    I bought a Duster, new, in 2016 and I was prepared to 'forgive it' a lot considering the low price. Well...no need; it's been, and still is, really good. Two and a half years and 70, 000 km later nothing squeaks, nothing rattles, nothing's fallen off. The only thing that's failed is one headlight bulb; replaced at a cost of just €6.00 and replaced myself in less than 2 minutes.
    It's comfortable, the cruise control works, the (Renault) satnav is accurate and pop it into 6th and it's a very relaxed cruuser. Deals with potholes well too.
    I've had quite a few cars in my time, some so called 'prestige' brands, some so called 'reliable' brands - that haven't been - and as an overall package none is as good as this.
    Yes, tge interiir trim has a fair bit of hard pladtic but as I ssy...none of it rattles or squeaks, none of it's broken.
    It's incredibly kind on tyres too. An awful ot of tread left, frontband rear, on the Continental rubber fitted. Very economical too with the Renault 1.5 engine.
    I love this thing...an honest car, a Renault/Nissan in disguise.

      @@GeorgeRR hi there. It's an SUV so not designed to be thrown round corners. Having said that, it's pretty good on the twisty bits, better than some others. It leans a bit compared to a saloon - all SUV's do to some extent - but it's as capable as a Qashqai. Not a problem 👍

    Great review, which focuses on who the car is for and what it is worth to them, not people who will axe it on its badge alone.
    If you can look past the badge, this is (for a small/mid-size SUV) a very well designed car, it looks fresh and well balanced.
    It's a real shame that it isn't available with the TCe125 yet (it is on some other countries) , I think that engine completes the car as a very worthy alternative to its competitors.

  • @anthonytube

    So I was loaned a Duster from a local dealer and drove it all day. Bonded with it quickly and found it to be very comfortable, well screwed together inside and very good at soaking up bumps and ruts. Around town and B roads engine (1.6 115) was just fine but struggled on long ascents even with cruise control on it just didn't have the torque to keep at speed. However car was much quieter than I expected and it drove respectably well, in fact I'd say it was refined and despite what another review said the stereo is excellent. On good inspection I noticed some shortcuts so good to mention them: Carpets more like felt, Front wings so thin and flexible could be pulled out of shape by hand. Metal inside rear arches also thin, paint inside door shuts not to same standard as exterior and close up inside wings (with door wide open) a few little lumps and bumps. Also drive shafts already orange with rust. Seen this on all Dacia dusters. BUT and a big but I actually really enjoyed my time with the new Duster, I even hit 90 MPH to see how it felt and it was just fine. The handling is perfectly good, it gripped well, didn't succumb to serious understeer (or body roll) and felt well balanced and nimble (thanks to the thin metal!). I swung it around familiar country roads and not once caused ASR to kick in. The brakes were strong, steering light (not awful either) and the turning circle was great. I returned back to the dealer really impressed. This is certainly way more car than what it needs to be for the price. I might buy one just for weekend camping trips!

      Thank you very much for sharing the feeling on twisty roads, which was a problem according with the other review. Maybe then only highway speed for long distance trips will be too much for the car, or you think it will handle? I travel a 1000 km trip 3-4 times per year.

    So because it doesn’t brake it self automatically it gets 3 out of 5
    Crash rating ?
    What ever did people do before autonomous braking . Oh my god😱 I’m actually going to have to do an emergency stop with my foot. Stop the world !!
    Curious what about cars in the past that have scored 5 and not had autonomous braking ?
    Shouldn’t the emphasis be on the actual safety offered by the car in a crash not marking it down for no gadgets .

    • @DracoRemixer
      @DracoRemixer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mark C I think this is reasonable as I actually prefer the idea of not crashing or being crashed into. If an accident can be prevented all together with some tech, then that's imo the best option. Reasonable, eh?

    • @mark-1rc502
      @mark-1rc502 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      DracoRemixer
      It doesn’t stop another vehicle crashing into your car .
      Perhaps if your a fossils type that’s half asleep or poor reactions it could be a help, but in a city such as London people walk out in front of slow traffic all of the time and expect you to stop sometimes you need to be a bit pushy or you’ll be there all afternoon . Because once you stop people think
      Oh that’s very courteous of you I’ll cross as well and so it continues like a sheep crossing .

    • @DracoRemixer
      @DracoRemixer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mark C 1. No, of course it doesn't stop another vehicle from hitting you, and that's why it's a vital part of Euro Ncap. Sure, passive protection is great and the most essential part, but if an accident can be prevented all together then that's the best option.
      2. Do you know how autonomous braking works? It's disabled at the lowest of speeds (~5 km/h), so "being pushy" with pedestrians isn't an issue, and if it does engage then it's called being reckless. If it's engaged by a pedestrian when travelling at higher speeds then it's basically too late for you to correct and you've just got lucky you don't have a persons life on your conscience. Autonomous braking isn't a smooth and pleasant experience, and the margins available are so small you're pretty much garantueed to hit that person without it. And, let's not forget that you can cancel out autonomous braking if by any chance it's about to engaged when it shouldn't. And one more thing, many of the autonomous systems don't offer pedestrian braking, so this may not even be an issue.

      Again I believe it was based around the Kadjar I haven’t really looked into the Dacia duster or the Kadjar as neither interest me , I was purely going by how I interpreted the woman reviewing the car.
      She kind of implied the only reason it scored low in crash test was because it didn’t have autonomous braking .

    The barefaced cheek of other manufacturers charging almost double for a car of the same size makes Dacia a very attractive proposition indeed. These cars deserve to be a lot more popular than they are, but there are a lot of badge snobs in Britain.

    The reason for autonomous breaking is because people ARE NOT paying attention to the road, road conditions etc. paying attention to their cell phones instead!👎🏻🤮
    What would happen if the cell phone companies went down, and all phones went dead? A lot people would be lost LITERALLY!
    Here in the USA, too many accidents because people have their phones growing out of their ears!

    It all comes down to what people want in a car, what your budget is, a single person, or married w/children.
    All the bells and whistles or basic model.
    I wanted a Jeep Compass Latitude, it fit my budget, the winters are rough here in Chicago and I need 4 wheel drive. It has AC and heat.
    Do I care what people think....nope. It gets me where I need to be and that’s all that matters.
    It’s pretty sad if people judge others on what they drive.
    I love the British perspective on cars and what they prefer in automobiles/suvs.
    Have a great day everyone!🌷🌺😎🌹

      You'd probably see more 'dusters' on the road here in the UK than you would 'Jeeps' to be honest.
      I have a renegade and absolutely love it and would never change it for one of these Dacia's.
      We all like something different, it's what makes the world go around.

    I'm not a badge snob when it comes to cars. Motorbikes, yeah, i have them for fun but I'm not after thrills with a car, they all have the same top speed in a traffic jam. It just needs to be practical and reliable which every owner seems to say with this. Will seriously consider it.

    I’m a fan of this 2018 Dacia duster I especially like the design of it look very good bought one last year predige model top of the line and I just adore if it has 40000 miles on it since I last bought it and had one thing wrong with it the air conditioning donst work but had it fixed by the dealer on warranty absolute gem to drive the cars tyres definitely give it the look with the desert orange paint just a shame donst have a 7 seater option other then that I just love it.

    Great and ideal for a beginner/new driver. No point buying astronomically expensive cars nowadays they loose ridiculous value the moment they leave the dealer and are on the road. My first car was a fiat panda sergio tacchinini. I loved that car, it was so reliable aaahh good times. 😊

      One of the VW sporty Golf models has rap around front side lights. If the LEDs fail or it gets a bit damaged the whole unit has to be replaced at a cost of over £700.!?
      What price a fancy badge? Some of the very expensive cars have so much computer crap in them that if a small inexpensive chip fails it cost thousands in strip down/re-build costs!

      Apparently the car sells well to rich toffs with a huge estate, farmers etc as it’s cheap and with 4x4 can go most places and it doesn’t matter if it gets scuffed here and there. Certainly beats paying 50k on a Land Rover and scuffing that and spending another couple grand fixing scrapes and stuff.

    £250k on cars! Well, I did a rough sum and, having only owned 3 (used) cars since 1982 and serviced them myself my inflation corrected spend on cars including depreciation, fuel, insurance, tax and maintenance has been rather less than half that (and I still have a few years use left in my current car). Clearly I need to work harder at spending the rest while I still can 8-)=

    • @antonarset

      Not only the price, it is very widely used here in Bulgaria, because it is big and cheap, much cheaper than similar cars (similar by size). I know a lot of people driving it and it is excellent. The only problem is the safety... they will never fix it. When it is cheap, it is for a reason. (not always).
