Mabton Mayor Rachel Ruelas was caught on camera Thursday night getting into a brawl with citizens at a local restaurant, including Ruben Olivarez, the man who filed the second petition to recall her as mayor.

If you mean sue them in civil court, the likelihood of prevailing is exponentially lower without a police investigation memorialized in a report. But civil court is NOT the only or the proper response to this. A physical assault and battery requires criminal prosecution for which a police report is mandatory. This “officer,” who cherry picks calls to which he will bother responding, based on a third party’s assessment of the situation, was obligated to take a report as close to the event as possible. Because that’s how POLICING works. And I know that firsthand as I began my legal career as an Army MP. In short, shut your trap if you’re blowing bullshit from it.

Which is why he never showed up, and also why he clearly lied about trying to call the number back that dispatch has gave him. All easily obtained phone records once you get lawyers involved. A FOIA request gets ignored a lot in our bureacracy.

It's amazing that the Yakima County Sheriff can pick and choose what calls to respond to. Law enforcement at it's best. The tax payers should defund them for NOT doing their assigned duties.
Outside their jurisdiction. The town has its own police department and so they are not responsible for 911 calls in the town, unless an officer calls for backup. They are actually not allowed to enforce the law unless they see a crime occurring.

We had this happen to a lady living in the middle of nowhere calling 911 during a attempted home invasion and they showed up the next day like it was no big deal .

@maxsands3861 generally yes. Basic rule of thumb, granted not in every case, state police are police. Highway patrol are police with limited jurisdiction, i.e to the highways

To give the mayor some credit, she did attempt to reel in her husband and son, but then her husband grabbed blue shirt guy's arm (0:20). So he was the first to initiate contact. The blue shirt guy then pushed him away, and then all three of them attacked him. Pretty open and shut case of assault.
