It's so strange that they dubbed his voice for the first Hellboy with David Hyde Pierce then for the sequel David didn't come back and Doug Jones did the voice for Abe Sapien but you'd be hard pressed to tell any real difference between the two. I read that maybe Doug didn't think he could do it but that seems a bit odd for a guy who has been working in film and TV for as long as he has.

Buffy also won two Emmys- for Makeup for Surprise/Innocence and Music Composition for Becoming Part One, both in season two. SMG also got a Golden Globe nomination for acting for season five.
Hilariously, one of its Emmy nominations was for Beer Bad (Hairstyling)- an episode that is often listed as one of the worst in the series.

    • @cristonsloan
      @cristonsloan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

I too at first struggled with giving Joss credit where credit is due nowadays, but then I realised that one can separate the Art from the Man.
Also, no-one is perfect and, if we're honest with ourselves, we've all done things to someone else that are most likely just as bad. Sometimes this happens as a subconscious reaction brought about by bad past experiences to which we ourselves were unfairly subjected, causing us to act in ways that we later come to abhor and deeply regret.
So I am willing to extend as much forgiveness and understanding to someone else as I hope others would extend to me were they to know all my deepest, darkest secrets.

Except the episode sort of only works as a counterpoint to his usual "witty" dialogue. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favourite Buffy episodes and an excellent piece of television, but it is still very Whedon-y. If anything, I think Joss Whedon is a great writer but his dialogue is tiresomely self-aware and this episode demonstrates that.

One of my favorite episodes! The very first lines of the episode are Professor Walsh (in Buffy's dream): "So this is what it is.. Talking about communication Talking about language... not the same thing
...it's about the thoughts and experiences that we don't have a word for..."
Several lines of dialogue from the episode that tie into the theme of communication and if we do our best communicating after we STOP talking:
-Spike (imitating Anya) to Xander: "We never talk."
-Xander to Anya: "we'll talk about it later." and then Anya to Xander: "Well, I think we should talk about it now."
-Olivia to Giles: "Yeah, that's enough small talk, don't you think?"
-Wicca at the Wicca meeting: "Okay, let's talk about the theme for the bacchanal."
-Willow talking to Buffy about the Wicca meeting: "Talk. All Talk."
-Buffy to Willow when she asks about Riley: "See above re: talk. all talk."
-Buffy to Willow about Riley: "I get nervous and I start babbling...plus every time we talk I have to lie."
-Riley to Forrest: "See? You're naturally inclined to talk too much."
-Riley to Buffy at the end: "Well, I guess we have to talk."

This episode has so much goodness. Not only the great concept and the great way they play it out with no dialogue through most of the episode, and how they tie it in about communication, even including that idea in the Profs lesson. Just the great way they show Riley and Buffy finding out each others secret. The gentlemen being the creepiest/scariest things yet. The introduction of Tara and really showing them expanding beyond their close knit group and showing the college years, or post high school life of all of them. The emphasis on the different tactics of the scooby gang Slayers and the Initiative. I think we forget how much other stuff is in here due to focusing on the main concept.
