This announcement quite literally took my breath away. Easily one of my favorite games of all time and this game was one of the games I played growing up that got me into JRPGs in general.
I still remember the first time I played this game. It was at my buddy's place, he had a modded PS1 with a burnt copy of SO2. I was just blown away by everything about it. Great game all around

It does a lot of interesting things. Its more fantasy than sci fi. The locals think the MC is a hero because they think he has super powers (it's just a laser gun).
This game holds a lot of good memories...namely involving a friend of mine who died recently. Through him I got to enjoy this game. We'd share laughs, repeat lines for fun ("Ten Seconds.") and I'd continue to learn about things I never did due to lack of understanding. Now that it's coming back...I'll run through again. For you, buddy. I'll see this game to the end.

They stayed true to the spritework, and completely overhauled the environments. The environments even look similar to the pre-rendered backgrounds in the original. It looks incredible! I recently rediscovered my PSP port of this game, but I think I might wait to play this instead.
I have waited so many years to see this remake. I've watched this trailer like two dozen times. The new design is amazing and that Fields of Expel arrangement in the background is SO GOOD! That chorus is rocking it!
I've been wanting a Second Evolution port after they did it with First Departure but I would never, in a million years, expect an actual remake with this Octopath Traveler style. I'm literally crying tears of joy watching this.
They DID port it but it was PSP only and locked to JP region...I was wondering for awhile while we got EVERY OTHER GAME but 2nd Story available on current systems - this explains it lol
I've been waiting for this game to release on the Switch in some capacity and am blown away by this reveal! It looks AMAZING! I was originally just hoping for a port of the PSP remake, but they went above and beyond! I played this a ton as a kid and more recently loved the original Star Ocean's remake on Switch and am beyond ready to dive back into this story!

She likely is Square Enix made ANOTHER TH-cam video where the PA from 2nd Evolution of Welch falling out of the sky in the town where that Armory contest in game was shown on a CURRENT video of this remake so she has to be playable though in Second Evolution she kind of sucked.
Octopath traveler really did have a huge impact on classic rpg style games that game walked so this could run it looks so damn gorgeous I would love to see chrono trigger in this artstyle

Star Ocean 2 is probably one of my favourites rpgs of all time. I cannot explain how happy this makes me, it has been more than 20 years that i've played it for the first time.
Dude, it's flat out the best RPG I've ever played. If it's your first time, please google how to unlock the Cave of Trials. It's one missable cutscene early in the game, but if you get it, you basically double the amount of content in the game. It's insane they hid it but whatever.
Seeing so many people like me who grew up with this game in their childhood brings me so much joy. Literally crying. They are giving me everything I wanted and more.

When the logo and name was leaked, I was 100% sure that, despite the changed name, it would just be the port of Second Evolution R with slightly more remastered graphics, artworks and cutscenes - just like with First Evolution R. Of course I would never say no to a Remake of one of my most favorite Games of all time. But I just didn't see it happening. So... You made someone really really happy today with this announcement! This will be a Day 1 purchase. Just waiting for the pre-orders of the physical version to pop up in my country. My brother, who also played the heck out of the PS1 Game back then, is also hyped for it! And I love the chosen style. If I want the old one, I can always get my PSP booted up again. Good job on that one SE! See you all in November. ♥
New music (thank you Sakuraba and band!), new portraits with animated dialogue, new environments, new voices, this is leagues above First Departure R! Also, this is the favorite game for a lot of Star Ocean fans! This exceeded my expectations after last week's leak.
This is looking lit! I think I recognize the voices from the PSP but I liked those. They were smart in reusing the old sprites, all the same. Nostalgia meets something new.
The craziest thing I noticed was that you can select the style of BGM and Voices, which means hopefully we could even put the music back to original along with original english voices or jp voices!!!!!
It looks amazing! God... Noel and Chisato are on the same team... does this mean that we can finally have all the heroes on the party at once? And it is clear that the balance has changed, mages will no longer be useless in the second half of the game.
IIRC, Noel and Chisato aren't mutually exclusive, you just need an open party slot by the time you recruit her. Still though, a reason to not run three melee and Rena is great, will actually get to use Leon and Celine more.

Square Enix - make sure you readd the crafting animations! Seeing new items go by when trying out new recipes is what makes it fun and strategic. The PSP port was trash

Its so funny because when I was a kid and I couldn't really imagine how nuts graphics would get, I always pictured that "in the future" this is more or less how those RPG's I loved would look. Im actually stoked to see these now haha
Missed out on the originals, have not played the first remaster yet. But this looks incredible especially those character portraits. Always heard the second seems to be considered the best by fans so will def have to pick this up and finally play a game in the series. Loving these old game remakes/remasters.

Interesting, they seem to have toned down spell animations significantly so as to not stop the flow of battle like in the original game, but personally, I prefer the original explosive spell animations even if it paused combat...yes, even after the umpteenth time in a row of Celine casting Eruption, or even more catastrophic-Explosion, whereas the entire battlefield would start warping due to the intensity of the spell. In any case, I don’t think the quirky yet fun spell combination mechanic has carried over from the original either. I’d be hella surprised if it did though!
@TripMX the game runs at 30fps on Switch, if the magick effects were like the original, it would tank the frame rate in combat and since this isn't turn based, frame rate needs to be a priority

I absolutely love how they kept the original asthetics intact meaning especially not that bright colors
They also got rid of the overly anime portraits from PSP and used something more in line with the rest of the game's graphics, which is amazing.

Fully agree. Octopath Traveler's success paved the way for its sequel, Triangle Strategy, Super Mario RPG and a rebirth of 2D3D HD games.

Hyped! My first Star Ocean was 3, but some things talked about in that game made more sense after playing 2. I loved both.

Its so funny because when I was a kid and I couldn't really imagine how nuts graphics would get, I always pictured that "in the future" this is more or less how those RPG's I loved would look. Im actually stoked to see these now haha

Missed out on the originals, have not played the first remaster yet. But this looks incredible especially those character portraits. Always heard the second seems to be considered the best by fans so will def have to pick this up and finally play a game in the series. Loving these old game remakes/remasters.

When Celine used Eruption, the combat didn't pause- that is a huge improvement if spells no longer stop combat
@@tuba7861 You’re right, I didn’t notice that until you pointed it out! Interesting, they seem to have toned down spell animations significantly so as to not stop the flow of battle like in the original game, but personally, I prefer the original explosive spell animations even if it paused combat...yes, even after the umpteenth time in a row of Celine casting Eruption, or even more catastrophic-Explosion, whereas the entire battlefield would start warping due to the intensity of the spell.
In any case, I don’t think the quirky yet fun spell combination mechanic has carried over from the original either. I’d be hella surprised if it did though!
@TripMX the game runs at 30fps on Switch, if the magick effects were like the original, it would tank the frame rate in combat and since this isn't turn based, frame rate needs to be a priority

Amazing! If I remember correctly, the original Star Ocean: Second Story on the PS1 was one of the first few action JRPGs I ever played.
This is a day-1. SO2❤🔥is the best game in the series and a gem in the PS1 crown. Guys, please, don't sleep on this one!🙏
