Visiting Space Center Houston NASA In 2022

- In this video we decided to take a day trip down to Space Center Houston in the Clear Lake Area about a 45 minute drive south of Houston. We weren't sure what to expect given the pandemic had just ended but it was a pretty enjoyable day as the weather was great and there were not that many people.

God I love the space center. When I was about 7 or 8 when I was a Cub Scout, they let a few of our troops actually camp out and spend the night in the center. It was awesome to sleep under the Star lit ceilings and wake up to use the bathroom forcing you to walk through ISS simulated corridors in the dark. So awesome!!!
I can only imagine how fun that must have been! I remember doing those sorts of overnighters when I was younger as well but in places that were not nearly as cool as NASA....but still fun as hell nonetheless. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!

@@JodyJody Hi, yes you can simply walk up and purchase a ticket at one of the booths near the entrance. They also have discounted tickets if you plan on visiting multiple Houston attractions. I believe it is called the Houston CityPass. It's nice to have if you know you'll be visiting a bunch of places but if you plan on only visiting NASA I would just stick with buying a single ticket there. Thanks for watching!

@@JC-li8kk Yes, you’re entrance ticket includes what you mentioned. Whatever is not included will be clearly indicated once you arrive.
I’ve been here before. Honestly Stunning. It is absolutely HUGE. The price is worth it. There are interactive things that show about physics and other things. I definitely recommend coming here.

To add, I love the reservation system a lot better than the way they used to do it tor the tram tours. However, I would recommend downloading the app and using the app to make reservations, which is a lot more convenient and can be done anywhere in the museum. The best part is you no longer have to stand in line for well over an hour and you can enjoy the exhibits and Independence Plaza, as well as dining in the Food Lab or even see a show while waiting in a virtual line for your tour.

I've seen only one Saturn 5; at the KSC. I always knew how big that rocket is, but nothing prepared me for the first time that I saw it and all I could say was "Holy shit!"

4:55 The space station shown is Skylab. Two Skylabs were made: one went into orbit on the last Saturn 5, the other went into the National Air and Space Museum.
5:50 Shuttle Independence, formerly named Explorer, was moved from the KSC Visitor Center to make room for the Shuttle Atlantis exhibit.
Okay, you've wet my whistle. Houston is now on my To-Do List, next trip to the US.

We'll be glad to see you. I volunteer at Space Center Houston (SCH) and have been to KSC. I like the Saturn V at SCH much better since it's displayed at ground level and without distraction. You really get a much better sense for its size the way it's displayed in Houston. Also, it is the only complete, flight certified Saturn V left. The rocket at KSC and in Huntsville have mock-ups for 3rd stage. That said, Houston is more like a museum than an amusement park like KSC. If you love history, and want to walk in the steps of legends from Apollo, you'll love Houston, especially when you visit the historic Apollo 11 mission control room. There's also a VIP tour that will take you into many of the Johnson Space Center buildings. If questions, don't hesitate!

I understand that the KSC Saturn 5 second and third stages are the real thing and were intended for Apollo 19. The first stage displayed, on the other hand, was a test rig. The real Apollo 19 first stage is displayed somewhere else - I have seen a photo, but have forgotten the location.
@@MarsFKA Awesome, feel free to hit me for tips on visiting Houston and Space Center Houston. I check my research, you are correct, the KSC Saturn V FIRST stage isn't the flight certified article, it is a test article. The Saturn V at Houston is all flight certified. It's difficult to say exactly which mission each stage was to fly on, since stages were interchangeable. But most sources and SCH believes 3rd stage would have been Apollo 18, 2nd stage Apollo 20, and 1st stage Apollo 19. I had my reference to Skylab mixed up a bit. The converted 3rd stage for Skylab (which never flew) is in Washington DC. There was another 3rd stage that was converted for Skylab, but it burned on reentry.
I wonder if it's a good idea to go right now during summer? Or if the facility has air conditioning inside?
It depends on your tolerance for heat. Some people don’t mind the heat but personally, I would prefer going during the winter months. The main area is within a building so it is air conditioned. Plenty to see there for sure. Thanks for watching!
How long did you stay there? Was it a full day visit?
We were only there for about a half day but that’s because we aren’t the types to stay at places for very long. You can easily spend the whole day there if you want. It al depends on how thorough you want to be. But anything more than a day is overkill in our opinion. Thanks for watching!

I plan on going in February. Is the VIP worth it?
We did not partake in the VIP experience but if it were up to me I’d skip any VIP experience anywhere. 90% of the time the experience isn’t worth the extra cost. The standard ticket will get you access to more than enough in our opinion. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching!

Hey there, thanks for watching. We live in Houston so we did not stay in a hotel or worry about transportation as NASA is within driving distance for us. If you give me an idea of how you plan on traveling then maybe I can help. Do you plan on using public transportation, taxis, or rideshares or do you plan on renting a car? What is your budget for hotel? I would need that kind of information in order to properly give you advice.

I lagged on getting this out so I can’t remember the exact date but I want to say it was some time in March of this year when we went. If you are going with kids it is definitely a place you can spend a whole day at. There is a huge wealth of information from exhibits to shows and more. You’ll enjoy it. And you can also swing by Kemal Boardwalk nearby which is another great spot to visit. Thanks for watching!

Yes, during the time we were there a mask was required. That was back in February almost 6 months ago. Things could have changed but if I were to guess, I'd say that masks are probably still required.
