Der Jesen speaker klingt großartig 🤘🏻 ich wäre gespannt wie er im blend mit dem DV-77 klingt. Da ich auf der Suche nach zwei neuen speakern für meine 2x12“ bin
As much as I like the Jensen, it sounds more like in a tube and takes over some of the drums in the mix. The Emeinence is much smoother and sits in the mix better in my opinion. But they both sound great.
Hey all! Good afternoon, Ignazio here from Jensen Speakers. Kristian, thank you for this GREAT video. Excellent information, interesting comparisons, awesome tones, I could not ask for anything more than this! Thanks to all the friends and tone fanatics that are talking the time to share their comments. They are very valuable to us, and please don't hesitate to hit me with comments and questions. I'll be more than happy to discuss tone, gear, ideas, options... all about speakers! Here follow a few details about the Tornado SE that I'd love to share with you all. 1) Speaker response in the bass range: we shifted up a little bit of energy from the lower bass (70-80Hz) to the lower midrange (120-180Hz), to make it tight and rich. Good for high-gain palm-muting riffs! 2) Top End response: we tailored the top end to be open but with a smooth rol-off above 6kHz, so to be able to take a LOT of gain without becoming abrasive. The large dustcap helps countouring the top end in such a way. 3) I have heard/read some references to the "1kHz spike". In all openness, there is none. The presence peak of this speaker is centered around 2kHz to 3.5kHz. Check the frequency curves of both the 8Ohm and 16Ohm versions at this link: www.jensentone.com/frequency-response-chart/651/0 This curve is taken in our anechoic room, with the speaker on a standard IEC baffle, powered with 1W, measured on axis, dead center, at 1 meter. You will see how the 1kHz range is just below 100dB, while the 2-3.5kHz range is around 106dB... that's where the presence and aggression are. Here its pages with all tech data, and its audio samples libraries: www.jensentone.com/jet-series/12-tornado-special-edition sica.it/prodotto/n-12-100-tr-se/ To reconcile with our American friends, come and visit us at the Namm Show, you'll find me at the Jensen booth, Hall D, booth #4124! Have fun, rock hard and play loud! Cheers! Ignazio
Thanks for the great information Ignazio! Whenever I talk about a certain spike or a dip somewhere it’s usually nothing that you see on paper. It’s the simplified impression of the human ear based on a lot of complex things going on.
@ agree! The paper tells only a small side of the story. Our perception of a “tone” is an incredibly complex process…however, a 6dB difference between 1kHz and 2kHz is something that has an influence on the overall sonic impact of the speaker :) and therefore I wanted to highlight it. Yeah, I’m such a pain in the back…
@JensenSpeakersVideos Hello Ignazio. How are you? How does the Tornado SE compares to the Raptor? I have a Raptor and an Electric Lightning an love them both. I was a fan of green/creambacks, but when I discovered Jensen speakers i finally found my tone.
@@seventhlevelsound Another Perfect Day doesn't really sound like these demo riffs, though. Another Perfect Day is, like, mid 2000s melodic death metal style. The demo riffs are kind of their own thing
In my Mesa Traditional 4x12, I run 2 stock V30s and 2 DV77s in an X pattern. That's been the best balanced cab tone I've ever heard! These Jenson kind of have that same vibe.
Yeah I’ve got 2 Jensen stealth 65’s in an X pattern w/ 2 G-12 65’s. That’s my shit🤙🏼 Like you said just super balanced. Gotta pair a darker voiced speaker w/ an aggressive sounding speaker to please the gods
Well... I know personally some players who use the Jensen Blackbird 12/100 in a hard/heavy rock context. It's great but I don't think it's well suited for contemporary metal, for a few reasons: a) Not a tight sounding speaker, rather rich and fat in the bottom end. b) It shines in 1x12 and 2x12 open back cabs. Closed back tighten the tone, but seem to constrain the response of the BB12/100, to my ears at least c) It has a very open top end, awesome for clean/pushed/crunch, up to smooth overdrive leads and classic rock. With all the gain used in the various metal styles, you'd need a careful approach in the amp settings, in mic choice and placement, and in post EQ. I'm not saying it won't sound good; I'm saying, though, that it BB12/100 is SO rich, open, and natural-sounding that stuffing it into a closed back cab and working hard on the EQ to make it "metal" may seem a bit of a forced concept, especially considering the cost. You can try with a C12K2 if you like the openness, a Raptor if you want it smooth, or even the Tornado SE, and have not too far off results in a metal context. About the Blackbird 12/40: the bass range is tight enough for metal but the top end is really open, even more than the BB12/100. The Blackbird 40h is designed with a vintage voicing, similar to a vintage Jensen P12Q, and then boosted, tightened, and opened up. Was not designed for high gain, but rather for "pushed tweed" overdrive. However you can compare all the Jensen Speakers in our SoundCloud Audio Samples archive here: soundcloud.com/jensen-speakers/sets Have fun!
Shootout to you for turning me onto Jensens! I picked up a pair of the tornado stealth 65’s after you did a pretty crazy shootout awhile back - been loving those speakers ever since🤙🏼
The Tornado has that raw throaty sound that I love. I was amazed by how good the IRs that The Other John Browne made from it sounded. Definitely a speaker I'll buy!
The Jensen sounds great! I like the sound you got when you moved the mic to the side and tilted it towards the dust cap the most, I think. Honestly, I can't say whether I prefered the Tornado or the DV-77, though. They both have their place. Would be cool to hear a mix of the two speakers. Great video, Kohle! Thank you for another great year! Guten Rutsch!
Wow I am really floored how good the new Tornado is. It will be interesting to have comparison with Hesu Demon and I believe I am not the only one who is curious about it.
Both solo and mixed with the other instruments, I liked the EMINENCE speakers best in this comparison. Even if they could be a little less harsh. But there's nothing wrong with the Jensen. Just not my style 🙂
I was a big fan of the Jensen Electric Lightning. Have it paired with a 70/80 Celestion in an oversized 2x12 and it's so balanced between that 1k and 2k cut mixed with the scoop of the 70/80. Here like always I feel the Jensen has some serious cut and character. They've definitely got some awesome offerings.
Thank you, your honesty is real, my jensen C12K2 have the same sound character as on your video and by listening to this video on this new model we are sure in advance of what we will receive at home, it is all to your credit so thank you Kohle and thank you Jensen. I am waiting for a test on clean sound to see if it could make a good all-around speaker but it will be on another channel! 😉 PS: your affiliate link go on the wrong model on Tube Amp Doctor 🤫
I listened the Jensen and I cannot stop thinking in a 3ch Dual Recto (non multi watt) with those speakers. I tend to think it would tame the bass looseness of the amp and filter the fizziness as well, keeping that roar and aggression that you look for when it’s boosted…. Any chance of trying that Kristian?
I think we all benefit from these kinds of videos. Not everyone has the option to test before buying and here are still many guitarists convinced that speakers aren't that important. The Jensen sounds good, but I'd say the DV77 is more my sound. Great comparison though.
Interesting sounding speaker, maybe with a little more emphasis on the midrange rather than the higher end, like the DV. I wouldn't have minded a direct comparison to the V30 as well during the shootout
@KohleAudioKult Particularly with metal. I'm starting to think that each genre requires focus at particular points in the signal chain, and preamp/loudspeaker are those for metal. Edit: or I could be wrong, and loudspeaker is universal.
Really like the Jensen, even full bright sound was kinda cool, would be great as a blend for DV.77 or by itself darker, for a thrash kind of tone. The top end is super pointy and aggressive but at least on my system doesn't seem super harsh.
I really like your creativity and your experiments with speaker sounds. This year, I bought a upsizing 2x12 cabinet with a BN12-300-S in the bottom position and a Thick Boy 300w from OverTonez Audio in the upper position from Barefaced Audio for stoner and doom sounds and it's extremely loud and it has the sounds I like. I'm still interested in other cabinets with interesting speakers. I like the more dark sounds, especially with distortion and fuzz and suboctave... The Jensen speakers are really interesting and I like the sounds. I like the neodymium speakers because of their lightweight but I wasn't impressed by there sounds. This Jensen speaker is different and it sounds good. I would like to know how it will sound mixed with other speakers like the Eminece DV 77. For me, the speakers having the most impact on the guitar sound and I really like to have cabinets for different music styles with unique sounds. Happy new year 2025!🤘
I recenty bought some IR of this speaker, sound amazing but i try to blend with other speakers and blended with the Nighthawk really open even more the sound. You should try with the real speakers
The Tornado is great! I will wait for your IR version. But I would like to hear it compared to the CV75 raw and in a mix. Kohle, I love your CV75 metal IR. It is my go to for when I am jamming in my headphones. Underrated AF
I fully agree. I keep on leaning towards the DV-77 though. The CV75 can get harsh easily. I really found the sweet spot when I did those IRs back then.
That thing sounds like it'd do great for black metal or the more old school kinda death metal tones. Hell I might get one for my brighter amp at some point, should actually complement the Redback I will use for my Ampeg V2 fairly well.
Please educate me. Why do subtle speaker differences matter when EQ tools are so powerful nowadays. Why find your perfect speaker vs shaping your tone through other means
Because the guitar speaker is not only the most powerful filter that you an apply to a signal, but also is the last one before your ears (or your microphone). So, all happens before the speaker (guitar, strincs picks, cables, pedals, amps, effects) is filtered by it and receives its own tonal imprint. A speaker's frequency response is only one side of its tone. Then there is the dynamic compression, the progressive breakup, and the harmonic content generated-all sorts of phenomena that are not completely replicable by either hardware or software devices. But let's turn back to the frequency response: look at the curve of the Tornado SE here: www.jensentone.com/frequency-response-chart/651/0 Quite simply, no traditional EQ for how sophisticated, could replicate that. The only thing that comes close is an Impulse Response, that acts like a filter with thousands of editing points in the audio range. In the real world, to replicate the sound of a specific speaker in a specific cab, picked up by one or more mics, in a given room at a given volume, the IR comes close and has incredible virtues. But still, the speaker has its own reason why. With some experience, you'll know that if you want a certain tone, you go for a certain speaker, and you're already two-thirds on your way!
@ electric Lightning’s 😎 I also started off with an atypical one that was really cool for black metal/punk style tones, the P12R. The vintage alnicos might be something you’d prefer over the neodymium
Not that it means that much but the other john brown made a demo of this speaker and i downloaded his ir and at first i liked it but when i tried to use it in a mix it was way too dark Kinda sounds that way in your mix too
I like it. But I do prefer the DV77. More than the V30 too. The Jensen Tornado almost sounds like an old Greenback, has that attacking bit, and sizzle, and mic'd out toward edge had that low end mass too. Cool sound, especially if aiming for something really raw and rough sounding. If you were putting four different speakers in a 4x12, this would be a contender, as well as a Greenback. But my first choices would still be V30 & especially DV77s here.
I personally don't share in the love for the DV-77. Maybe blended with something else. But on its own, I find it super cloudy. Like I said, maybe blended with something else, but the V30 does just fine on its own.
To me the DV-77 sound the best. Even better than the v30. There is some kind of unpleasant harshness in both the v30 and the Jensen. I can imagine djent players may like the focused tone from both speakers.
Yes, I like it in the mix it's almost indistinguishable from the DV77, as you said on its own a bit thinner in the lower mid-range compared to the DV77.
I bought the Jensen Tornado a couple of years ago after hearing you blend it with a V30. Heavenly tone to these old ears! This Tornado is a whole different animal. Cool but not for me. Cheers🤘
Companies that build cabinets should include these speakers. Most cabs (at least in Europe) have Chinese V30s, Marshall's V30, Boogies' V30, Greenbacks, G12T-75s, and G12-H30. There are so many speakers in the market but without a cabinet.
I'd love to see you do reviews of these speakers: Eminence Tonker (best speaker no one ist talking about) Jensen Raptor Lichtlärm LCFR 150 Weber Tone Kvlt Gray Wolf Fane F70 Hesi Demon
Would love to test that one with super low tuned guitar, that 1k spike would make a good job compared that 3k nightmare of classic british voiced speakers, specialy with my 5150iii
I have shown the Fane a few times on this channel. Recently I had the Fryette version in two videos as well. The Weber stuff never really sounded cool in other videos. So I guess they will have to send me some samples to convince me ;)
@KohleAudioKult thanks man. I haven't noticed the fane appearance on your vídeos. I'll search for them. Thanks once again and a late Merry Christmas to you and a happy new year's eve in advance. Oder ich wünsche dir ein frohes neues Jahr!
@@KohleAudioKult Perhaps but I'm just going to take a wild guess that you are spinning many more plates. Regardless, I always look forward to.your speaker videos because we approach them differently so your videos help me complete the picture even if I own the speaker myself
IRs are coming from various sources! Not sure if Kristian will do some, hope so! @TheOtherJohnBrowne released some... We (Jensen) will release soon the Tornado SE IRs in our usual platforms, TH-U SuperCabinet and TwoNotes DynIR, so you'll have plenty of choices!
Listening in solo is deceptive. To me, all of these tones would need some notching in a final mix. The Jensen sounds a bit similar to the gt-65 heritage but with more 4-6k ouch. For me, the DV77 and other Eminances sound cool on their own, but in a mix never quite sit right unless blended with something else. Just my 2c. Maybe I m just too sensitive to 2k in my old age.
@@KohleAudioKultthanks, I caught that. Would you typically do more notching to make space for the kick and vocals in a real mix? ...I realize this is a test specifically to feature the differences between speakers.
I'd love to hear you, using and recording some lowfi amps. Something more of a Blackmetal approach... for more character and difference...if you know what I mean ...anyway, thanks for all the videos and the knowledge you share!
I think the Tornado sounds much better than the DV77. The DV77 has something on the high end that really irritates me. The Tornado doesn't have any high end buzz.
DV Sounds better, but the Jenson IMHO lacks forward lift, Seams like the more you move, the mic from my end lacks dynamics. Just a little hallow. But I'm hearing it om my phone. Yes good job Jenson.
great video as always man! on the speaker front, meh. hehe. def not bad, but...meh. take away the ceramic, take away all the "honk", at least for me. in metal, honk is a great thing. i also think neo speakers work much better with "fizzier" guitar tones... like a dean. those old deans are usually SO NOISY, but when being played, that noise adds to the tone for sure. that tornado does remind me of Eric Peterson's guitar cab sound though. similar to me to the celestion 30 watt with a 57, as Eric P or Doug hall would have told me, "all up in the shit bobby" hehe. he would always have me put a 57 damn near touching where the dust cap and diaphragm met. it would often actually touch the57 grill while he played. made it less "ceramicy"..:) oddly enough, i think that tornado speaker would actually really sound killer with a clean strat tone. have you ever tried capping guitar speakers? the tornado might come to life with a bumble bee cap. pull out just a little fizz. that'd be cool content ive never seen btw.. capping guitar speakers... keep on keepin on! HAIL SANTA!
I don't like the Jensen too much. It's quite ok, but there's a tone in the Jensen I don't like and it's quite present, don't know the frequence...maybe it's better in combination with another speaker...anyway thanks again for the demonstration. Have a good 2025 and keep on with the great content.
I used the Jensen Stealth 80 on thhe last rec. with a Fireball. The Stealth 80 sounds like a better T75. Totally underrated. th-cam.com/video/jkd6xLq-_JA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PqHx80bxMzfAjY98
I don't like the new Jensen speaker at all. The DV-77 has a better bass response. So a bass guitar in the mix with a clean tone will have a better symbiose with the guitars.
How do you like the Tornado? 🤘
And how important is the weight for you?
Always do harmonics & high note solo stuff in these tests please

Quite simply, no traditional EQ for how sophisticated, could replicate that.
Been a fan of Jenson for years as a metal player. They have a unique crunch in distortion that’s unique to them
Which Jensen speakers do you use?
@ electric Lightning’s 😎 I also started off with an atypical one that was really cool for black metal/punk style tones, the P12R. The vintage alnicos might be something you’d prefer over the neodymium
🔥 Another good one
Satan, to Americans: "Your boos mean nothing, I've seen what makes you cheer."
Killer review! Please compare with best jensens to date please (C12K & C12K2)
Didn't I show the K2 in the other Jensen video back then?
@KohleAudioKult I was curious about a Tornado/C12K/C12K2 comparison
Not that it means that much but the other john brown made a demo of this speaker and i downloaded his ir and at first i liked it but when i tried to use it in a mix it was way too dark
Kinda sounds that way in your mix too
Cool to hear that Satan got a new speaker!
Theres something about the Jensen that just sounds like Hatebreed to me. I think its the 1k thing. it slams! Id love to see it against the neo cream
6:21 - very proud of his toy haha
Yes, I like it in the mix it's almost indistinguishable from the DV77, as you said on its own a bit thinner in the lower mid-range compared to the DV77.
I think this speaker is worth more exploration. It could be very useful to bring to life a dark amp or dark sounding guitar.
I think it's easier to sell cabs that are "Celestion loaded". That's why they all do it. Stupid but true.
@@KohleAudioKult You are 100% right.
I would like to listen to a blend of the EMINENCE and JENSEN. Maybe the EMINENCE miked more to the cap and the JENSEN to the membrane...
Just clicked, haven't heard it yet. I'll take 12 ;)
🤪 that’s the spirit! 🥳
I'd love to see you do reviews of these speakers:
Eminence Tonker (best speaker no one ist talking about)
Jensen Raptor
Lichtlärm LCFR 150
Weber Tone Kvlt Gray Wolf
Fane F70
Hesi Demon
Very good ideas.
The Tonker is on my list, I actually do have a Raptor here. The F70 has already been on the channel a few times though.
Would love to test that one with super low tuned guitar, that 1k spike would make a good job compared that 3k nightmare of classic british voiced speakers, specialy with my 5150iii
That upper mid bite is what a lot of people love about that speaker 😮💨
Hey glas you liked it. Here the grequency response curve, FYI; not much of the 1khz spike, the upper mid bite is higher in the 2kHz range :)
I would love to hear you trying the Webber dire work and silver wolf, and the Fame 70 . Please
What's about mojotone bv30v or bv30h speakers? Really want hear compare with your 2003 vintage 30.
Yeah I'm a Mojotone BV-30H fan as well. Also Glenn Frickers favourite speaker.
@POGFROGULPOP what's about harshness? Bv30v and bv30h much brighter than v30.
@@vladlesg9096 When you record it, you just high cut EQ the fizz above 5 khz, just like you would with most guitars speakers.
Now I need that Jensen IR lol
Very cool
The Jensen sounds great in this video! Somehow it reminds me a little of the H magnet Creamback. Hail Satan and a happy new year!
I can make my cab 24 pounds lighter and sound this good? Sign me up!
I wonder how a full 4x12 of these sounds "in the room"?
YES!
Not as fast as you though
@@KohleAudioKult@theotherjohnbrowne You two guys are SO great, haha!
@@KohleAudioKult Perhaps but I'm just going to take a wild guess that you are spinning many more plates.
Regardless, I always look forward to.your speaker videos because we approach them differently so your videos help me complete the picture even if I own the speaker myself
I WANT this as an IR pack - hurry or i'm forced to spend my hard earned $ who whoever delivers it! ;-)
Prefer the Jensen, but both sound good in a mix
Best outro. 😂
That’s always the fun part! 😎
In case you missed it: You can hear it in a mix in the A/B chapter
@@KohleAudioKultthanks, I caught that. Would you typically do more notching to make space for the kick and vocals in a real mix?
...I realize this is a test specifically to feature the differences between speakers.
So… where is the great comparison compilation, this time including the Lichtlaerm LCFR?
I'd love to hear you, using and recording some lowfi amps. Something more of a Blackmetal approach... for more character and difference...if you know what I mean ...anyway, thanks for all the videos and the knowledge you share!
That actually sits like fun. Don’t a lofi black metal thing
surprised that I really like the tones from the neo
I think the Tornado sounds much better than the DV77. The DV77 has something on the high end that really irritates me. The Tornado doesn't have any high end buzz.
I think you're rather talking about the upper mids. Yes, it's more aggressive there
its like midscoop like g12t75
Did someone say Fryette
DV Sounds better, but the Jenson IMHO lacks forward lift, Seams like the more you move, the mic from my end lacks dynamics. Just a little hallow. But I'm hearing it om my phone. Yes good job Jenson.
Maybe it's great for leads
So that's how you got in shape, right? 4x12 lifting and lot's of beer!
This video really just showed me how much I hate the V30.
I can't stand them.
I kept changing my mind.
great video as always man!
on the speaker front, meh. hehe. def not bad, but...meh. take away the ceramic, take away all the "honk", at least for me. in metal, honk is a great thing. i also think neo speakers work much better with "fizzier" guitar tones... like a dean. those old deans are usually SO NOISY, but when being played, that noise adds to the tone for sure.
that tornado does remind me of Eric Peterson's guitar cab sound though. similar to me to the celestion 30 watt with a 57, as Eric P or Doug hall would have told me, "all up in the shit bobby" hehe. he would always have me put a 57 damn near touching where the dust cap and diaphragm met. it would often actually touch the57 grill while he played. made it less "ceramicy"..:)
oddly enough, i think that tornado speaker would actually really sound killer with a clean strat tone.
have you ever tried capping guitar speakers? the tornado might come to life with a bumble bee cap. pull out just a little fizz.
that'd be cool content ive never seen btw.. capping guitar speakers...
keep on keepin on! HAIL SANTA!
I don't like the Jensen too much. It's quite ok, but there's a tone in the Jensen I don't like and it's quite present, don't know the frequence...maybe it's better in combination with another speaker...anyway thanks again for the demonstration. Have a good 2025 and keep on with the great content.
killer review, prefer the dv 77 but can see old touring bastards with bad backs loving the jensen
The DV 77 sounds more impressive on my setup, something new for me to try.
on my krk rokit 8 studio speakers...the v30 actually sounded best to me then..dv77...jensen was good but not incredible
😃😁🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Not sure I like it, I don't like the fizz, I really like the DV77 though!
No heavy lowend 😔
I used the Jensen Stealth 80 on thhe last rec. with a Fireball. The Stealth 80 sounds like a better T75. Totally underrated. th-cam.com/video/jkd6xLq-_JA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PqHx80bxMzfAjY98
Whether folks think it sounds evil or heavenly, I think that basically means the same thing. 😇😈
I don't like the new Jensen speaker at all. The DV-77 has a better bass response. So a bass guitar in the mix with a clean tone will have a better symbiose with the guitars.
Offended Americans? Mission accomplished!
Just remember Satan loves guitar tones, too!
🤘👹🤘
