  • Furnace not working or wont turn on. Is your furnace not working or perhaps the furnace is turning on but only for a few seconds? Turns on and off repeatedly. In this video I go over the most common furnace problem. This is the all-time reigning champion. The furnace flame senor. I show how to find it, where it is located, what to look out for, how to clean it, and other helpful tips. This video is pretty much flame sensor 101. I have another video that is flame sensor 102. If you would like more information on the flame sensor, do check out the other video as well.

-30 here this morning (Winnipeg Canada) and out for my morning skate when my wife called and the house is only 17C and the furnace wasn't working. Rushed home, wife had every elec heater she could find on, oven on, oven door open and fireplace burning on full. I panicked, (Sun AM) then watched the above video and amazing, cleaned the sensors and the furnace is up and running. THANK YOU for the help and the added "husband" points I earned from my wife!!!!

Sir, I sincerely thank you and have the upmost respect for you and your scholastic provision! I am a single mom and when these type of break downs occur, I pray to God for a way to resolve them. In this instance, my furnace stopped blowing hot. I was guilty of forgetting to change out the filters, so they were indeed dirty. Your repair guidance defined the issues and provided me with the knowledge and skillset to resolve it within a matter of minutes. I can only imagine what you saved me in charges I would’ve incurred from an HVAC tech. Needless to say, I’m forever grateful to your angelic covering during this obstacle.🙏😊

Yes ma’am glad you found this, many companies (especially dealing with ac) charge 80-100 just to show up (no way to get around it but still very high) then mark up the part, then might even throw In a 30 dollar charge for 5 minutes of labor. For the other commenters here some companies are honest but no sense in paying 80 for someone to show up then mark up a product someone could get for 20-30 and put in themself. I renovate houses and have dealt with dozens of companies for numerous situations and it’s wild the range of proves companies will charge for replacing a cheap part.

Weather lady says a snowstorm is coming. It’s currently 36° and temperatures are dropping. My wife and kids keep saying it’s getting colder and colder. I’m ignoring them and then I start to notice that it is getting colder. I check the thermostat at 68° in the house but the desired temp is on 74. I must say everything that you described in your video between the cycling on and off cutting and then off for three hours to the letter was happening. I went through your entire instruction video with my son and in less than 15 minutes we had the furnace up and running again. I thank you so much. I am a subscriber, liked &commented. Fantastic video! I called what I thought was a reputable local HVAC company On a Friday to do a tune up on my Lennox forced air Gas heater. Since they couldn't come out until Monday I searched around and found your video. I have a 5 burner system and only 2 of them were working. After viewing your video I knew exactly what would be done in a cleaning and tune up. HVAC tech arrived and ran his vacuum in the heater for about 10 min. He called me in for the bad news. I needed a whole new heater to the tune of appx $7,000 USD. He said it was beyond repair. I said he did nothing on the tune up list and got his boss to refund the service call fee as it was really just a sales call. I then did the tune up steps you outline but instead of cleaning the burner I just bought a new one for $84. Just installed it and everything is working great. Thanks again for your fantastic videos!

I have been doing Plumbing and HVAC work for 30 years and I agree 100% with video. The flame rod for the most part just needs cleaned. I have never replaced a flame rod in all my 30 years of servicing furnaces but I have cleaned 100’s. I have been on service calls after other techs that said they cleaned the flame rod. But they try to clean them with out taking them out, just scraping it with a screwdriver, all different things. Some are hard to get out, but you have to take it out and clean it with the green scotch brite pad. I have heard of technicians saying they needed replaced, and that’s because they didn’t know what they where doing. Just clean it and save the customers all that money. It might only be $10.00 for a new flame rod but it $89.00 for another service call and travel time.

Sir, you just helped me fix my heat! Mine was not the ignitor or flame sensor, as I did check and clean both. My problem was the gas unit or line was some how stuck/clogged. I tap the flame pipes and the gas unit with the plastic end of a screw driver and a small flame sparked then went out. I tapped it again as the ignitor came on then all 4x flames ignited. I guess since it all sat dorment all summer n now its starting to be a chilly fall, i need to crank on the heater once in the summer to keep it working.
