The eminent panel has put forth very relevant issues that need to be addressed. But they are very heavily biased towards the benefits of war equipment technology, electronic/cyber warfare. Totally agree with that, but they miss a point. The soldier behind the weapon is the most critical factor, and that is where I feel India has proven advantage over the Chinese soldier, whose motivation and commitment to die for the country is not proven. The perception is that the Chinese soldier is a sissy, since all or most of them are single children of their parents, and the Chinese place great importance towards their offsprings and carrying forward the family, much like Indians.

One should consider that argument that India is actually one of the largest and first "victims" of China's economic warfare on the world. The economic meltdowns of countries like Sri Lanka are mere after effects. India's trade deficit with China is essentially funding CPEC and much of the cost of the PLA's military adventures all along the LAC.

The reason Chinese viewed us as slaves because Indians were treated as great civilization but the first interaction between Indians and Chinese happened when we were used as instrument of British power to subjugate China. Opium wars were fought using Indian personnel and that led to complete humiliation of Chinese. This is Chinese psyche and that guides them to think that Indians will be used against them similarly. You must understand it in it's entirety. N

I agree with Prof. Karnad that India has to stop importing Chinese products. And I have come across enough defence guys, exactly like Pannu, who look smart, talk smooth, but actually are pretty clueless , viz a viz, defence strategy. Anyone who knows these high level army people knows just how much corruption has always existed/still exists within the Defence establishment at every level. Vested interests are everywhere and it's really sad. To borrow a Chinese saying, the fish rots from the head. I am tired of middle & upper class Indians saying that the poor people or the junior ranks are so corrupt, but they themselves are the first to give & take bribes, cut corners, break laws and sell the country down the drain.

Dr.Bharat Karnad is right we should have to shift our focus toward China.
Deal with it in a way China understands.
I have seen most of his interviews.
He talked with the honesty he has towards his job.
Sorry if our think tanks are not giving any honest advice to the government so what kind of job they are doing?
In Cyber warfare we are also lacking.
We have to be aggressive to handle China.
Taiwan is handling the China Cyber attacks for a long.
    We should learn from them.
Anything which is the need of the moment for our country should be said and done by the government.
If we don't play our role towards this nation then we will not exist .

The best deterrent against China? Deploying 500: fission and boosted fission weapons made with reactor grade plutonium with thermal bridges to have sufficient fission materials. And load them in ballistic cruise missiles like K-4 and B05 with manoeuvring capability as well as super fast Agni-5 and then supersonic cruise missiles like Brahmos. MASS swarming precision attacks would be very hard to intercept.
A well-trained and tightly managed as well as nimble nuclear strike force with an updated nuclear strike policy with threshold levels to back out of the no-first-use policy NEEDS to be published.
But DEFT diplomacy is also critical with public relations and communication experts to mitigate tensions. It's showing the ability to inflict economic losses and military attrition but also the sanity to use diplomacy effectively.

Points made by Prof regarding trade and commerce wrt China makes perfect sense but Decoupling will take time. It's like Indian manufacturers have been abandoned or rather policies (remember CPC and INC agreement) were made to profit Imports from China rather than produce locally. And suddenly banning everything from China overnight may adversely impact not just Importers in India also people directly and indirectly employed e.g. transporters, retailers, etc. Aatm Nirbahar is all about reducing the trade deficit with China. Change will be slow and gradual. You don't expect 9 ladies to deliver a baby in 1 month. Any sudden change or rather knee jerk reaction will impact the govt. in due course of time. Prof. won't be going in Public to ask for votes. Will he? Prof. won't face the public it's the govt. that has to. So change will be gradual and will be driven by people with initiatives like vocal for local.

I think India must first decide what she wants and how she wants to go about it before trying to accommodate the Chinese Plans. To understand the Chinese Plans you first need to understand how the Chinese think which is the real challenge because most foreigners try to impost their thinking over the Chinese, which is the source of most misunderstanding. This
illustrates the lack of proper planning which the Chinese appear to pay better attention to other nations who tend to assume too much to the detriment of accurate assessment. The Japanese and Chinese pay more attention to details, especially to the peculiarities from language difference, as opposed to the West whose tendency is to assume, their comprehension is more than adequate despite not knowing the other language. Few Westerners are prepared to acknowledge that this is an inadequacy to better overall understanding. To a degree, this attitude has risen historically by the past military dominance of the West, and to a lesser
degree by Indians because of their association with the West. So now you can better understand the effectiveness of the tenure of the subject these participants are contributing to the discussion. What you say is not interpreted by the audience to what you mean, then you shouldn’t expect that their response will not be what you want.
The subtleties of language are so critical to translate the intricacies of human thought that it is no longer possible to ignore when all parties possess similar levels of importance. The days of dominance of one party over others are long gone. Power resides in knowledge and political and economic influences are today, regulated by knowledge. However, habits are difficult to break and with people with inflated egos, their capability to change is minimal. Most conflicts are issues of attitudes from flawed perceptions. Knowing another language is the initial step to overcome the impediment of understanding.
