I headcanon that Goldenrod hired Jawbone thinking he'll be a bad guidance counselor as a middle finger to Principal Aguefort, fully not expecting him to be the absolute best man for the job
@@ilikepineappleonpizza4257 Oh no no, Gilear was applying for a job at an academy of the rowdiest teenagers in all of Spyre, and Goldenrod could tell from a glance he was woefully unprepared. He hired Gilear to spite Gilear.
Imagine going to a nightclub as a teenager, nearly getting maimed by one of the drug dealers there, recommending he apply for work at your school so he can get healthcare as a bit, and then he’s the best guidance counselor ever and also becomes your dad.
As a DM, I have to admire the excellent way he handled this. He correctly clocked that Adine's disadvantage on Fear checks was going to be WAY too much of a drawback for her character during a fight against a dragon with Fearful Presence and would likely lead to frustration as she struggled to do anything. Not only did he level the playing field for her, but he also did so with an amazing character moment for her. Best DM!
the fact that he starts off an inspirational speech with “listen, i was in a truck stop bathroom sucking off a border patrol-“ is why i love jawbone so damn much.
Fabian telling Ragh that Jawbone does drugs so he'll go visit him ----> Jawbone giving proper guidance to Ragh leading him to accepting himself for who he is and becoming a better person.
I want to point out that the REASON he wanted that job was the health insurance to cure his lycanthropy, but in the process he decided to embrace it and help kids embrace whatever "character flaws" society puts on them. Icon.
I don’t know which I love more, Fig being all in baby 100% vibing with Jawbone right from the start when no one else trusted him, or Adaine initially being the most dismissive because she doesn’t expect people to be kind until Jawbone gives her the grownup reassurance and wisdom she’s been missiNG HER ENTIRE LIFE AAAAAA
@James Pryor the point is her trust is hardest won and it’s lovely when it happens. more accurate phrasing might have been “she expects people to be cruel” or “she has developed a black and white view of people from being in survival mode all the time”
You can literally plop me in no buildup into the scene with jawbone and adaine and I will tear up every time. Even just “my parents left and I don’t know where they are” and the big furry hug. God. He’s the best.
As a girl with anxiety and panic attacks, Jawbone and Adaine's scene always makes me cry. It is not a character flaw. You are not a a coward. You just need medicine. It's cut out but just after he gives her the meds Brennan says "You no longer roll disadvantage on fear checks." and that hits me so fucking hard. The day I finally got the care I needed was like suddenly being able to move again after my head held me down for so long. Jawbone (Brennan) really is the man ever.
tbh jawbone the best kind of person. good heart, good intentions, shoots straight, isn’t afraid to be honest about his past (and even overshares sometimes), wants everyone to be comfortable and healthy; he would be judged only by the type of people who consider themselves “good people” but in reality only use a supposed moral code to feel superior to others (the Abernants come to mind) tbh i relate to Jawbone a lot because i’m also the type of person to be bluntly honest or use swearing for emphasis when impassioned (i’m also neurodivergent, big shocker). but there are a lot of people who view those things as rude or social faux paws, and pass judgement based solely on those artificial social standards rather than the truth of the statements, effectively positing that bluntness or profanity devalues or negates any argument no matter how correct or just. they uphold adherence to social posturing over the desire for true justice and authenticity. it’s an attitude i’ve never understood, because i only ever take offense when people push forth arguments that ultimately deny paths to genuineness, justice, transparency, and wellness (for themselves or others). because outside of that, nothing else really matters, and to me that makes a good person more than anything. and it’s why everyone should be like Jawbone.
Yes absolutely!! I relate to the stuff you said about people viewing stuff as rude, I experience a lot of that too. And also Jawbone is so great, like. my man turned his life around. my man got a job as a guidance counselor said, "alright I don't really have the qualifications for this, but I'm gonna work my ASS off and be the best damn guidance counselor there ever has been" and then he DID. and I love him for that
That talk that Jawbone had with Adaine will forever make me cry. As someone with anxiety, I get a lot of internal panic attacks, meaning my panic attacks dont often show when I'm having them. In so many social gatherings, meet ups, or just when I'm going outside to where a bunch of people are, I've felt a sense of social panic, and anytime I wanna talk about it I think that my anxiety wasn't valid because I rarely showed it. I can only think of a handful of times where even my panic attacks had enough and just needed to show physically. I know I have anxiety but the way my coping works makes me feel like I'm not valid, so I never tried to get medication for it because I didn't think it was bad enough. Jawbone just makes me realize that I am sick, like Adaine, and I just need to get some medicine. I just love it.
Internal panic attack?! That’s a thing?! There’s a word for it?! I have anxiety mostly social and I’m scary good at hiding break downs so no one ever knows anything’s wrong. I’d love a Jawbone in my life 🥲
@@cospaws8810I have both anxiety attacks and panic attacks, and I believe internalized panic episodes like that are just like my anxiety attacks. I believe that's the medical term you're looking for! ❤ I was in the same position. While I do have outright panic attacks, my "silent" ones tend to be the more frequent of the two. Much like what many here have described -- can also involve dissociation, derealization, etc, as they typically have for me. It was so nice to finally have an explanation for it, as I was in the same boat of others around me rarely knowing something was wrong or that I was distressed. (Sometimes, to outsiders, it may look like you're simply zoning out.) Solidarity, fam! 🎉❤😊
@@ElocinMuse Yeah, I’ve always just been a person to “check out” of things. Sometimes positive like daydreaming, sometimes negative like being triggered. Definitely on my list of things to bring up once I get a therapist.
i love that knowing goldenhoard its incredibly likely he hired jawbone cause he thought jawbone was gonna fuck up the kids. but turned out he was the best guidance counselor/adoptive father to like half the bad kids, they cluld have asked for
As a non-monogamous person myself, I feel so bad for him for what Sandra Lynn did to him in season 2. He agreed to stay monogamous for her, only for her to cheat on him.
My eternal gratitude for this, Jawbone is my absolute favorite and i kept looking for jawbone compilation and not finding any. Love him and this so much
Due to a werewolf's regeneration ability, the sheer amount of drugs needed to get him high must look like that pile of cash Joker slid down in the "The Dark Knight".
The NPC of Fantasy high are the main reason I love those seasons the best! I mean the PC are usually amazing in every season and I love them all, but name another campaign with as many iconic NPCs! We have Jawbone, Gilear, Ragh, Ayda, Aurthur Aguefort, the Hangman and the list goes one!!
I actually believed that Jawbone might be her dad, not her uncle. I have known of some RL examples of people who act as a different part of the family than they were, and him being such a mess-up and her 'real' dad taking care of her but actually being her uncle, and Jawbone being her 'uncle' but actually being her dad? Would totally believe that.
I always caught the vibe that they aren’t related at all, he just took her under his wing because she was young, and needed help figuring out her lycanthropy. Tracker probably has a complicated relationship with her Bio dad, given her past w/ Helio and her lycanthropy, so maybe she just isn’t comfortable calling him “dad.
that's so true ive never seen another man i dont think
Brennan invented men, and then Zac invented feminism 😂
I now measure all men to jawbone it’s called standards
As you should
I aspire to be Jawbone
That's a high bar but nothing else would be worth aspiring to
That bar is way too high but honestly we should all have high standards.
