    It's time to bring what we've learned about Lollipop Spin Dyes over to TH-cam. We've done a number of these during live streams over on our Facebook page, but wanted to tie one up a little tighter over here into a full commentary tutorial.
    As always, we hope that you've learned enough from this little video to feel the urge to grab some fresh plastic, an old turntable, and some dye to give it a try on your own. You'd be surprised what comes from Doing It! Hope you enjoy!
    We've had a surprising number of requests to make some of these discs for other people come in, which it pretty cool and very flattering. Hit us up at differenceisdoingit@gmail.com or on Facebook if you're interested in a custom custom drawn or dyed disc, we'll work something out.
    As always, if the good times grabbed you hit those Like and Subscribe buttons...maybe even that Bell. We'll keep drumming up more.
    Keep Doing It!

    Question...After the dye drys, what then??? Do you let dry like paint, or do you let it dry and wash the residue off??? I tried spinning dye jobs, but the dye dried and chipped off like dried paint 😩
    Awesome dye job 👍👍👍

    • @TheDifferenceisDoingIt
      @TheDifferenceisDoingIt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm, dried and chipped off like paint makes me wonder if you're using the right stuff. I'm using Quick Coat Worm Dip here. The dye takes to the plastic right away, and spare a little residue left behind is set to jet once you're done. I give them all a soapy cold water rinse when I'm finished to take care of that. Hope that helps bud, and thanks for the kind words.

      Close James, did this one 100% with Worm Dip. I like using Worm Dip best while spinning I think. Don't have to worry about the mix, they have tons of colors that all pop off the disc, and the smell isn't quite a strong. All of it should work fine though, just personal preference at this point.

    • @TheDifferenceisDoingIt

      You're in a good spot Andreas, iDye should work just fine. It doesn't take much mixed with acetone, I mix roughly 1/8 tsp to about 2 oz of acetone. But really it's an eyeball measurement that I'll add more powder or acetone to as I need. Hit us with some pics of what you come up with bud!

    • @TheDifferenceisDoingIt
      @TheDifferenceisDoingIt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Ryan! Usually just give it a soapy cold water rinsing once it's finished and that's about it. • @TheDifferenceisDoingIt
      @TheDifferenceisDoingIt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a dumb question Brayden. If you want to spin over a stamp you'll have to mask it first to preserve it. Otherwise the acetone in the dye will streak it right out. I like using school glue best for masks while spinning.

      Hey now Justin! Both Spike It and Quick Coat Worm Dip work well. I guess if I were forced to pick between the two it would be the later. You don't need to mix either with anything, they're ready to go right out of the bottle no fuss.

  • @mikehosier1239
    @mikehosier1239 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This looks super fun and looks super cool. I need to get a record player! Question if I just have idye poly can I make it liquid with water to do this method? How much powder per fluid ounce? Or should I buy a different dye?

    • @TheDifferenceisDoingIt
      @TheDifferenceisDoingIt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can definitely use iDye Poly for spin dyeing, but I would mix it acetone or alcohol instead of water. I don't really have an exact measurement there, but if I were forced to guess I would say 1/4 tsp of iDye to about 3 oz of acetone. Equally as important as the ration is making sure all of the powder is fully mixed and dissolved into the acetone. That said, I typically like to use Worm Dip when I'm spinning because it's premixed and set to go right out of the bottle.

    • @mikehosier1239

    • @TheDifferenceisDoingIt

      I use both Spike It and Quick Coat. If I were forced to choose, I like the Quick Coat colors better and the Spike It black better but they all work well. If you're spinning with them they should be goo to go right after putting it to the disc. A cold water rinse to help it set, and wipe down with a paper towel to get any residual dye off is always a good idea though. Hope that helps bud!

      @TheDifferenceisDoingIt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't spin in reverse under power, but I can spin it the other way manually. That's one of the advantages of getting a direct drive turntable. That said, you don't need to spin the disc in the other direction to get "lefty swirls", you just have to move you brush in the opposite direction while making it. On this disc "righty swirls" I move the brush from the top of the section to the bottom, and the "lefty swirls" from the bottom to the top. Hope that helps bud.

      Hell yeah Everett, looks dope! I'm surprised you got the Fiebing's to work that well spinning with it, I never had much success. I'm sure it'll dry the same that way though, fully dry in about a day and cures in about three. Honestly my Fiebing's has been collecting dust on the shelf since I started hot dipping for black. It get much cleaner and more consistent results, definitely worth giving a try. As far as spinning goes I prefer using Worm Dip, it's set to jet right out of the bottle and the disc is good to go as soon as you're done. Hope all that helps bud, feel free to DM me anytime over on FB or IG if you have more questions. Good luck in the giveaway bud!
