Dogs come when called, cats take a message and get back to you later." This is always how I felt my cats think most of the time. But I still love them.
Not all dogs love humans. My auntie’s dog hates me but my Grandma’s dog loves me so it depends on the person and the experiences the dog has had with the person.
Yeah, as much as people think otherwise you DO have to earn a dogs love, trust, and respect. You have to watch your tone, spend lots of time with them, and show them respect. Otherwise, all dogs would be 'perfectly' behaved.
Same with cats too. My parents got a cat together (it was a rescue that mom treated while working at her old pet clinic) and the cat hated my dad but loved my sister. The cat would sit on the back of the couch and smack my dad on the head but would let my sister drag him around by the tail. Animals will pick and choose who they like
Yup, we've accidentally trapped our cat in the fridge, had no idea until hearing MOW WOW WOWOWOWOW. And yet she still tries to get in every time we open the fridge.
On the outdoor cat comment: Having a rescue cat that was a stray, we had no real option, that was the life she knew and would not settle inside. It took 8 months of having her indoors and her getting horribly upset and unsettled for us to realise that we'd stripped her of everything she knew. We've had a few close calls with her but at 7 years old this year she's absolutely fine. I completely understand your position, and if I were (when I get!) to get a cat on my own then I would have an indoor cat as I live in the city. But my parents live in the countryside, (they even moved the cat to the other side of the country!) and she is routinely vaccinated, dewormed and get de-flea treatments. She comes home 3 or 4 times a day to check in with us, and sleeps in my bed at night with me! Wouldn't normally write such a long comment but I genuinely feel like (in the rural parts of the UK at least) there is a culture of letting cats outside, knowing that they will roam and be free. But also that they love us and will come home for food, comfort and safety. The cities are different, and other countries will be different too but the dismissal of 'bad cat owners' is really upsetting for a lot of cat owners! Still glad to hear that you have an opinion and that it is based on the cats best interest, but I do think some acknowledgement is needed, that just because you let your cat outside doesn't make you any worse or better of a cat owner.
Exactly! I have two cats, a brother and a sister. We live in the Finnish countryside with our closest neighbours 200 meters away, almost no traffic and a horse farm nearby. They love being outdoors and they always come home at night to spend time with me and my husband. They are neutered, very affectionate, well behaved to our guests, and we even taught one of them a bunch of "dog tricks". We regularly check up on their health. I couldn't imagine keeping them inside all day, robbing them of their sunny naps in tall grass and independency to roam freely. On the contrary I'm having a hard time understanding city cats that are indoors all day, but I understand that if a cat is raised that way and gets lots of affection and stimulation they can be happy. I admire Cristine and Ben a lot and can see that they are wonderful cat parents, but was a bit shocked about their judgmental thoughts in this specific area...
I’m so glad you commented this too! I’m also in the UK and it hurts to hear such a sweeping statement that letting cats outside is bad. I don’t live in the city and most of our neighbourhoods have cats that are all allowed outside, and they are all happy and healthy! I’m beginning to understand their argument, but if I heard someone here tell me they didn’t let their cat out I’d probably feel quite sorry for the cat.
Glad to see other people saying this! Definitely upset me a little tbh I love my cat and she knows where her home is and always comes back! Most time shes been out for was 2 days then she turned up back home with a squirrel almost bigger than her for tea! I think it does depend on the cat though as some aren't very wild and wouldn't do well outside but if you have an active and feisty cat I think its definitely best to let them use that energy on hunting and playing outside
french countryside here, i adopted my cat from the street (she was apparently abandoned when someone a couple houses over moved out), she's partly outdoors but since we don't have a cat door, i kinda police if/when she can leave and i think she's learnt to check the weather before asking me to open the door bc i won't let her go if it's raining or too cold/windy. when she's out it's from a dozen minutes (because i guess pooping in the vineyards >>> litter box) to a couple hours on normal days and she's usually back inside before night. only a couple times in the 2 and a half years since she moved in did she not sleep home and each time it was in the middle of summer with super clear and hot weather and the only time it lasted more than 24 hours, she still would show up on our terrace or the neighbour's yard but just refused to get in?? anyway she's getting used to the indoors life and doesn't scream at the door or try to rush out of it half as much as she used to but she still wants to enjoy some chilling in the grass at times.
it’s the same with my cats. while we do live in suburbia now, we didn’t when we first got them and prior to having them they grew up outside, we thought it would be unfair to not let them live in the environment they grew up in and understood best and even when we did try to transition them into being only indoor cats they weren’t happy at all regardless of the enrichment we gave them while they were inside with us. however since they’ve gotten older they prefer to stay inside more which is definitely nice. and we try to be as responsible as we could be: collars with bells, only letting them out during the day and calling them in at night, microchips, vaccinations, spay/neutering but like i said now that they’re becoming more senior they’re spending most of their time on someone’s bed sleeping than being outside.
two important things for everyone to learn: 1. As a cat foster myself, you don't need to only foster kittens! I've fostered adult cats for over a year now, and there are many adult cats in need of foster homes. Many rescues operate exclusively out of foster homes. Even if they have a physical shelter, by fostering a cat you are allowing another to take its place in the shelter, therefore saving TWO lives. 😊 Make sure you contact your local rescues for more information if you're genuinely interested! I found mine through Petfinder. 2. I have my own cat and while I understand the concerns, it is possible to foster and keep your own cats at the same time. My personal cat is super grumpy and not the most friendly with other cats. As long as you have a separate room with a door that you can close and a litter box/food/water for the foster, you can keep them separate without too much hassle. (maybe doesn't work if Zyler can open doors though 😂)
I got a cat during university as I had just started living by myself and was suffering from depression and anxiety. I have found that my cat has really helped me a lot emotionally, especially during fourth year. I am on a gap year now and I got a second cat as a friend for my first. I am really pleased with how well they get on. They play, cuddle and clean one another it is so cute.
“And we moved a lot actually” Zyler: on the run. That confidence thing is so true. My fiancé had never had a cat before and he was super nervous picking her up at first and she would meow and want to be put down immediately but now he’s more comfortable and confident and so is she. Also you can train them in certain ways. I trained my cat not to touch the xmas tree by wrapping the bottom in foil and spritzing with water and shaking a jar of coins the first year and every year since she doesn’t go near it.
I had to do the same thing. Instead of coins I would squeeze a water bottle. I don't recommended this tho because every time a water bottle pops or squeezes he freaks out. I have my cat PTSD. :(
I wish this had worked for me. My cat LOVES to scratch the furniture and no matter how many times I sprayed him or what I used to wrap the furniture he still found a way to do so. 🤦🏻♀️ He couldn’t care less about the Christmas tree so I count that as a win. 🤣
I think it would still work. Mine bow lays under the tree and looks forward to it. He knows the day after Thanksgiving is decorating day. He scratches at the closet and will sit on the boxes as I work. Tree mist go up first and I have to out the lights up before I do any other decorating so he has a nice warm spit to lay while he watches us. Haha
I know this is forever old 😅 But I just wanted to give some input on Menchie's aloofness about other humans and socialising. We got two sisters as kittens, and their personalities couldn't be more different. Tika loved EVERYONE, she came to say hi to anyone who stepped in the door, wether it was an old friend or an electrician 😂 But Talwen has always been a timid cat, when our best friends who we've been friends with for a decade is over it'll take her 2-3 hours to come out to say hi. So they both was socialised a lot as kittens, the exact same amount, but that's just their different personalities! We lost Tika in March 💔So now we are debating wether to get another third cat (we have Talwen and our fosterfail Myra, we've had Talwen for 13 years and Myra for 9 years), because Talwen and Myra don't care about each other and I worry they are lonely. They aren't aggresive towards each other; they just don't care about each other. Tika was their glue. So we are considering to get a kitten that hopefully will befriend at least one of them.
I’ve adopted a cat that had been dropped off at the shelter twice. When I get home he always is waiting for me and is “shaking” his tail when I call his name or pet him
I live in village, my house is surrounded with a meadow on three sides, my street has only 3 more houses after mine before the street ends. And my cats are outside all the time, they have their spaces all around the house and even inside but they just don’t want to be inside. During winter they come in to sleep infront of fireplace but during summer... not a chance. I let them be outside because I know they’re safe, we have a great relationship and they come as soon as I call them and they sleep every night on my balcony where I also feed them and they have all their cat houses and beds. During winter they’ll happily sleep inside but once the snow is gone, they just want to hunt and play in grass
Very similar situation here but we live in a town. I can’t imagine keeping my cats inside all the time - they would hate it and fight with each other as a result of being bored. I’ve never heard people saying that it’s irresponsible to keep cats indoors before... I’m British so maybe it’s a cultural difference..?
@@Sophiesmakeupbag It is, the Americans and Canadians tend to keep them indoors. To be fair, their wildlife and wilderness has traditionally been a lot more likely to give a cat trouble. In Britain, the RSPCA straight up won't let you adopt a cat as an indoor one unless it has a health issue that requires it, such as Feline HIV, as its seen as lowering their quality of life.
@@Sophiesmakeupbag I live in the Netherlands and there's a lot of outdoor cats here as well. A while back research was published showing that outdoor cats do a lot of damage to the environment, killing certain species or birds that are already endangered due to extensive mowing and climate change. Also our neighbour has a cat and before we got a dog, it would poop (a lot!!) in our garden, try to attack our rabbits (which were in a pen the cat couldn't get into) and kill the birds trying to get food from the seedthingies we put up to help birds during wintertime. It's part of our culture, but when you really consider everything, it is a little weird. We don't let any other species of animals just roam free, even if they would come back or survive on their own just fine. I'd say it's downright irresponsible when you live in an urban area with loads of traffic and neighbours, but a bit risky at worst when you live in a secluded area with no real threats.
I do think it's a cultural thing. I live in a town in Belgium and I don't know anyone who keeps their cats inside (unless it's a special breed or something) but keeping my cats inside would drive them nuts. We once had to keep one inside during summer because she had a wound at her tail that wouldn't heal and she hated it! She was absolutely miserable. It seems like they are just so much happier when they can go out. They sleep inside in the winter but sometimes they just want to stay out. Animals are part of nature so in my opinion they deserve to go outside. But for health issues, breed or dangerous environments I understand that some people can keep them in the house.
Simplypodlogical. This is what gets people through. Plus I love how Cristine always dances in the intro. And it's such a good thing that you've paid for the meals of health care workers. Every other TH-camr would be like 'Who wants a mac book?!'. vs Cristine and Ben 'Who wants free tuition.' or 'Do any health care workers in Ottowa want a free meal.' It's amazing. 😂💗
I live in a rural area and “barn cats” are extremely common. Our shelter offers feral cats for these situations. As well “mousers” are needed and many house cats go out during the day and control the rodent population. BUT I myself keep mine inside because I live on a semi busy street and want to keep my babies safe.
In Ireland it is common to have cats live more outside and dogs usually live inside and go on walks. We dont really have large cities so I suppose it might be very different.
Yeah same here in Germany. In big cities where people don't have private gardens and live on busy streets, cats usually live indoors. But in more rural areas they go outside to some extent.
In Britain and cats run around their streets all the time. I've known some cats who have specific times that they want to go out, makes it very fun to walk home after school :)
For context before I tell this story, I have been diagnosed with Panic Disorder like a year ago and have been prone to intense panic attacks for years. I have never trained my cat to do this, but when she senses a change in my behaviour / emotional state, she comes running into my room and starts cuddling me until I am reeally calm. Sometimes I start dissociating while I'm having a panic attack and start breathing heavily, and my cat will bring me back to reality by touching my face and forces me to pet her until my breathing settles down. She has stopped many huge panic attacks and I don't know what I would do without her, she saves my life on a daily basis.
It's very interesting to see how the discussion on keeping cats indoors or outdoors varies from culture and living situation. In Switzerland for example people are highly discouraged to keep indoor cats. People who have to keep the cats indoors try to foster cats with autoimmune disorders or other disabilities that wont allow them to go outside anyways. But Switzerland is in general very rural.
It's problematic everywhere in the world because cats are mass murders and murder for fun regardless of they are hungry or not. They're actually endangering some birds
Yeah I thought the same. In Germany most cats go outside and shelters encourage people to let their cats outside (we only could get our cats if they were able to go outside). But also we don't have bears or so :D
When my family first wanted to get a cat, we went to the humane society and promptly fell in love with two separate cats. Then we found out they were sisters and casually decided to get both. I love my little beans
My fiance and I moved to a house a year ago. There are so many stray feral cats around, and I've never seen cats that avoid people this much. We finally, after months of leaving food out and trying to make friends, have an outdoor kitty friend! He went from being totally feral to wanting to be with us all the time. My fiance is allergic or we'd let him in in a heartbeat.
I adopted my two adorable cats, from PetCo they’re twins, they are 5 years old now and we got them for 3 years ago. I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
When you talked about how they know if they do something wrong, it’s really relatable for me and my cat. My cat isn’t allowed on the kitchen counters, and sometimes I’ll walk in on him on the counter, and before I even say anything he will get off of the counter and it’s really funny, because he knows that he’s not allowed on there.
The bowls of my cats go under the kitchen table, one of my cats always jump on the sink to see if we left something there or lick the dishes if we're not looking. The moment we get to the kitchen door she jumps off the sink and calmly starts eating from her bowl as if she was just eating her food all along.
Cristine!! You keep saying you only had mango the one cat but there are 2 cats in the photo you show of you holding mango as a baby...who is the cat behind you to the right???!!!!
I remember adopting my cat. When i walked in the cat room at the shelter every cat had their paws sticking out and meowing begging for attention except this black cat. She was tiny and cowering in the back of her cage. The people at the shelter said she’s hates EVERYTHING and that’s when I knew she was perfect😹😻
Hey guys!! I just wanted to say that my vet once informed me that the little bell on their collars can be very irritating for the cats (imagine hearing a bell everytime you move 24/7). Have they ever seemed bothered by it? I did remove the one my kitten wears
So I’ve never followed simplynailogical (knew of you guys), but I have binged every single podcast over this past week. I truly appreciate your guy’s perspective, intelligence, and stories. You have a new fan. Also I’m 80% here just for Menchie and Zyler. Those who are only listening are truly missing out.
In an Asian family: 15 year old me: Mom, can we get a pet, please? I'll be responsible~! Mom: NO! They make messes and cost more money~! 15 year old me: *Got a hedgehog anyway* Mom: WTF?? adhsdjsjfkdsvxfk Now... Mom: Let's get a dog... So when you're away in college, they'll just replace you in the family photos! Me: WTF mom?? Mom: Hey,,, I'm getting old and I need a young child to spoil, okay?
I have a cat who we've had since she was a baby. She's about 5 now and is definitely an outdoor cat. We live in a small town in California, but it's definitely not rural or urban. She has made herself somewhat independent but also has learned not to stray off of our side of the block (it spans about 4 houses), and is only let out during the day. Sometimes if she’s still out after sunset, I take my dog on a night walk and she will walk right next to me until we reach the corner block and then waits in the nearby bushes until we come back. There are days when she will spend all day sleeping in her kitty condo inside, and others she could be out for hours. We don't worry much because she always comes back from her adventures and she's also been chipped. I’ve been a cat owner since I was a kid (I’ve had 4 total), and I learned that there are some cats who are able to hold there own for a while outside without supervision, but it all comes down to where you live. Side note - I found out last year that she would visit the house next door that gets rented out by culinary students because they left a bag of cat treats on the porch with a note saying they loved seeing her because it reminded them of their cats back home.
Y'all are awesome pet parents!!! Thinking of the dynamic between your babies and choosing not to adopt another cat because the dynamic is perfect is such a responsible thing to do. I just wanted to applaud you for that. I made my husband and son week for the dynamic to be good to adopt our puppy and kitten. I'm not going back on anything I did because I plan to carefully and we now have a puppy and kitten who are best friends and our older cat has plenty of space to feel comfortable and protected even though he isn't the biggest fan of the babies He is not hostile towards them and he is beginning to take to the puppy quite a bit.

You know bens a keeper when hes allergic to cats and you have two.

My dad is allergic to cats and we have three

My grandparents once buried a random cat that they thought was theirs 🤷♀️ (had no owner and most likely came from the neighbouring farm).
Who wouldn’t want to listen to them talking about their cats for an hour 😍

Eva Gu We can all picture this perfectly 😂
That's very interesting
I now understand. It will be a worthy information when I adopt in the near future. Thank you for that. 💓
Our cat likes to hop into the linen closet (makes sense) when the kids leave the door open. But then somebody will inevitable close him in there.
I accidentally dropped a screwdriver on my cats head and I cried for an hour. He jumped up on my legs and startled me.

Her smile omg just made my day.

My current cats couldn’t care less when I’m in pain, but the cat I had when I was a kid would hear me crying from whatever reason and be concerned and try to comfort me
My cat knew when I didn’t feel well or couldn’t sleep well so she would lay on top of me till she felt like I was comforted. She was the best.
I mourn the loss of having cats every day :(
I just started crying, I'm so sorry
We have a 14yr old Pomeranian right now and I dread the day he passes so much. Damn drama king😒😒But we love him
i don’t know why, but i lost it at the story of a random orange cat being put inside the house

CW: actually giving up on a sick kitten
Something similar to what happened with Menchie happened to my mom and the kitten she'd adopted last July. RIP baby Tosca :(
I'm so glad that you didn't give up on Menchie and figured out how to get her to the life she deserves

Animals will pick and choose who they like
Menchie and Zyler are the only beings keeping me sane Cristine, please help.
Yup, we've accidentally trapped our cat in the fridge, had no idea until hearing MOW WOW WOWOWOWOW.
And yet she still tries to get in every time we open the fridge.
WHY DOES BEN HAVE SUCH A SOOTHING VOICE OMFG
On the outdoor cat comment:
Having a rescue cat that was a stray, we had no real option, that was the life she knew and would not settle inside.
I think it does depend on the cat though as some aren't very wild and wouldn't do well outside but if you have an active and feisty cat I think its definitely best to let them use that energy on hunting and playing outside
french countryside here, i adopted my cat from the street (she was apparently abandoned when someone a couple houses over moved out), she's partly outdoors but since we don't have a cat door, i kinda police if/when she can leave and i think she's learnt to check the weather before asking me to open the door bc i won't let her go if it's raining or too cold/windy. when she's out it's from a dozen minutes (because i guess pooping in the vineyards >>> litter box) to a couple hours on normal days and she's usually back inside before night.
only a couple times in the 2 and a half years since she moved in did she not sleep home and each time it was in the middle of summer with super clear and hot weather and the only time it lasted more than 24 hours, she still would show up on our terrace or the neighbour's yard but just refused to get in?? anyway she's getting used to the indoors life and doesn't scream at the door or try to rush out of it half as much as she used to but she still wants to enjoy some chilling in the grass at times.
it’s the same with my cats. while we do live in suburbia now, we didn’t when we first got them and prior to having them they grew up outside, we thought it would be unfair to not let them live in the environment they grew up in and understood best and even when we did try to transition them into being only indoor cats they weren’t happy at all regardless of the enrichment we gave them while they were inside with us. however since they’ve gotten older they prefer to stay inside more which is definitely nice. and we try to be as responsible as we could be: collars with bells, only letting them out during the day and calling them in at night, microchips, vaccinations, spay/neutering but like i said now that they’re becoming more senior they’re spending most of their time on someone’s bed sleeping than being outside.
two important things for everyone to learn:
I read this as "As a foster cat myself" and I was genuinely confused 😂

While Ben says "Z" as zed, Cristine says zee. IS SHE REALLY CANADIAN??????
[the X-files opening theme plays in a distance]
I got a cat during university as I had just started living by myself and was suffering from depression and anxiety. I have found that my cat has really helped me a lot emotionally, especially during fourth year. I am on a gap year now and I got a second cat as a friend for my first. I am really pleased with how well they get on. They play, cuddle and clean one another it is so cute.
Cristine: “Zyler your as annoying as an ad.”
TH-cam: “OOO THATS A GOOD TRANSITION FOR AN AD THANKS CRISTINE!!”
Cristine actually places the ads herself, since the video is over 10 minutes. So props to her :)
I’m in love with zyler, it’s so cool that he’s been around for so long
“And we moved a lot actually” Zyler: on the run.
I never tried shaking a jar of coins, now that he’s a year old you think it would still work?
I think it would still work. Mine bow lays under the tree and looks forward to it. He knows the day after Thanksgiving is decorating day. He scratches at the closet and will sit on the boxes as I work. Tree mist go up first and I have to out the lights up before I do any other decorating so he has a nice warm spit to lay while he watches us. Haha
My cat pulled the Christmas tree on her own head the first year and just never did it again
Menchie jumps in the fridge cos you gotta keep frozen yoghurt cool
Also: Shibas are very cat-like in the "you gotta earn the affection" and being very independant! We have a shiba too for this very reason 😅
When Ben called the lion king “Mustafa” I lost it 😹😹😹
“Zyler is actually a little more needy than Menchie” *zyler walks across table* hmmmm never woulda guessed 😂

In Australia, cats tend to be indoor, especially at night, to protect them from harming the local wildlife unless they’re strays.

Yea like my first cat was a stray he came to us and we took him dogs are more in shelters not stray
Yeah I’m from Northern Ireland and I don’t think I know anyone who has specifically indoor cats
In Britain and cats run around their streets all the time. I've known some cats who have specific times that they want to go out, makes it very fun to walk home after school :)
same in italy
Yeah I find it interesting too. I live in Sweden and the norm is usually to keep your cats outside unless you live in a big city.
@@liriosogno6762 are you serious? :D

“zyler knows how to open doors, wich has been an issue sonetimes”
-Ben, 2020
If I walk in to my cat on the kitchen counters he stares at me like "whatcha gonna do about it???"
Cristine!! You keep saying you only had mango the one cat but there are 2 cats in the photo you show of you holding mango as a baby...who is the cat behind you to the right???!!!!
probably Mango’s mother!!
Plot twist: Ben's parents knew he was allergic to animals.

In my country (the Netherlands) its normal to have an outside cat. Its less normal to have an insite one.
Cried when you were talking about Menchie and Zyler's medical issues ;( You guys are amazing parents!
