  • 2046 is the last Wong Kar Wai movie in this mini series cataloguing and looking back at his finest work.
And in true Wong Kar Wai fashion he delves deeper into the main theme that all his other movies have also looked at and that is the theme of love.
For the past six videos we have looked at the many meanings Wong Kar Wai gives love.
And in 2046 we see them all, the toxic side, the confusing side, and most importantly the beautiful side of an emotion that will affect each and every one of us.
All that is shown through our three characters, Chow, Bai Ling, and Wang Jing-Wen.
The main character and the one we get to see most of the film's perspective from is Chow. Now, his name might ring a bell because this movie is a continuation of In the Mood for Love.
And in this film we get to see how Chow coped with leaving Li-Zhen, a woman who he loved deeply.
From there we see the many different relationships that Chow tries to maintain and how they all fell apart because of his reluctance to truly move on.
Then we have Bai Ling, one of Chow’s failed relationships and one where her story is about loving someone that does not love you.
And finally Wang Jing-Wen, she loves a Japanese man that her father forbids her to see, but unlike Chow who’s forbidden love was let go, Wang Jing-Wen get’s her happy ending.
And through each character we get to see the toxic, confusing and beautiful understanding of love.

This analysis almost had me in tears. Very well made. I loved it the same as I loved the movie its self. The way you're talking about it, the quotes, It's obvious that you love analyzing wong's movies.

2046 is underrated. When you watch it directly after “In The Mood For Love” it really impacts everything so much more. Such a beautiful film!

My 2046, I would define it as a comfort place in my head, my state of mind and my perspective on love (which was strongly enriched by these movies) not the fact that I love or have loved people but rather the love that I still have in me, that I keep to myself and that I store for the future, that’s my 2046

The final video of the Wong Kar Wai series and the final video of 2022.
I know I haven't released as much as I did last year but I hope the videos I have released you have enjoyed.
I'm not going to make any promises for 2023 but I'm hoping for it to be a good year with way more videos released.
Thanks for watching this year and I'll see you all in 2023!

I fell in love with that movie, mostly because I could relate so much with the "unrequited" part.
It was the first time that I was watching a movie which nailed that feeling in the most perfect and tragic way.
My favourite Wong Kar Wai movie for sure 💛

Thank you for making this. I was looking for a well made analysis on this movie and finally came across this! I watched the movie for the first time last night, after watching Days of Being Wild and In the Mood For Love, and can’t stop thinking about it. I felt like I could melt into the atmosphere, like the rhythm of the editing was just taking me along for a ride.

My 2046 is really complex. It's all about the journey ! But nothing is more beautiful than love. I think experiences initiate us. A film like this invites us to reflect.

I watch this trilogy in sequence; Days of Being Wild -> In The Mood for Love -> 2046.
I don't really understand Days of Being Wild for some part and it requires me to read Wikipedia. Now i just realized, all of the character's emotions sometimes are symbolized.
The emptiness of the male lead in the second and third movie (In The Mood For Love & 2046), the sadness of loving someone but needs to let those beloved ones go for various reasons, etc.
I was recommended by a stranger on the internet 3 years ago and it is a great recommendation.

This video is one of the best videos regarding the story of a film I have ever seen, and your question: What's your 2046? That's a real heavy question. Where or with whom should I start? I hope that everyone watching this has had, or will have had, a happy 2046, one that results in a happy ending, whether it ended or not.

it's been a long bargaining and depression stage... I'm willing to accept that if she's happy, I'll be too,
btw there's magic in your video, I'm glad of having watched it again today, helped me recall that love doesn't work the same for everyone and I must do best with my individual outcomes

@@TheDoomer666 so, i wrote chungking express, happy together, in the mood of love, and 2046 at a time when someone special to me left my life, and so i get what you are going through to an extent, and then they came back into my life earlier this year to then leave, leaving me feeling so shitty...the world is lonely , it's the reason why i started making videos in the first place because it justified my lonliness...i won't tell you how to feel because i recently made a video about the joy of being sad, i still feel sad, but that's okay. cry. i did. we are not robots, we are a people with such complex emotions that we often forget about that. find closure in your own way at your own speed. life really sucks sometimes but please don't forget that life is so fucking beautiful as well and we are all part of that beauty. it's easy to say all this, it's so much harder to put into practice...but we all have to try...don't regret listening to your heart and always stay kind as much as you can. you got this!

so, it was yesterday; having been her birthday last week and now Christmas' eve, it was the perfect occasion to invite her out, share a special moment, and speak my mind to attain peace,
I invited her to dine out, she said yes, I said great! drop me a line this weekend and I'll pick you up, so we settled a date,
the day arrived, I was ready, she decided to don't write me back, ever, no explanation, no apology,
      so much in so little.

My time was the right time
When I first got to experience love I did what I wouldn't do for anyone else so much so, I became an enemy with only one good friend
Which was kind of a big deal because I was typically lonely so I thought the girl was the one to feel that viod on my heart
At last.. She wasn't. Never listened to my conversations, never understood my feelings, never spend any much time with me and never even cared
But after all I feel like it was good I got to experience it because after then I realized what love truly is and feared I would never love again because you simply just cannot find the one that matches your expectations

t's a mystery to me why Chow wouldn't get together with Bai Ling. Just because she doesn't write kung fu novels or doesn't have the full name he likes doesn't mean she can't be with a man like him. I don't think it's fair of him to take it against her that her savings are full of tenners when he's the one who gave them to her in the first place.

    • @babynugget706
      @babynugget706 ปีที่แล้ว +7

TBH it's because it is a more memorable ending. If Romeo & Juliet got together at the end, it would be less memorable. Tragedies work better which is why this was the same. In terms of analysis of Chow's character though from a story perspective, there could be many different reasons. Including he simply did not have the same type of love for her that he did with Su Li-zhen.
