Ninh explains The Rules of 3 on 3 Basketball. Due to the sudden surge of popularity of 3x3 Basketball by FIBA and the new league in the Big3 - I felt it pertinent to explain the rules of both and compare them both side by side so that you know what the differences are. Be sure to share this video and subscribe if you haven’t already. Cheers guys! :)
Thanks Andrew. I admire your enthusiasm for this channel. And I thought it'd be best to capitalise on the popularity of the Big3 - that's really taken off! Cheers again man!
Other differences that I have noticed is the way the games were played. In BIG3 it is faster, movements are more free flowing, and the game is closer to standard basketball except the 4 pointers while in FIBA 3X3 it is more physical, more particular with position and angles, and requires a different skillset since part of the gameplay deviates away from standard basketball. Also, BIG3 players play for fun, publicity, to get noticed by NBA teams, or get better contracts from overseas teams while FIBA 3X3 players play to win the tournament cash prize and attract sponsors who will fund their team. BIG3 is more like a hobby and talent search while FIBA 3X3 is more like a job. BIG3 and FIBA 3X3 just made basketball, which is already fun and exciting, more exciting and fun to watch and will help popularize more the growing sport of basketball since they offer more variety.
Whilst that might be true, these are not rules on how to play the games - so understandably I don't put them in. I keep my videos short and simple for a beginner to understand.

Nice video ninh. This video was a good one for the "noobs" of basketball. This video also helped me understand the difference between the two. Good video
Amazing game. I also came up with a similar idea in my mind for 9-man (gridiron) football, which I guess is the gridiron football equivalent of this 3-on-3 basketball.
Reduced-player football is pretty common in small town high schools, like in the Midwestern US. Nine-player is a lot like the regular game, but as you get down to 8, 7, or even 6 players you have to shrink the field to keep the plays from spreading out too far.
Played 8-man football growing up in small town Iowa. On offense you would have two fewer down linemen, and one less receiver, TE or back. Defense could change sets a lot but a lot of times it would be three linemen, two linebackers, two corners and one guy in the middle playing safety. Or one linebacker and 4 DBs, or 3 linebackers and 2 DBs, etc.
Yeah, I've been watching it and have been pleasantly surprised at the performance of some of these players. I've always been a fan of JYD so I'm glad to see he's still got it. Iverson on the other hand ... hmmm.
Most of the time, the role of a captain doesn't determine the rules of the game, so I've largely left them out. The challenge is that different sports have different roles for the Captain and sometimes there are more than one so there is no one analogous explanation as to what captains do. Same goes with managers, coaches etc ... and they all differ from sport to sport. Thanks though.
Yea I know hockey has 2 in case one gets injured nd back in the day the goalie could have been both. But what I wana know is if they get pay more, do they keep the trophy after a tournament?
*Harambe* They're not, 3 on 3 Basketball in the Olympics is for Amateurs/FIBA 3x3 Experienced Players Only to make things fair which is one of the reasons why 3x3 Ball is being added to the Olympics starting in 2020 #FromTheStreetsToTheOlympics. NBA Players are eligible to play in the Regular Basketball (5v5) since they have experience in Regular Bball and thats where they're supposed to be playing in
FEED THE HUNGRY TROLL The "Pro" Version of 3x3 is at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour (also known as the Professional Tour) for the Amateurs that both make it that far in the competition and who earn lots of money from Winning
if its gonna be 3 on 3 I would like to see them mix men and women. This would be a great place to try and mix the players like that on a professional level.
Parker Thomas BIG3 is practically another sport in itself, different court, different shot clock, different scoring, different foul managing, different audience, different 3/2pt line, different timing

Ninh Ly Another thing that I noticed is that the BIG 3 has a more loose environment compared to FIBA 3X3 which is more serious. Is it because BIG 3 players are composed of retired and ex NBA players and other professional players who play overseas and in the G League and money is not an issue and they play for only for publicity and fun or to get noticed by NBA teams while FIBA 3X3 players are committed full time players who play seriously to win the cash prize and attract sponsors? The structure is not the only difference but also the environment and purpose of players are also very different.
It's just the Big 3 that doesn't check the ball. I think it's to speed up the gameplay, as Big3 games are usually a hell of a lot longer than the officially sanctioned FIBA games.
I have the same doubt every time I play with my friends. What happens if the defenders manage to stealt their oppenent's ball, but they lose it before they can clear(go outside the arc), do they have to clear again? I don't know if I'm explaining well. Imagine we have two teams the Red Team and the Blue Team. A player from the read team steals blue's ball but a player from the blue team manages to recover the ball before reds can clear. Do blues have to clear again or they are allowed to continue?
What if the offence team tries to make a shot, but doesn't hit the basket at all, and the defence team get the ball, do they have to clear it first then?
Another thing, is it true that in FIBA 3X3 the ball is slightly smaller but heavier and the court is more slippery since they use rubberized tiles while in BIG 3 the ball and court is similar to the ones used in standard basketball?
Unfortunately there's no way to explain every rule of MMA in a short video, but I can tell you that every kind of punch or kick is allowed, but you can't strike any sensitive areas with it (back of the head, spine, groin etc.) Like I said, the video is coming up, but I cannot guarantee when.
The rules of BIG3 are gimmicky and can be compared to an NBA All-star weekend event and are too NBAish. FIBA 3X3 rules is very different from standard basketball and it is like a new sport, also, it is like tennis, racing, and golf because it has tournaments, masters, and world tour.
I suppose FIBA 3 on 3 didn't take off in the US like the Big3. Yes I agree it's gimmicky and tries too hard to be the NBA - but it seems to be popular right now.
Yes, BIG3 is very popular since it has major TV coverage, Fox Sports is the main broadcaster and they sell out NBA arenas unlike FIBA 3X3 which has a smaller venue but cannot fill the seats and they do not have a large network covering their games. Also, maybe FIBA 3X3 is too European and non-mainstream for Americans' taste and liking. Either way, if both BIG3 and FIBA 3X3 increased in popularity, it will only make basketball more popular in the US and overseas.
It's certainly easier to administer and play for young people, which I think was the whole idea of creating it. It's not really taken off in the UK as it has in every other part of the world. Time will tell if this actually works!
It is too early too tell since FIBA 3X3 and BIG 3 started only in 2012 and 2017, respectively. But I have watched some FIBA 3X3 and a lot of countries where standard basketball is not popular are competitive in the sport, but the sad part is that FIBA 3X3 is not popular in some places where standard basketball is popular like the U.S. and Philippines. I really wish FIBA 3X3 and BIG3 would do well and expand the popularity of basketball.
Fiba 3x3 using 1's and 2's is the most detrimental decision on core rules I've ever seen a pro sports league make. In all levels of pro basketball, using 2's and 3's, the most optimal shots are 3's and dunks. Using 1's and 2's just further increases the value of shots beyond the arc, meaning players can chuck up even more garbage and still generate higher expected value than anything in the paint. This is what you see happening in fiba games. 1's and 2's is something people use because it's easier to keep track of in casual pickup. When you have scorekeepers, it's a nonsensical decision.

Ninh Ly so basically just half court professional basketball
You should really watch the video in detail before you assume that it's just the same as another sport.

They already added it in the Baku european games

They don't - they just put the ball in play just like the NBA.
