Dick Cavett has been nominated for eleven Emmy awards (the most recent in 2012 for the HBO special, Mel Brooks and Dick Cavett Together Again), and won three. Spanning five decades, Dick Cavett’s television career has defined excellence in the interview format. He started at ABC in 1968, and also enjoyed success on PBS, USA, and CNBC.
His most recent television successes were the September 2014 PBS special, Dick Cavett’s Watergate, followed April 2015 by Dick Cavett’s Vietnam. He has appeared in movies, tv specials, tv commercials, and several Broadway plays. He starred in an off-Broadway production ofHellman v. McCarthy in 2014 and reprised the role at Theatre 40 in LA February 2015.
Cavett has published four books beginning with Cavett (1974) and Eye on Cavett (1983), co-authored with Christopher Porterfield. His two recent books -- Talk Show: Confrontations, Pointed Commentary, and Off-Screen Secrets (2010) and Brief Encounters: Conversations, Magic moments, and Assorted Hijinks(October 2014) are both collections of his online opinion column, written for The New York Times since 2007. Additionally, he has written for The New Yorker, TV Guide, Vanity Fair, and elsewhere.

Ike irks my nerves, he’s just sitting there making faces basically analyzing everything she’s saying when it’s supposed to be a joint interview but Tina held it down, she knew how to talk to people and she’s refreshingly honest

Tina did most of the talking because she was articulate. Ike has a stutter and didn't like being in the spotlight which is why he always had a lead singer for his band. Tina wasn't the passive battered wife she is often portrayed as. She was always a strong woman. Keith Richards recalled a time when Ike & Tina Turner toured with the Rolling Stones he heard fighting from their dress room. Tina emerged from the room looking immaculate and Ike was the one who looked roughed up. Keith said Tina wasn't someone to mess with.

Keith Richards told the story about Ike & Tina in the part one interview with Matt Sweeney a few years ago. Only part two is still available on TH-cam but he isn't the only person who has talked about Tina fighting. Look up any video of Judge Joe Brown talking about Ike & Tina. He doesn't have pleasant things to say about Tina based on what he saw growing up in their neighborhood. He said Ike was nice to the neighborhood kids and Tina was mean. He witnessed Tina curse at Ike and hit him unprovoked while they were out in public.

I feel as though she’s nervous, maybe that people will see/ know what’s really going on, and because she feels she has to keep everything going. This is definitely showing abuse, bless her. Soko Richardson on drums. I met him in 1988 when he was with Albert Collins. Soko introduced me to Ike when they played in Soquel Ca. Ike didn’t say much then either 😎

I never heard this song before, Tina is just so dang sexy! It is weird watching them talk, and when Dick asks about arguments, knowing that Ike used to beat her. Thank all the powers that she got away from that BS and continued to sing and live a happy life!

The body language is very telling here and the fact that he barely talks which is on him but at the same that was on him and she is the star. Now as we all know she probably paid in many ways for that privately for that. Carson and Cavett who all joked about Ike being the silent one etc not knowing that this was something going on behind the scenes and his control over her….

"Let Me Touch Your Mind" was written by saxophonist Oliver Sain. I never realized the similarity to Otis Redding's songs, but I know Ike and Tina were fans because they performed some of his songs. They did great renditions of "I've Been Loving You Too Long" and "I Can't Turn You Loose."

Bless her heart. I bet she was mentally exhausted with it all. She was such a STRONG woman. On the other hand, Ike was a very talented man and did a lot for her in the early days. Had he not taken drugs perhaps he wouldn't have been so controlling and angry and overtly promiscuous. Who knows. It's sad that 2 amazing talents brought together should harbour such corruption and malice. I guess it was a chemistry with both positive and negatives throughout. He hit women before Tina, so it wasn't the drugs. Tina said he "had problems". He was damaged. Drugs and her fame certainly didn't help. Probably a narcissist with npd.
Tina said he beat up women prior to her and he even beat up other males to. She said he slept all types of women who were married to and didn’t care. She said he ruled his life with sex. He was a demon.

She did write a book that the film was based on so people did know, the film just made it visual so it became engrained in people's minds more.

In one of the Janis's appearances (the one on the DVD set of musical appearances on the show), Cavett asks her about singers she likes and she songles out Tina Turner. Cavett says he has not heard of her. Janis extolls her, and a few years later here she is on the show.

Cavett figures out quickly he better just talk with Tina. When he tries to talk with Ike and the beginning he doesn't get a response.
It's very awkward to watch when you know the whole story.
