- Unboxing of the Auber PID Temperature Control Retrofit KIT for Rancilio Silvia.
Items included with the kit :
PID Controller with a brushed stainless steel front-plate
Aluminium enclosure for the controller
Solid State Relay
Platinum RTD termostat
Heat-resistant wires
Thermal Paste
Cable ties
I’ve received the package (from US to Europe) in three working days. The installation itself took about 1-2 hours as i absolutely didn’t want to rush with it. Auber has also provided a PDF with instructions. It looks better than i expected and feels great, very solid and high quality built. The display is white and bright, the system itself is easy to navigate. The improvement is significantly noticeable.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments and i’ll get back to you as soon as i can.

she actually looks great with this PID ♥️ good job!
Thank you 🥰
I just bought the same pid. Thanks for all your videos! Hope I’ll manage to install it properly 🤞 can’t wait ...
Hi Quentin, thanks for the comment snd kind words! Good job on getting the PID, you won’t regret. You’ll manage, don’t worry. Let me know how it went!
@@Jaroslav. that’s it. I made it ! After almost 3 hours of fear and sweat! It seems to work properly :)
For the moment I leave the default settings. step by step ...
Good job! Of course, you’ll figure out how it works down the road. If you have any questions let me know!
Congratulations! I am looking forward to your next video.
Thank you!
Congratulations, I guess no more temperature guessing!
It’ll be very interesting to know your findings on workflow and shot taste differences. Perhaps you’ll have to change your motto from not a perfect...to almost perfect 😉
Hi Jose, thank you. Definitely, no more guessing! I’ve pulled some great (almost perfect) and very consistent shots today, the difference is noticeable right away. It’s worth the effort!
@@Jaroslav. hi 👋 , those are great news!
Cheers!
Installed mine (same model) on my V6 yesterday. PID controller doesn’t power 😔 Can I check: the connection to the power switch is the same as the instructions except top (Silvia black cable) and bottom (Silvia red cable) instead of left and centre (as per step C3 in the instructions)? Multimeter reads voltage at terminals (1) and (2) but no LEDs light nor does the boiler heat up. Think they’ve sent me a dud 😢
Hi Alex, i’m sorry to read that! Don’t worry, i’m sure it’s an easy fix. Did you get the one with Steam/Pre-infusion? Or the one for the temperature only?
@@Jaroslav. temp only.
Great, you should also have another file named “Silvia E note for RSRTDNb”. You can find the steps on how to connect the cables to the brew switch there. You don’t connect the cables to the on/off switch on the V6. Can you make sure you followed those steps correctly? If you don’t have the file i could share it for you.
@@Jaroslav. hah! You’re kidding! Yes, I’ve got that file. Maybe I should read it, then! Thanks so much (for highlighting my stupidity!)!
That can happen, no worries Alex. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
Hi @Jaroslav!
I have ordered the same PID for my V6. Hopefully I get the wiring managed. I have watched some videos already, in which they also connect a grounding wire. But it seems that this grounding wire is not in the Kit? Greetings and keep up the good work!
Hi René, thank you and well done! Same with this kit, I suppose the temperature-only kit for newer models doesn’t require additional grounding. You probably found videos for installing the “pre-infusion” kit, that could use a different power source. I suggest you ask Auber if their instructions aren’t sufficient. I haven’t had any issues with mine. I hope that helps!
Looks amazing! time to get one :)
Thanks Audrius, you won’t regret it!
Nice. I'm thinking about getting a V6 soon or just go for the pro
I'd rather suggest you go with the Pro if you can. The V6 with PID has a fairly decent brew temp. stability, but the Pro is on a different level (Pro being twice as accurate as the benchmark for machines used in WBC).
@@Jaroslav. Thanks for the advice. Great vids, keep them coming 👍
Anytime!
how difficult was it to install? any other tools required like soldering? im not really a handyman...
Hi Kalvin. The installation went smoothly, took about an hour and a half. Soldering wasn’t necessary, it’s literally plug and play. I recommend going through the instructions a few times while your kit is in transit, it boosts confidence and gives you a steady hand once you begin with installation. It’s just plugging/unplugging a couple of cables, nothing you couldn’t handle. I found it easier to read the instructions rather than watching videos, every little step is explained in detail. You’ll know what to do even before the package arrives. Let me know if you run into something, I’ll be happy to respond!
Hi Jaroslav .... I have not yet seen all your great videos, but have you posted a list of all your gear anywhere (in one of your videos)? I would be interested in knowing who makes some of your equipment and possibly where one can get them. Thanks in advance.
Hi Vincent, thanks for asking!'m not affiliated or endorsed by any of these brands, i don't necessarily share links to where i'd get the items from. But if you're interested in something particular, please let me know!
@@Jaroslav. thanks for the quick reply. I fully understand re: no endorsement ... no need to give out links, but any chance you can tell me who makes the scale, the tamper matt and the black knock box you use and that I see in your wonderfully created videos? Please and thanks in advance.
Absolutely, anytime! As mentioned, the scale is manufactured by Felicita (www.felicitacoffee.com/shop/). The tamping mat is from JoeFrex (joefrex.com/). I don't know about the knockbox, sorry. It was a present and doesn't have a branding on it. I hope that helps!
@@Jaroslav. Perfect. Thank you and keep up the great videos
Anytime Vincent, thank you!
Hi! Did you get any shower screen upgrade? Having a hard time with my V6 experience and ims screens
Hi Marcos. Yes, got one back in September. It’s a huge improvement compared to the stock screen and worlds apart quality-wise. You can read more about my particular IMS screen here:
www.imsfiltri.com/docce/ra200nt/
I’ve also replaced the stock screw with a stainless steel slotted mushroom bolt, here are the results:

I hope that answers your question well!
@@Jaroslav. did you get tempted by the shower screen mod (www.pidsilvia.com/screen.htm)? That mushroom bolt looks the best compromise over a countersunk solution tbh (and you get to use the IMS shower).
Actually no, i'd probably never go with that mod. I've noticed that the Linea Mini uses a similar screw and that brought me to the idea.
@@Jaroslav. Well, if it's good enough for a Linea!!
That’s what i thought!
Nice 🔥
Absolutely!
What temperature do you set the PID at ? I have the same set up, I noticed my shots are bitter
HI Jonathan, thank you for asking. You will have to find a temperature that fits best for the coffee you're currently having. I'm changing between 89-96 °C, sometimes even 97°C. If you're interested, have a read on this particular topic on my blog :
jaroslav.io/?p=112
I hope that helps!
Did you get the one with the pre-infusion or standard and do you think it's worth the extra money for the pre in fusion?
Hi, thank you for asking! I got the KIT-RSRTDNb without pre-infusion/steam control. The pre-infusion is definitely not worth paying extra. What’s worth paying for is the steam control which could come in handy for some, but i personally never had issues with steaming on the machine.
@@Jaroslav. Thanks for the reply. This is good to know. I just ordered my Silvia and can't wait to try it! I'll probably be getting the same kit as you. I heard great things about the steaming on this machine. Keep up the great vids. You have a new subscriber!
Thank you, i really appreciate that! If you intend to do a lot of steaming and milk-based drinks, you’d probably upgrade to a dual boiler (or a heat-exchanger) at some point anyways.
@@Jaroslav. You're welcome. I do not plan on making too many milk based drinks, only when I have guests but then again, having the convenience of lattes 24/7 might change that :)
Just wondering, have you considered the mecoffee PID instead? if so, why not that one?
Hi and thanks for asking! I absolutely have considered it some time ago. I would without a doubt prefer to have the uBarista app and the PID hidden inside of the machine. But apart from it being discontinued since 2018 (i think) the issue with meCoffee is that it's not reliable and based on it's history far from as solid as Auber's PID. I hope you find my answer helpful Chris.
Hi Jaroslav! Super! How much is? Where did you order it?👍
Hi Ivan, thank you! I've ordered it directly from Auber, here's a link :
