I was wondering if there’s any significance to how many buttons there are in different places on various garments. You mentioned buttons on the collar being less formal which we always called
“Orange County Conservative” when I worked in Beverly Hills. I was thinking of the number of buttons on a suit jacket at the end of the sleeve down by the wrist. Some have 4 while others might only have 3 or even 2. Also, the number of buttons on the front of a suit jacket and why do I see all of these men lately that only fasten one button when there are 2 buttons which leaves the bottom of the jacket open showing the belt buckle and causing the man to look a bit like a pudding tied in the middle as my mum would say. I think it looks terrible and causes the suit to appear too tight around the abdomen and not in a good way.

@@prepperjonpnw6482 It is not customary to fasten all the buttons on a two button suit. The reason they look as you describe is bad tailoring or the current trend of fitting the suit tight so as to emphasise the athletic V-shape.

I absolutely love this channel when i was younger i ALWAYS wanted to dress PROPER so i got into my grandfathers closet and found something i liked and off to school i went well it didnt turn out the way i thought it would. My "friends" at the time the "popular" kids turned on me and crushed my dreams of dressing proper for school. My teacher and principal loved the look and thought i was brave for going against the grain of what was "popular" . But i hated the popular look at the time witch was "urban" huge pants and huge shirts i thought people that dresses "urban" looked sloppy and insane ! So i just bought khakis and flannels for the "dad" look lol

Zips are hard to replace, I travel a lot and you can always resew a button on, can't resew or fix a zip on the 'fly' -pun somewhat unintended :D

I never really though much about buttons until I encountered Drake's sleeveless cardigan during the factory shop closing sale. I loved the buttons and I regret not buying the lambswool one during the archive sale. The William Lockie ones are the same except the buttons...

Surprising how important buttons are; I transformed a navy blazer with dark bronze buttons from ebay and also a navy peacoat with metal not bright buttons from a store in the garment district in Manhattan.

Something I thought you might talk more about is the relative formality of wearing buttons versus less formal closure methods like flies/zippers. I certainly find buttons to always be the smarter option.

While I cannot claim to be a "Proud Black" you have to only take one look at my face to understand why the Black Australian Aboriginal community give me respect by calling me "Uncle", with my Irish Grandmothers in Australia, all having migrated sepeperately date back to the first European Settlers in this country, with my fair skin which "Sunburns" easily and Blonde hair from a Danish Grandfather, I look like an Albino Aboriginal. On the other hand Aunty being the common title given to female members of extended Aboriginal Families in Australia, many of whom like me have Irish Surnames and there are an amazing number of people called both Pat and Mick in the northern regions of Australia. As for being accepted by trans woman, I have spent most of the last 40 years living in St. Kilda Victoria, where there are probably more multigender people living than anywhere in Australia. They are not just neighbours, but they are friends, who just like one another for just being there when you need them. Six months ago I was admitted to the main Hospital in Melbourne late at night and the Nurse in Charge told me that the COVID19 infection was so far advanced that I woild not live more than two days. Early next morning, the Doctor in Charge of the Emergency COVID 19 Intensive Care Ward at The Alfred Hospital told me that I would not live to see the end of the day. While I spent 12 weeks in Intensive Care, followed by a further 10 weeks in COVID Recovery, it has allowed me the pleasure of finding a whole new world, that exists on TH-cam sites. I have always been to busy with my career to spend time on ideal chatter, but suddenly being told that "You won't see the day out" makes one appreciate that no one cares about how succesful you were at your job when you were alive, so now is the time to enjoy new paths and new adventures. I just picked up a grey unconstructed bonobos wool blazer. I am wanting to wear this with brown loafers/olive chinos/classic white OBD. The blazer has black buttons. Should I get them replaced so they don’t clash with the shoes/belt? Thanks!
Not sure if criticism the other way is warranted, but I think the blooper cutaways distract from the usual, highly streamlined and trust inducing content we've come to expect of GG. I feel that a blooper reel at the end would have been much more organic, and even funnier. I'm obviously in the minority here, though.

I suspect that the discoloration on the buttons on Preston's jacket means they are artificial, plastic, and not leather. But I still have the doubt: how are the leather buttons made? Are they made of wood covered with leather?
I have a vintage single button trench coat, in olive color, that originally had plastic buttons in cement color, I changed them for woodgrain buttons and the appearance of the garment improved 100%, it was a good decision.

I'm a button chap myself. I hate zippers of any kind and yes this includes on trousers. Nothing is more gross than a zipper on a cardigan!!
nothing ruins a garment for me more than a bloody zipper on it. it cheapens the look of it, makes it reek of gen-x, square plates, and hiking gear inside the house.

buttons are a lovely, sometimes inexpensive detail that can make or break a look. i would love more videos dedicated to small, inexpensive things like this video and your shoelaces. little changes that can dramatically alter your outfits look.

Alright preston, I going to say that the buttons of your camel jacket are made of...cardboard!
No, I'm not joking : I seriously say «cardboard». The reason why I take that guess is because I found a similar jacket, once, which leather looking buttons were losing their color, like yours, revealing a kind of brownish laminated paper. The loop was mad of iron thaugh.
Me personally I like zippers better but buttons are good too

@Selim Mašić agreed. sometimes b roll cuts detract from a video, but in this rare case they added a nice little bit of charm to the video as a one off.
you guys can skip the cutaways to bloopers, it's starting to get annoying. it breaks my attention from your content and is jarring, which is not good. as an ideally timeless video, these cutesy cutaways will not be appealing after a while. or consider placing them at the end rather than inserting in many locations. cheers.
