Thank you for sharing your knowledge of CB's. I am getting into amateur radio, but am very interested in Citizen's Band also. I remember my dad being in a CB club back in the 70's. To me, every available means of communication is valuable in a crisis. Thanks again!
You talk a lot of good sence there, its good to see some one is on the ball. A good informative video. As for the export radios, most if not all of them do not need a technician to get in the radio to get it to work on 27Mhz as they as programmable. As is my Anytone AT-5555.
I use to have a cobra 29Ltd classic with an antron 99 base antenna and I was talking cross country 24/7 and loved it I wasn't running any extra power and I was talking to people back east and up to Oregon and Washington and Montana and I am in California my radio was dead keying 4 watts swinging to 28 watts on a mobile radio with power supply on a base antenna
Good info. However, let me add that the heart of any communications system is the antenna system. A properly installed efficient antenna is much more important than how much power the radio puts out. A good antenna will put out a 4 watt signal much further than a cheap antenna with a 400 watt radio.
If you mean by "a tunup" cranking the modulation pot over against the stop, ask yourself this "Do I think I can do a better job than the factory alignment tech who is sitting in front of $200,000 worth of test equipment?" Trust me, the factory engineers are not that stupid. I love it though. I think everyone that owns a cb needs a plastic alignment tool. That way my shop stays full all the time! It's part of the "Radio Technician full employment act" you know :)
Mobile radios make the best base stations. Get a nice 20 or 30 amp power supply, depending on the wattage of your radidio, and now you've eliminated having transformer problems. Don't be scared, pump it up. Run an amplifier and hammer some heads. The FCC never popped me or any of my friends for running kilowatts .I used to run a couple of kilowatts through a 5 element beam and never got hassled.
+Bob Kerbs you will only get hassled if you interefere with neighbors who call and complain or if you interefere with Govt frequencies like airline traffic. Etc.
I am a license radio tech, & Extra class amateur. All is right however you want to adjust the power to the best modulation output. If you adjust the carry power to high you will end up with downward modulation. Hence you will sound like S. Also if you tune to audio output it will match to and amp. There's a lot more involved so beware. Now for the antenna, A good antenna is a must as is the coax the shield is vary important 98% is good, with stranded center, Any questions the Alb cant answer
You name it and I have run it,and I never got in any trouble! Now back when you had to get a license from the FCC I stayed legal! And I quit after every body and their brother was on there in the late 70$or early 80$!But after I got disabled a lot of my friends and family knew that I used to talk on them and each one started giving me first one thing and then the other,I soon had enough stuff to set up my base station and there was a gob of people still talking on them!
Oops, ya caught me! I was typing while watching and posted just before you got to that on the video. Just wanted to make sure that point got made. No offense intended brother! It's like guns and holsters: people buy a $700 carry gun and then put it in a $10 holster!
Kenwood ts590s with wideband mod for cb use 👍100 watts out of the back and solid as houses never blow owned and ran on cb at full power for over 2 years and hasnt missed a beat !!!!
I appreciate the video, I'm currently in progress of getting my T1A license. I do have a question how is that pyramid power converter working for you?? I'm thinking of getting one.
hi I heard you say that a high watt can interfere with your neighors tv or phone but I wanted to know will the standard 4 watt or less work with out interference with neigbors tvs as I live in the city but I guess I can take it up to my camp in the country but would like to hear the weather in my home
Richard Krotec if you are listening, you will never have interference issues. Only when you key will you have interference problems. 4 watts I would not think so. Most people today have cable or satellite anyway. I have never had issues on low wattage.
Really??? I have a Uniden 510 modulating 30 watts with a 3 watt dead key, you just have to know the right tech to get her done, but a 510 is the best compact radio I have ever seen, and I have been in the hobby for 35+ years!
Tim Hood 510 is a good one. I have had radios that show high swing on technicians meters. Understand, a transistor will only put out x amount of power. No one can tune a radio to put out more actual watts than what a transistor is capable of. There are different types of meters. You have RMS,Peak and Peak envelope Power. Just be aware of what u r seeing. And different qualities of meters. And believe me. Many technicians do turn up their meters to show people how great they think they are. 30 watt swing on a s factory radio would be PEP wattage not RMS. Enjoy the hobby.

Those Cobra 142 gtl are nice, been able to use one for a couple days, they have a great receive section and are just nice to listen to

I like everything this guy is saying. It is very informative basic, helpful, and factual. Got to love it.

No he means open the frequency up so say a kenwood ts590s will operate on cb band, i would not use anything less to be honest !!

Lol. I see you did not watch the entire video. I covered that at the end. Thanks for watching. And you are right, antenna is 80 % of the system.

Thanks man.
Best CBs are the older Uniden Grants and Cobra 148 GTLs. The Philippines models that is.
ImageJPEG Phillipine models are highly regarded.

Hi i have one last question what kind of acdc power adaptor cord do you need
for in-home use, because there are deferent kinds
I appreciate the video, I'm currently in progress of getting my T1A license. I do have a question how is that pyramid power converter working for you?? I'm thinking of getting one.
I have had great luck with the Pyramid power supplies.
Just be sure not to get one that is too small.

Sirio gainmaster antenna is excellent but only handles 500watt. Vortex antennas are the finest in the world 10,000 watts handling
12 volts DC? You mean AC...
