I think it was so important that Wayne had Walter as his father. He taught him so many things…not least of which was how to carry yourself as a person when you have the special abilities that Wayne had. The Great One always respected the game of hockey and its fans so much, he’s always so gracious in every interview, so well-spoken, so dignified. He knew that he’d be expected to be an ambassador for the game and he’s handled that with so much dignity and class all these years.
I am and have always been a HUGE Islanders fan! I hated and still dislike the Oilers, especially Wayne Gretzky! But, as an adult, I have listened to Wayne and see that he is a truly humble person with good values and I really respect him!
Not cool with his incessant promotion of online sports gambling, which only hurts people prone to such addictions and don't have his level of wealth. I would respect him much more if he did not do this. It's not like he needs that income.

back then hockey night in Canada used to replay the games at midnight on Saturday nights , we would be partying at someones house with the game playing and with any luck Edmonton would be playing , some of the plays Gretzky and team would make would stop the party just to watch the replay .... lol it was a amazing
It was around 1998 or 99 in Buffalo after game down by the locker room watched esa tikkanen walk up to walter Gretzky wearing blue jeans running shoes and a Brantford minor hockey jacket .. walter took all the kids and parents to meet the players! My greatest hockey moment and such a proud moment to be Canadian!

In 1983 they walked past the Islanders dressing room and tealized they didnt leave it all on the ice. 1985 they repeated because they realized they needed to be even better than the year before.

It was also very unfortunate that they toar the Jets apart as a condition to letting them into the NHL. I believe they were Avco Cup Champions 3 years in a row at the time.
I crossed paths with Walter Gretzky in the old London Gardens (Ontario) Walter was watching Keith Gretzky play ...Keith skates a lot like Wayne, I noticed ...Keith smooth skater ...Walter was about 10 rows to my left ...Walter easy to recognize 😅🏒

There is a stat that isn’t really a stat but here it is: Among its 1963 assists, at least 150 of them could have been goals scored by him without his generosity towards his teammates. On the other hand, Mike Bossy had the best eyes to score a goal and best stats and is also a record holder. RIP Mike Bossy.

What’s that supposed to mean?? Auston is a very humble person who gives his all every time he’s on the ice. He experienced concussion symptoms and the medical team pulled him from the line-up. He came back and played too soon but gave it everything he had in game 7. So glad he’s a Leaf!!
As a Canadian I’m not happy with Wayne doing commercials for gambling sites. Celebrities are banned now in Canada from endorsing these gambling sites. But he still does them in the US. These addictive on line gambling sites are a cancer to families and destroying young peoples future.

If you’re asking whether a team from 2024 would win in 79, then yes as the game has evolved for 45 years. Better training, diet, nutrition, sleep monitoring has made for better athletes plus modern equipment is light years ahead. In those days, goalies came out covered in bruises after a game.

He probably would’ve have but you can’t give trophies due to ‘probably.’ Also, what if Marcel Dionne had missed one game and it was a game that he didn’t get any points in anyway? I personally think what they should do is get rid of a need for tiebreakers in that situation. Some situations you need tie-breakers, like if two teams have the same number of points and are tied for the last playoff spot. I just don’t think you need it for Art Ross. Why can’t they be co-winners?

We played street hockey with junior A players when we were 11 years old....they had fun with us.....I am not surprised Wayne did the same
