So, I was wondering how Anastasia lost her memory in this version as she didn't fall from a train like she did in the movie and I might have figured it out. So, Anastasia and her sisters had jewels sewn into their corsets that protected them from the bullets. It's likely that the bullet's force was enough to knock Anya back and to hit her head, knocking her out and causing the memory loss. Then they put them all in a wagon or something and she accidentally slid out unknowingly and that's how she was found by the side of the road. It's all I could think of that could have happened
(Edited) Anastasia in this version was 17 years old when her whole family was killed (probably to keep it historically accurate), but in the story, which the musical is based on (animated movie) she was 8. The massacre was enough of traumatic experience to prevent her personality to integrate fully, which leads me to believe she has OSDD-1a. The trauma has to take place before the age 7-9 for the person to develop OSDD/DID. She didn't have to be hit, she just had to witness it. It actually makes a lot of sense. She has PTSD symptoms, being hypervigilant, untrusting and for example throwing herself onto the ground when car made a loud noise (thinking it was gunshot). She's seen experiencing dissociative trance, looking into the distance and feeling as if she was called by her past. We actually see Anastasia switch between her younger self and older self, especially when Dimitri and Pavlov are teaching her about her past - she acts like a young girl in few moments, and yet she doesn't fully believes she's actually the princess until she gets the memories back (probably by fusing with her younger self unknowingly, which is a thing that happens). And it should be pretty obvious to her that she's the Anastasia, because she remembers details better than they do and seems to almost know certain things as if it was her second nature. Doubting oneself is very common thing among patients with OSDD/DID. Being dissociated from her traumatic memories helped her to be more productive and to survive in a very unstable environment. When she's describing her past, we hear about her going through different jobs and working for any scraps to somehow get by, which wouldn't be possible if she was carrying the weight of remembering her trauma. The price for repressing memories is paid by having flashback, night terrors and being in constant state of stress and survival, which are also PTSD symptoms. Patients with OSDD/DID are usually high-functioning members of society, as this disorder is built to be invisible. And also the fusing part - this is actually also extremely well done. By moving out of Russia, trusting her gut, following "the truth of her dreams" and building a healthy and safe relationship with Dimitri she's actually getting out of dangerous environment and healing. Amnesiac barriers were no longer necessary, so while sharing an intimate moment with Dimitri she got her memories back. And it also makes sense why in the end she chose Dimitri over her Nana - he was the one who made her feel safe. Out of every piece of media that exists on OSDD / DID (which are highly bittersweet and at times more of "lesser evil" than doing any good and "spreading awareness" - looking at you Split), I think this musical especially is an almost perfect representation of what it is like to live with a dissociative disorder, without even calling it that. I really don't know if anybody did any research when writing this character, but my god is it well done.
@@naliroka7998 you have a good point, I just guessed that she was hit in the head because that's what records said really happened and that she attempted to play dead but Maria screamed
The musical is based on the animated movie and she's 8 there. So I guess, in the musical, they wanted to keep it historically accurate (as Anastasia died while being 17 years old), while still telling the story that is familiar to us, keeping the key elements of Anastasia-experience. I still think it's an awesome representation, although yeah, to develop OSDD/DID the trauma would have to take place before the age of 7-9.

Thank you thank you THANK YOU for the subtitles!!!! As someone whose first language is Spanish and has a hard time hearing, the subtitles help tremendously!! Thank you!!!!!!!
Just noticed there are multiple coincidences/parallels between Anastasia and Moulin Rouge: -Caroline O’Connor who plays Lily, the Queen’s assistant, was the actress who played Nini in the original 2001 film Moulin Rouge (the lead can can dancer who dances to Roxanne) -Both Anastasia and Moulin Rouge are at least partially set in Paris -The Broadway production of Anastasia shows the real life Moulin Rouge location and windmill on the backdrop screen during “Paris Holds the Key to Your Heart” -Dmitry then sings “…and then, come what may” which was changed from the original Anastasia film for the Broadway production, and “Come What May” is one of the leading songs from Moulin Rouge, both film and musical -Derek Klena who plays Dmitry is the current Christian in Moulin Rouge on Broadway
I saw this in New York back in 2018 but Ramin and Derek were no longer apart of the company, glad I have this wonderful slime tutorial to still enjoy their performance ;)

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I liked Gleb more than Dmitri in this version. In the animated film, you can see Dmitri's motivation change as he falls for Anya, and he is ill at ease when he discovers she is actually the Grand Duchess Anastasia. He keeps this to himself because he wants what's best for her, i.e. making sure she finds her family, but knows that reuniting her with the Dowager means giving her up forever. In this musical, they remove some of that inner turmoil by changing his lines in Paris Holds the Key to Your Heart and having them discover the truth together. He does leave without the reward, but now he never returns to Anya out of his own volition (and incidentally save her from Rasputin). It is Anya who decides to seek him out, to which he reacts rather petulantly (don't acknowledge me if you ever see me/I don't want to love you) then accepts her kiss without much hesitation afterwards. I mean, I guess the underlying feelings are still there, but are far more watered down than in the film. Gleb on the other hand has clear conflict. He wants to be the son who would prove his father's cruel involvement in the revolution was justified. He also wants to be with this girl whose true identity puts them at political odds and endangers both of them (he is ordered to kill her, or else his life or position is presumably on the line.) Furthermore, Gleb essentially has an "I want" moment like Anya and the Dowager, while Dmitri only really has an "I am" moment. (I'm not counting the hope for riches - because that's not really what Dmitri wants at the end of the day.) He basically only expresses that he is a Russian street rat who's quick on his feet, that he is still that awestruck little boy, and that he has come to care for Anya. Still, his attraction is not nearly as strong as Anya's desire for belonging, or the Dowager's desperation and sorrow, or Gleb's fear of becoming a traitor (to his family, his heart, or his country). Thus, Gleb reads more like a protagonist while Dmitri reads more like a villain although their roles are supposed to be reversed... Like, Gleb allows her to live her life despite his entire upbringing going against this, but Dmitri is taking her away from everything she's wanted her whole life because they have a crush, I guess?? At least in the film it doesn't feel so impulsive a decision, and it's implied Anastasia will continue to see her grandmother after she elopes. Also, I find it cute how Gleb meets Anya as a skittish sweeper and is so immediately taken by her, while Dmitri was initially drawn to her when she being paraded around as a princess. Gleb's encounter seems more authentic in comparison. I don't know. Dmitri is one of my favorite animated characters. I really loved the banter between Dmitri and Anya in the film. They're so hilarious, so flawed, yet so perfect. I love their chemistry together. Here, I really felt for Gleb, and found the conflict with Anastasia and it's conclusion to be very compelling - to the point where it took some of the limelight away from the main romance. Enjoyed the musical nonetheless, along with the rest of the changes to the story and dialogue. The cast did a brilliant job capturing the charm of the original.
I like your insight! I see some part of it differently though - the fact Dimitry falls for Anya after some time of her learning, after a dance and interactions is better for me than Gleb's reaction. Dimitry falls for the girl, with her looks, grace, fears and stubborness, whereas Gleb only gets to see she's beautiful. He notices that under ragged clothes and fear, but still, he sees a pretty subject, not an equal.
@@eq4005 I really like your take on falling in love vs falling into an obsession. Again, I just felt that Gleb's story was more compelling than Dmitri's here, not necessarily that he was the better match for Anya. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my thoughts :)
Just wanna say: YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I love Dmitry in the movie, here… UGH🙄 And Gleb is such an interesting character. True, one can say he is obsessed with Anya, think they only have like… 3 interactions, so yeah, He is a simp easily in love, but these interactions were pretty more interesting than with Dmitry, so… Screw it, I ship them!😤 Update: Also, 1. Gleb decides to betray his entire regime, ideals and legacy for « Just a girl who is pretty ». I think that even if it could have been better developped… Yeah. And 2. Obsessed or not, besides his flirting when they met, he never ever hoped ending up with her in the end. He could have been the villains crush trope like « If i can’t have you, no one will » And kill her, but no. So… Yeah…
I love this insight, but personally I thought he was already taken by her during In My Dreams. Maybe that is just Derek slightly breaking character, but the fascination on Dimitri's face literally whenever Anya sings (especially in In My Dreams) kinda is my way of like "damn this dude is in love" whereas with Gleb it was at first, attraction, then, obsession.

I also love whenever in the musical he belts “anya” I have no idea why.) Also if none of you have watched you should watch the royal misfits (Anastasia bts) it’s so funny and acually made me like this even more than I already did.

(Edited)
Anastasia in this version was 17 years old when her whole family was killed (probably to keep it historically accurate), but in the story, which the musical is based on (animated movie) she was 8.
@@naliroka7998 she’s 17 when her family are killed in this. That’s why the actors switch during the dance number
@@newsiesgirl6307 Fuck you're right, I just checked the wikipedia. Well, whole analysis goes to trash. But thank you for being watchful!
Thank you so much for this slime tutorial! The best one I've seen yet! The scene with Gleb and Anya was so intense, I love love love it. Ramin is my love
i feel like every character ramin plays has so many interesting layers
Honestly, everyone should watch this play live n up close. Nothing beats live! You can see them sweat and full of emotions! I cried watching.
Oh ofc! Sorry, I'll just travel from my third world country to Broadway using the tooth fairy money, instead of watching a TH-cam ripoff in a low quality cuz I could barely afford a decent data plan
Hi welcome to todays episode of not everyone can afford to go to a broadway show!
Forget watching it, I want to be in it!
the internet is such a cold place man. all the girl did was wishing everyone could have the best experience which is obviously the live. yall dont need to trauma dump about being broke on her ears lmfao (i am living in a third world country with no money to watch this live but yes i agree i wish everyone could see it live)
This entire musical is eye candy
IKR!
awesome tutorial! slime turned out so good it made me cry 🥲
As someone who watched the animated musical back in the 90s, I really loved the new songs, and the changes they made to the story!
I cried several times watching this live. Apparently I can't go 2 minutes into this video without doing so again. Geez.
Felt that
This story and musical will always stick with me, it’s so underrated.
can we just appreciate the person recording putting the phone down to clap?? as a person who is in musicals that made me so happy lol
Thank you thank you THANK YOU for the subtitles!!!! As someone whose first language is Spanish and has a hard time hearing, the subtitles help tremendously!! Thank you!!!!!!!
Just noticed there are multiple coincidences/parallels between Anastasia and Moulin Rouge:
-Caroline O’Connor who plays Lily, the Queen’s assistant, was the actress who played Nini in the original 2001 film Moulin Rouge (the lead can can dancer who dances to Roxanne)
-Both Anastasia and Moulin Rouge are at least partially set in Paris
-The Broadway production of Anastasia shows the real life Moulin Rouge location and windmill on the backdrop screen during “Paris Holds the Key to Your Heart”
-Dmitry then sings “…and then, come what may” which was changed from the original Anastasia film for the Broadway production, and “Come What May” is one of the leading songs from Moulin Rouge, both film and musical
-Derek Klena who plays Dmitry is the current Christian in Moulin Rouge on Broadway
The best slime tutorial I've ever seen...
I'm gonna make it a lot..
This is such a good “slime tutorial” I love it!!! I think I’ve watched it 3 times now, on my 4th!
It’s so cute she doesn’t know the dance at the beginning of Paris Holds the Key- and she looks to Dmitri for comfort.
I saw this in New York back in 2018 but Ramin and Derek were no longer apart of the company, glad I have this wonderful slime tutorial to still enjoy their performance ;)

I never thought about this in that way, thank you so much for saying this idea out loud (no sarcasm)
This is my favorite Broadway show and I was lucky to see it right before Covid hit. I’m so glad I found this because I’ve missed it!!
quartet at the ballet is the best song ever
Ramin is always just perfect
An absolute beauty I just watched. I thought this video was for click bait cuz I’ve been DYING to watch the musical but then it was actually a real video of the entire musical and my heart skipped a beat ugh how I love Anastasia
Anastasia is one of my favorite musicals it is just soooo good. i am so happy i was finally able to see it!!!! tysm!!

@@sfaira4072 I feel like with Dimitri it was him slowly falling in love and with Gleb it was him slowly falling into obsession
True, one can say he is obsessed with Anya, think they only have like… 3 interactions, so yeah, He is a simp easily in love, but these interactions were pretty more interesting than with Dmitry, so… Screw it, I ship them!😤
Update: Also, 1.
If you like this musical I highly recommend the original movie the animation in the movie is SO enchanting
ramin sings so effortlessly it’s beautiful

- 1:47:57 (the whole song gives me chills to this day no matter how many time I watch it)
- 2:05:13 (I love this ❤)
- 2:09:54 ( This song is definitely one of my top 3, I love Ramin so much in this and I also notice how he loves her although he’s torn through duty and heart, he want so badly to be his “fathers son” and will do anything. I also love whenever in the musical he belts “anya” I have no idea why.)
Also if none of you have watched you should watch the royal misfits (Anastasia bts) it’s so funny and acually made me like this even more than I already did.
