Very nice work sir. The tractor you created works and looks great
@@RustyInventions-wz6ir Thank you! It sure makes yard/garden work more enjoyable.
Are you saying model A or model 8 transmission? I'm looking to build one similar and that's the kind of transmission I'd want. I'd really like to stay away from a torque converter.
@@martinwagnerproductions It is a Ford model A transmission.
Good job!
Thank you!
You have a limited slip, but it will probly wear out completely. I bought a Dana 35 as an open diff, then opened it & found worn clutches. Good for me, but you want yours to be open! Add a 2nd brake pedal right next to the existing, then move one cable to the new pedal. Seperate brakes can function as a limited slip, and they are perfect for manouvering a tractor! I wouldn't buy a tractor if it didn't have seperate brakes. You can steer without touching the steering wheel.
I like separate brakes for row crop tractors, but have found limited slip on standard configuration pretty nice. You're right, though. Separate brakes are nice when you pull enough to lift the front tires.
@@jessealt5415 With separate brakes certain limited slip types might be ok, like Torsen, but that won't. It has clutch packs & they will just fight you as it wears.
That thing is brilliant. Great work.
Thank you, David!
painted just like a real tractor, after assembly!
IMO, tractors don't go in gardens. You have a small field that is suffering from an identity crisis.
Ha! A very small field!
That exposed drive chain reminds me of antique tractors, which reminds me of all the old farmers I knew when I was a kid... Most were missing at least one finger (anything, but usually v-belts), or had severely scarred legs (kicking or getting hit by stuff). Those were the few I knew who were from when tractors were replacing horses, because most had died. Those old tractors had killed a lot of them... the tractor is cool as hell, but be smart & cautious about using it!
For sure. I knew a lot of people from my grandfather's generation with less than 10 fingers. My friends and I joke about youths today by calling them 10-fingered-snowflakes.
i bet steering would improve if you added steering brakes, like ag tractors! simple could be tire brakes, like minibikes. A lever pivots from the chassis, in front of the drive axle, curves over the tire, where it has a flat plate to rub on the tire, and ends as a pedal, right over the floorboard. It is held off the tire by a spring, and pressing on the pedal forces the plate against the tire, slowing that tire. That works amazingly well for ag tractors, lawn mowers should have it! i bet you could drive that, even mow your yard, without even touching the steering wheel, using only the steering brakes!
Makes sense...like a narrow front row crop tractor in reverse!
Sweet! Come up with a remote system for blade engagment, yet? if not, I'm thinking a sheathed cable will work well.
Thanks! No. I got used to it the way it is, but good idea with the sheathed cable. That could be made easily detachable, too.
@@jessealt5415 I'm thinking you could use a ebrake cable from a car to raise the deck, with a brake cable from a bike for the release. I haven't imagined a removable lever assembly, yet. install steering brakes, first, that's way cooler!
For sale bro?
Sorry. It’s a keeper for me.
Great idea, just need a bigger motor on the tiller. I have a semi-homemade tractor that I may do this with.
Thanks! Yeah. A bigger motor would make it much better. I'm playing around turning it around so it faces forward and with better height adjustment. I was thinking I could do it in 2 passes, shallow then deep, but now you got me thinking...
@@jessealt5415 Yeah but the reverse rotation sure makes it do great. The cheapest way I have found to get used motors is to buy old lawnmowers. I have gotten them for as little as 50 bucks when something other than the motor went bad.
Sensacional!!!
Thanks!
Been wanting to build a tractor and mower for the field for a while. Your WF150 and mower are pretty much exactly what Ive been wanting. Im going to borrow heavily from your designs if you dont mind. I have a small engine shop not far from where I work with two old Snapper mowers and a salvage yard I can walk around and pick what I want.
Hi Nick. That's great! Of course, borrow any ideas you think will work for you. And enjoy the project.
@@jessealt5415 Thank you very much.
A question did you reverse the tines where the cutting ends dig
I did not reverse the tines, but it does dig in pretty good. I want to try mounting the tiller forward facing for this year, but I only have a week or 2 at most before planting.
Мне понравилось!!
Спасибо!
Glorious family jewel right there.
Thanks, Jim!
Hello, friend, what's going on in Texas?
Hello Kirill! Are you asking about the border crisis? You may know that the US has 2 major political parties. The Republicans are in control of Texas, while Democrats currently control the federal government. Texas has been overrun with migrants coming accross the Mexico border. Republicans are strongly opposed to illegal immigration. Migrants have become a problem in most of the US as millions are coming from central and South America so quickly that Americans are struggling to feed and house them. Controlling immigration is officially under the control of the federal government, but since the Democrat Biden administration has mostly ignored the problem, Texas has used its militia to try to stop the migrants. This began the clash between Texas and Biden and control over the Texas Mexico border.
@@jessealt5415 I hope that everything will end peacefully.

Thanks! I've been using it for a few years now, and it is still going strong. I enjoy cutting the grass. I used to hate it with the push mower, especially in the heat of July and August.
Great looking tractor! Love the rear tires! What size are the rear tires? 15 rim X 7 width?
Thanks! The rear tires are 16 inch rims x 8 inches wide.
@@jessealt5415 Thank you for the reply and info! I have a Kubota G1900 I am rebuilding as specifically a garden tractor. Removing the deck, adding a front loader and 3-Point hitch. Using the deck hydraulics for the 3-Point hitch. Rotary tiller, cultivator, harrow, turning plow, etc. Have all my implements already except a rotary tiller which I will build and run off the tractor PTO I will extend under and behind the rear-end. Tractor PTO is currently through the front axle pivot making it an easy matter to lengthen the no longer needed deck PTO shaft to a rear mounted carrier bearing. My current tires would only leave me about 3" of rear ground clearance after running the PTO drive shaft under the rear end. I have been looking at going to 14X7's to increase the ground clearance a bit but your 16X8's look so good on your tractor I am now thinking of getting the same size for mine. The 14X7's would fit right on and still clear the fender, but just barely. It wouldn't be too hard to raise the fender and go with those great looking 16X8's! Then I wouldn't have to worry about fender clearance and I get more ground clearance as an extra bonus. Thank you for uploading the video, it has been helpful to me as I am sure it has to many many others! Again thank you for the reply and hope your tractor is still getting the job done!
This is just a fantastic build. I've watched this video at least once in the past and I'll be back to stare at it again and again. It's great inspiration for a custom tractor that I'm building myself. Thank you for taking the time to make this, and post it.
That's great! If you decide to post videos of your build, please come back and let me know. And THANK YOU!

The Relic is one of a kind. Thanks to people that great mechanical minds, is how we have it so much easier these days.
Very true! Thanks!
so to the tiller running backwards but seems fine i thought it should be turned around?
It would might work better turned around, but the fabrication was much easier this way and it works. I think it does a more thorough job this way because any large clumps it throws out get run over again. On the downside, it builds up a wall of dirt that limits how deep it can till without running out of power.
@@jessealt5415 I think I may try it that way also i am always fighting drag the tiller backwards as I till, seems to till better good idea and makes sense

How did you fit back rims
Hi Floyd. I pulled the rims off a Ford van so they fit right on the Ford rear end, no modification needed.

Absolutely amazing build!! The tractor is beautiful. Definitely one of the best homemade tractors I've ever seen!! By the way, where did you purchase the rear tires? Thanks!!

Thanks for sharing. My late grandfather talked about a Model T tractor they made and used on their farm before WW2. No pictures of it survived, so it lives only in our memories. Your tractor is a great treasure of a time gone by.
Hi David. That's too bad that you have no pictures of your grandfather's model T tractor. I'm extremely lucky. Not only did someone have a great camera in my hometown over 100 years ago, but people actually saved the pictures and the tractor. Add to that I got to grow up on land with over a century of family history right next door to my grandparents. Like you, I heard so many great stories of a time gone by.
You did a really nice job. Hats off to you.
Thanks, Brett!
nice work my friend👍💪😉🚜
Thank you! Much appreciated!
That's pretty cool! I'd have never thought to use a jack cylinder until I watched this. Good job, man!
Thanks! I think a 3 point makes a hobby tractor way more useful. It lifts heavy enough stuff to get the front tires off the ground. If it was a real work tractor, though hydraulic or electric would be the way to go.
NICE! You did a great job on that thing!
Thanks! I just checked out the homemade tractor on your channel. I can't wait to see more.
@Jesse Alt Thanks for checking it out. I can't wait to get started on it!
Your tiller is being used the wrong way that’s why the tiller is made to go forward with its tines if you spin the tiller around your tiller would not stall and the soil with not bunch up ahead of it put your tractor in low gear and take your time with the tiller in the opposite direction try it with the tractor in reverse first and see the difference
Hmmm. I didn't think about that. Rear tine tillers spin in reverse so I figured it was OK. I will try it in reverse. Just a few weeks until it's time. Thanks Justin!
Again. I love the manual 3 point hitch system!
Love it!! New sub
Love your build!!
Thank you, Stephen!
Thasts nice... realy nice.😁✌

Hello, Jesse. I've finally gotten around to working on tractor parts. I'm in the process of removing the brackets from the rear, which is almost done. I'll then cut the axles tubes to length and then welding them back on. How wide is the rear on your tractor? I'm thinking about 36" from hub to hub. I have a pair of wheels and R1 tires for the tractor that came from a scissors lift. They are 15" and are the same 5x5.5" as the rear. This had 18" wheels, so it will just run a bit slower. I can get a divorced transfer case from a Datsun truck, and that will give it two ratios for the output to the rear. After the axle tubes are welded, I'll either get the axles cut and welded, or I'll cut them, and get them resplined, which is stronger. I'm taking pictures as I go along, so I'll make a slide show of them when I get farther along.
Hey Bryant! That's great news. Resplined is the way to go for the axles if you have money to spare. Welding is probably strong enough, but won't be perfectly straight. If you can get it good enough to not ruin bearings, that's probably all you need. It’s only going to go a few mph anyway. The back tires on my tractor is 33" so the rear is probably 32" I don't remember exactly.
Absolutely wonderful!! Your grandfather was so talented. I am glad he passed those awesome genes on to you. Thank you for sharing these with us!! That thing sounds wonderful. They do not make things they way they used to.
Thank you, John! That is such a nice compliment. I feel so lucky to have known and learned from him.
@@jessealt5415 Do you still have his machine shop? I am trying to start an old Time Machine shop that runs own steam and has a central belt system. I am still looking for old machinery with stories behind them. I want to start living history museum that works on old obsolete tractors and machines.
