    As a HO modeler, I'm not a fan of ST couplers. My biggest issue with their couplers in the past were couplers sticking open. I replace everything with Kadee 158s. 119s for tank cars and 156s on locomotives with snowplow.

    • @IMRROcom

    I hear you, Eric.You have provided a bunch of good tips. I have the same issue with couplers on my Kato locomotives. I love the locomotives themselves, but the couplers on them are crap. They definitely don't play well with the Micro-Trains couplers on my freight cars. So, I'm condemned to replace them with MT couplers. I just wish Kato would put MT couplers on its locomotives so that I wouldn't have to do it. ...Roy

      I've been using MTR couplers since the mid 80's. Kato was still using rapido couplers and producing product for Con-cor back then. The MTR Kadee couplers came out in the early 70's. I've been a fan of N scale since the late 60's. Kato should work out a deal with Micro-trains for their loco couplers. I always wind up replacing the Kato couplers, they are unreliable. By the way great job on the video, I think Scale-trains did come out with a new coupler that I hear works great.

    Kinda late to the party however Imo I'm not a fan of mt couplers, not that they don't work I'm just not a fan of scissor type couplers.I do prefer the Mc Henry style coupler despite the size and I do understand some people don't like the spring on the side as it breaks there immersion... I fix the non coupling issue by fine tuning the spring on the knuckle by cutting it down and lubing the moving elements with fine graphite powder, they couple fine after and even work with my uncoupling magnets as I don't like skewers or picks for uncoupling... Just my opinion tho...

    I just wish MTL would release something similar in design like the Athearn McHenry couplers, they perform very well but they dont like to interact with MTL couplers at all. I'd replace so many non-MTL couplers if they did release the 1015 with those outer centering whiskers.

    Hello, great video... I have problems with those buds, but in my case they are the ones that the scale trains and BLI locomotives come with, in N scale. Every time they enter an area of curves with a radius of 30 cm, the car that comes connected to them, it derails (The capacity of the horizontal angle of movement of the knuckle arm is limited, which generates this problem. I don't know if this has happened to you and if so, how you solved it. I have no problems with the Kato locomotives, Tomix, Atlas and in general with no other... Are these locomotives....What do you suggest I do?

    you seem to know a lot about couplers so, I have a question. I'm in the process of gathering components for my small layout. I bought some Kato starter sets to get track and trains that I wanted. Now, all I need is a couple of boxcars to complete my "wish list". As almost all my trains are Kato I am finding it impossible to locate any boxcars to purchase. With your knowledge of couplers, is there another brand that will couple with Kato couplers? Thanks.

    • @IMRROcom
      @IMRROcom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kato couplers are normally all just replaced with Micro Trains Couplers. The problem with Kato cars is harder to replace the couplers on them most other cars. Like Atlas etc. It is all so a good ide to replace the couplers on you kato engines with Micro trains. You will find that Kata couplers have a bad habit of derailing the car behind the engine when you are pushing a string of car. If you have a full wet of car like passenger cars that are kato and pull only I just leave them as they work fine for that usage in passger equipment that is normally just pulled.

    To be honest, N scale modelers should replace ALL couplers that deviate from their personal standard. Even in HO scale having a mix of couplers makes a mess of operations. Pick one type that works for you and replace every coupler in your fleet (wallet permitting, of course).

      Leslie Gilpin I did not know KATO changed their couplers,
      But in KATO defence. Kato couplers do look realistic. I do think Kato came out with their couplers before or at the same time as the MTL couplers. During that time no standard was really set for N scale couplers.
