House/Techno music has left the counter-culture decades ago and Peggy Gou has always heavily used advertising to generate incomes and boost her career (partnerships with various brands, TV commercials, product placements... way before she came to Berlin). She knows how (and surely seems to enjoy) to market herself: acts cool, looks good, very active on social media and plays the feminist card when necessary (funny when you know she uses her image to sell cosmetics and luxury goods). She's an opportunist, and she's very good at it. Music (mostly cockail/festival DJing) is secondary and hers (rare LPs) is average at best.

There are still a lot of artists who willingly stick to a fairly low profile, for example, Vril, Helena Hauff, Traumprinz, Speedy J and even Dixon (who is popular and is often the main headliner at large festival slots) talks about trying to maintain a balance between the mainstream and underground. At the end of the day Peggy can do what she wants to do and that’s fine but she’s best known for her DJ’ing and in my opinion this constant and continued non-related advertisement is a poor trajectory which just dilutes her long term identity and authenticity.
