Old comment but many seals possess similar vocal cords to humans, or at least also use them to produce sound. That’s why they sound eerily like humans, because they have similar structures for making sound.
Most mammal species share the same vocal cords, but depending of size is gonna be hight or low sound. Animals with almost the same size of vocal cords as us gonna sound "human", but it's the default noise of mammal species.
99.99% chance he would be dead by now. They have a low survival rate and I dont think he would be the "fittest" of the species if he doesnt want to go into water
I went through a period of deep grief years ago (much better now, no worries), and I pulled this video out in my therapist's office to vocalize how I was feeling. It was actually tremendously helpful in expressing emotions that were too big and complex to process verbally. Thanks for the best seal video ever! I completely lost it at 1:53 even more-so when I noticed the two researchers also did. lol
It's like the seal is completely disgusted by the water, or rather- it looks more like it just learned that water isn't breathable, since it seems to be trying to make sounds underneath the water surface, moments before that.
I always feel like it's complaining that the water is so cold, and is protesting that fact to anyone who can hear, especially the water! XD

Old comment but many seals possess similar vocal cords to humans, or at least also use them to produce sound. That’s why they sound eerily like humans, because they have similar structures for making sound.
Most mammal species share the same vocal cords, but depending of size is gonna be hight or low sound. Animals with almost the same size of vocal cords as us gonna sound "human", but it's the default noise of mammal species.

I went through a period of deep grief years ago (much better now, no worries), and I pulled this video out in my therapist's office to vocalize how I was feeling. It was actually tremendously helpful in expressing emotions that were too big and complex to process verbally. Thanks for the best seal video ever!
ETA: ...oh my gosh, we were both trying to figure out how to do things without our moms? ...and the correct answer was crying and screaming and getting it out of our systems? ...nature is so healing.
