This is a video showing a quick fix solution that costs nothing to do if you are having problems with your fuel door release cable.
Mine broke on my 2015 Honda CR-V but this would likely work on ANY CAR that has a fuel door release cable!
This is likely a common problem for any car that has a fuel door release cable. This is not exactly a repair, but a modification that offers a cheap and easy solution!
Replacing a Fuel Door Release cable at a dealership would likely cost you hundreds of $$$ or would be a total pain to tear apart the interior trim to access the cable in order to replace it. This is a free and easy solution that still allows for your fuel door to latch, but without digging into the interior to replace the cable.
Hope this is helpful to anyone having a similar issue!

I've just fixed ours. The cable breaks off at the lever so it's not too hard to repair. I pulled the covering panel off and unscrewed the lever from the wall for easy access. I bought a small wire clamp from the marine store and used some earth cable to loop through the back of the lever and clamped it to the release cable with the wire clamp, Tighten with extra locking screws to keep it secure. Worked a treat.

This exact problem happened to me today, of course at the gas station after waiting 20 minutes in line. I haven't fix it yet, but after seeing your video it took me 3 minutes to get it opened. I originally called the dealer who gave me the song and dance about it should be covered by my warranty, but they wouldn't be able to look at it until next Thursday. Thank God there are people like you who take the time to put something like this together, just to help people out. Mahalo Ripitzig.

Thanks for the tip! Mine broke almost 2 years ago and replacing it would be silly at this point.

Had the same issue in a kids car, but instead of bending the arm, I just wrapped a layer of 100MPH Tape (a/k/a Duct Tape) around the arm, at the notch. It stays locked, but all it needs is something like your DL, a debit card, etc to pop it open.

These cables must be made out of spaghetti. I have a 2014 CRV and have replaced this cable twice now. I do this remedy until I get my new one in the mail. It works well. To be fair I do drive for Uber, so my gas cable lever gets yanked far more than a regular Joe/Jane driving around town. But seriously Honda can you freaking make one that will last more than 60k. With the original and two replacements with my third replacement coming in the mail that is a grand total of 4 in 254,000 miles in 4 years time. I'd say its a shitty cable period. What do I gotta do, take my CRV in for gas door cable filter and lube rotation??

Thanks for the idea! My cable is stuck and I think that something in the latching mechanism is broken. I looked at your video used a small piece of cardboard to protect the paint used a paint sraper to find the Arm and tapped the end of paint scraper with a hammer. It opened - Thanks for the idea!, and the video

That little trick with trying to adjust the broken wire didn’t work at all. Gas cap won’t budge. The comment section is annoying. Also, that was one of the first things I tried when it broke cause I thought I was so smart. Guess it wasn’t so convenient for me.
