I had the best lawyer ever.....My Polish wife who can read and simply found everything on the internet. Twelve years on I now have Polish citizenship....I have always been legal and registered.

I stumbled onto one of your videos probably a year ago. Having a polish background (my grandfather was born in Poland) I decided to watch. Then I decided to watch them all. Now I am actually trying to learn the polish language. Despite the fact it will probably never happen, I dream of visiting or even moving there. Thank you very much and I look forward to your next video.
PS. My grandfather was a US Navy pilot and fought in WW2 and Korea. Then retired and became a teacher. But unfortunately because my dad was in the army and we moved a lot I didn’t get to know him as well as I would have liked.

It's a long process for us, but My wife should be getting her citizenship back. Yea, hopefully this will get done before the end of the year. Anyway thanks for your help! Most of the time was to get all paperwork from my wife.

If your spouse is a Polish citizen, you'll get temporary settlement permit in no time. After two years you can apply for permanent residence, which is practically like citizenship, except you can't vote or work the the army.

US citizens: before you leave or even think of leaving: dig into family archives and check if you have any parents or grandparents born in the EU or EEC (EU plus three further: .no, .is and .ch).
If you find anything, you may have struck a pot if gold: apply for a citizenship of that country, and if approved (laws vary!), you can live and in 30 European countries.

Things may have changed since I went through it 12 years ago, but my trip to the Polish Consulate in LA was completely wasted time. I was told that I didn't need a visa because of Schengen. The fact that a Schengen visa is for three months, and I couldn't apply for a permanent resident visa until I had been in the country six months didn't seem to be a problem for them. I just had to live illegally in Poland for three months.

1. It is not just Ukrainians. Nationals of 6 countries have a shortcut to local labor market: besides Ukraine, Russia, Armenia and few other former Soviet states are covered as well.
2. As for 3 months of paperwork - the term written in the law. This actually is a universal term for any administrative procedure. As someone who have gone through residence permit renewal for myself and my family I can testify that the local authorities have complete disregard for those terms and it can take more than a year to get your application processed.

My narzeczona is Polish, we've got a 6 month old son between us here in the UK (who should be entitled to Polish citizenship automatically). We're planning on getting married at some point and definitely want to relocate to Poland as well. Hopefully it'll be easier for me, although its just that language barrier... i nie wiem wszystkiego 😭

My grandparents came here shortly after World War 2. Our documentation is very limited as they had no official identification to them as everything they had was destroyed. I do have a paper that looked to be an id paper from a determent camp they had and my grandparents intent for citizenship here in the US that places all places they lived in Poland ( and Germany) at that time. I hope to someday visit Poland. My father was the only one NOT born in Poland from his family and he passed away last October never going there.
Also, I know I have family in Poland. I just don't know who they are ( our last name is Czuwara for anyone reading). Do you have anyone in your classes, that has helped with genealogy? Or helping people to find families in Poland that you could do a video on?
Dear VioletButterfly. This is a response from one of my viewers that was somehow removed. He personally contacted me to make sure you got it. Here it is as it was originally posted - "I have nothing to do with genealogy but I know some way to find it out. Google for "My Heritage". Using this portal fullfil your family tree with every family member you are aware of. Don't skip anyone. After that portal will start finding a match with every other user family tree. Once it finds it - it will add ancestors and other family members to your family tree automatically (almost). Of course there's no guarantee as there must be different family tree of different user which somehow connects by roots to your family tree but chances are you will find one. My father is playing with it from years now and I seen it working. Using it we actually found a family living just 20km from us which we were never aware of. And we actually met them 🙂We also found some family in US which probably migrated from Europe during or before WW2. So maybe it's worth a try. All you can loose is some dollars cause the service is not free."
Russell, ty so much for this orientation. I'm planning to move to PL on March with my couple, she's from Warsaw. I'm a US citizen but I am from Puerto Rico. I'd love to know if I will get the same conditions, opportunities, responsibilities and treatment as if I were living in the mainland (US) or if it'll be different because I'm from PR.
Once you get Citizenship or at least work permit you will have the same opportunities as everyone else. Different thing is if you would like here tho. But no one will answer this question until you try by yourself.

in the video looks simple, but to get the Karta pobytu, its taking ages, some cities as wroclaw for example, the process its taking more than 2 years, they need to update all the bureaucracy and tons of papper, for a quick and digital process as sweeden and other countries in EU already done. ( 7 days to get your resident card)
I have several friends (included me) that decided to leave Wroclaw or Poland just because of this. The situation there is getting terrible.
We have 16 voivodships in Poland and the same number of offices where you can apply for a residence card, but you actually have to do it where you live. In fact, the procedures in Wrocław and Gdańsk are the longest. I have the best experience with the office in Krakow - I encourage you to live here where the office is friendlier and the procedures are faster!
Most likely it's because in Wrocław there is heavy influx of immigrants for some reason, and the officials are so much busier than in other places...

I'm non-EU and the company that I was working (which sponsored visas for my family and I) is based in Wrocław, that's why I needed to live there. I visited several places in Poland, and I definitely I love your country. Furthermore, I really wish in the future to return to Poland, but for sure I don't want to live any more in Wrocław. 🙂

Being married to Polish citizen reduces permanent stay requirement from 4 to 2 years in terms of naturalization. Also, EU passed directive in 2004 so EU citizen's family members can travel freely with them :)

I moved to Poland over 20 years ago from the USA. It was a good decision, and I've had a pretty good life here. However, changes in the last 5-6 years (mainly the rule of the nationalist PIS-party), are having me doubt the decision. As an entrepreneur, life is becoming more and more difficult. Taxes on hard-working businessmen are being increased to fund PIS programs, including the recent “Nowy Ład” (new deal). Money is being taken from my pocket to be given to the PIS electorate to keep their votes (500+-free money for pathological familes, the Catholic church (Rydzik), etc.). I can't recommend that anyone consider a permanent move to Poland at this point in time.
I wish, Russell, that some time you'd do a video on this terrible government we have here.
I'll tell you like this. My citizenship is in progress and I know for a fact that I have followers in PiS at multiple levels. Until I'm a citizen I'm going to refrain from getting involved. I will say I'm a pure blooded capitalist, so that should sort of tell you where I lean on social programs. I hear ya.

Switching drivers licenses from US was the hardest. They want a paper from the embassy that doesn't exist. Overall bureaucracy here has beaten me down. Recently, the xenophobia is the getting ridiculous. Otherwise, I love my Poland.

I sent CV ,passport and photo to an immigration lawyer of Poland to apply for a job. For this , I paid few money. They applied and the employer selected me. The lawyer had showed me the work permit partly on WhatsApp. The work permit is okay. The firm said I will have to send 500 Euro to receive the paper based work permit by courier. I agreed to pay this, but suddenly they stopped replying on WhatsApp. What can I do now?
I'd contact another lawyer and explain what happened. He or she could possibly pick up where the other left off. Sorry, friend 😐
