I remember staying in St George Park years ago there was a kids football tournament there. John was also there wearing a big bucket hat trying to stay anonymous relaxing with family and friends. He was recognised obviously and I remember watching him interact with all the young footballers and parents signing everything and posing for photos,It seemed a bit much to me as there were so many so I stayed away because it would have been to intrusive if it was me in that situation. He never refused anyone or was stroppy he was so genuine with all the kids he encountered that day. I slightly regret not going up to him as I am a Welsh football fan who has seen John give his all to Wales.

Used to drink in the Trallwn Club with my father and Grandfather and John’s Grandad drank in there and knew my Grandad well… I always remember he would go over to Newfoundland in Canada for a few months of the year, I believe he was from there… cracking feller, was good to have a pint with him on a Sunday down the club! Miss those days, it’s just houses now.
